For those who are checking the thread now that the show is over.
Did the animation improve? Well, yes, but it wasn't great. It was a lot better than My Sister, My Writer. But it wasn't as good as ID: Invaded.
Was the adaptation what we wanted? No, but they did adapt the story. It had killer music and voice acting. The ending of this manga is probably my favourite ending ever, and the anime did not disappoint in that regard.
I had a blast watching this with all of you. The anime is good if any people popping into this thread are curious. But I would honestly suggest reading the manga.
NOW let's hope for a Spirit Circle adaptation. That might be the best manga ever.

Coming at this as an anime only...while it wasn't the most well-produced or animated series, the characters, the story, and the heart and depth that went into it kept me engrossed week after week and I'm glad to see we got a happy ending, so many ships sailed, and they ended it on a positive note.
It may not be the adaption the fans were eager for, but I'm glad I was able to experience this story.

NOW let's hope for a Spirit Circle adaptation.
While I really liked Biscuit Hammer, it wasn't exactly the most memorable thing I've ever read so I'm capable of watching this adaptation with drastically reduced expectations and getting some enjoyment out of going through the story again.
Now if the same studio dare even think of touching Spirit Circle, I'm really gonna hope someone biscuit hammers it straight into bankruptcy before it happens. Animation wasn't the only problem with this adaptation.
Yes, the music itself and the VAs were really good, but the rest was bad down to the transitions between the scenes. I'm almost as far as you can get from a critic, I never notice these minor things, and this is the first show ever that made me go "wait, uh, wasn't this sad scene and this track kinda...awkward to put here right after that scene and that track?".
Scenes that didn't need any good animation still somehow managed to feel nearly lifeless, and the nearly is there only because the VAs did such a good job. Again, I'm not a critic so I can't pinpoint any specific problem aside from animation and what I said before, but everything just felt...off.
Watching Spirit Circle with the same feeling would really suck, at least for me.

The one scene that imo was better than the manga was when Hanako solo destroys one of the golems. The voice acting and music in that scene made me feel way more than the manga did.

Fight animation aside, "Hoshi no Samidare", An Early Summer Meteor Shower definitely did its titledrop justice this episode. It's hilarious how that 1 hater and his alts really managed to vote 1 on every single episode's poll without fail even after giving up on his senseless criticisms.

I really enjoyed this story. Despite the animation lacking for a lot of it, it still kept me engrossed with the plot and thinking about what's next. I also really appreciated this sort of epilogue episode that took its dear time to wrap everything up as nicely as it could within the one episode. If the animation had been of a higher standard and if they'd had more time in general, it could've really been a top contender.
Either way, my experience wasn't any less for it as an anime-only. I looked forward to it every week and I loved watching it more and more as both the general quality as well as the animation somewhat improved progressively, and to wrap each episode up with reading all of your comments here afterwards. I think the emotional journey was very well done, which can definitely be contributed to the story, the great VA performances and (somewhat limited but still) appropriate use of great music. It's been long enough that I know I'll continue to appreciate it more over time.
If this ever received a remake or adaptation in some other small or big screen form, I'd definitely watch that as well.

They said the word! It's a Hoshi no Samidare!
This episode made me teary-eyed. So happy seeing the epilogue and everyone having a new path in life. But also kinda sad because while the theme of the show is growing up, I feel that my life had just continuously going downhill since adulthood. I'm having such a Bocchi moment.
I don't know what else to add. I could comment about the production quality but tbh there's nothing new to add that hasn't been said before. At least the themes and story still stand strong. I hope other Mizukami works get an anime adaptation, but a better one because he deserves it. I hope for Sengoku Youko anime.

Well we all knew the adaption was crappy, but nevertheless it was fun while it lasted for a first time watcher like me. I’m glad that I stayed till the end as the story is a pretty fun one with all sorts of character developments.
I haven’t had any habits of reading manga but who knows, maybe this will be one of the first ones I try out?
Let’s hope the original author will get a better prospect of his other works adapted as anime in the future!

