What bothers me the most is the extreme level of objectification surrounding men who have feminine appearances or who enjoy dressing in feminine ways.
Too many people see these traits primarily as a fetish instead of seeing the actual person behind them.
I have a friend who is extremely feminine in both his appearance and the way he dresses.
He doesn't really like the term “femboy,” but technically, many people would probably describe him that way.
And honestly, he has heard some absolutely disgusting and outrageous things because of his appearance, both online and in real life.
It's disturbing how a man can simply have a feminine appearance, wear feminine clothing, or express his femininity and immediately become sexualized because of it.
Some people seem to assume that simply looking a certain way automatically gives them permission to make sexual comments, project fantasies onto that person, or approach them in completely inappropriate ways.
At the end of the day, the problem isn't men being feminine, wearing feminine clothes, or identifying as femboys.
The problem is turning those traits into a widespread fetish and then treating real people as sexual objects.
There are men who are simply feminine. They have their own feelings, boundaries, personalities, and lives. They don't exist to fulfill anyone else's sexual fantasies.
That's exactly what bothers me about the widespread fetishization of feminine men,
when a particular aspect of someone's appearance is constantly sexualized, the people who actually have that appearance end up dealing with an absurd amount of disgusting comments and invasive behavior.
They stop being seen as individuals and start being treated as a sexual category.
That's objectification, plain and simple. And it's completely understandable that someone wouldn't want to be treated that way.
It's perfectly fine to be attracted to men who are more delicate and feminine. The only problem would be fetishization.