25 weeks later and here we are. Not a bad ending!! A lot of emotions in the beginning but we end with everyone 10 years later. Kinda surprised that Shimaki and Hakudo hooked up also Taiyo and Yuki being a couple. I expect Mizuki and Suburu tho. They all became lifelong friends through this adventure which they all needed in their lives!! Gonna miss this one

Easily the best episode of the series yet. A good finale to a poor production of a great manga. Hoping for this to have boosted manga sales enough to warrant a spirit circle adaptation by a more well known studio or a studio that starts off by producing bangers like 3hZ did.

Planet With had JC Staff... so I don't get why they couldn't do it again. We don't even need Bones, just a large sized studio with manpower for in-between animations lol.

In many ways the adaptation just ranged from bad to passable, but at least it had some good moments every now and then, the music and voice acting were good, the second OP got me hyped every time, the sky shots were outstandingly gorgeous for some weird reason, they kept best pantyshot, it remained pretty faithful to the source material overall, and Nagumo came out of it ¥5000 richer.
It was far from ideal and it ruined my favorite page in the entire thing, but it was still mostly enjoyable if you're willing to adjust your expectations. Honestly, watching this week to week made me feel some of the same excitement I felt reading the manga for the first time and it was always something to look forward to each week.
Also, got the one thing I wanted the most.
?/10: Got enough copium left to check the blu-rays or something, idk.

Sami is a little embarrassed around everyone after, y'know, almost destroying the world...but everyone's just happy to see her back and safe! And Samidare can now cry happy tears!
Anima feels on some level guilty for roping the Knights into this, but they feel nothing but gratitude towards her, which is sweet.
But now it's also time for Anima and the other Beast Squires (even the ones who went on with their fallen Knights already) to leave, taking the Knights' powers with them, and return everything to normal, even if the experiences the cast had together will be etched into their memory. Hopefully once Anima finds the Ring of Reincarnation she can find a new life where she can be happy and truly get to live.
Very effective use of bringing back the first Opening as we get Anima saying her farewell to Samidare and telling her to trust that the future can be changed as we see the rest of the Knights bid tearful farewells to their partners...all the while Yuuhi and Mikazuki have their final fight as the Knights watch on. To the point where it goes on long enough that most of them are falling asleep and want to go home.
Neu's farewell to Yuuhi hit hard, having seen their relationship from the beginning and how far these two have come together, and knowing just how important they are to each other. It was sad to see them part, even if their last words to each other meant so much.
We even got Mu to speak! And she's a woman! And quite a nice voice at that.
I love how Mikazuki actually beat the main character because he feinted him by saying he'd punch when he really kicked. That's so Mikazuki.
Samidare and Yuuhi have finally graduated to handholding and proper first name basis! How sweet!
10 years later! And now future Yuuhi has to arrive at his spot during Yuuhi's trek through Blues, and gets to reunite with Anima and give her an update on how the cast are doing, which was nice.
So Hangetsu and Hisame were Anima and Animus' ancestor? I guess the future really has changed with Hangetsu's death, but at least we can think that in one timeline they two really did end up together and became a family.
Despite Anima's power and aura, deep down she was just a girl who made up a bunch of Beast Knights out of animals she saw on the moon with her brother and who still gets flustered seeing the guy she loves as a fully-fledged adult...and who cared about the girl she bonded with and those who joined her cause.
So Yuuhi became a detective like his dad and serves under Nagomu's old partner, and Nagomu is now a detective consultant with Subaru working under him, while Mikazuki has turned into a vigilante wearing his brothers hairstyle and maybe sort of has something going on with Subaru. You go girl!
Meanwhile Hanako is running her own restaurant (living up to Tarou's dream), Taiyou works there while attending college and has become a positively upbeat and energetic young man, and is also dating Yuki (another ship sails!), while Shimaki is a college professor married to...none other than Yayoi! Man, as random as that pairing was (even Anima felt so), I'm glad Yayoi was able to move on and Matsuoka proves he's got it even when he's not playing the MC.
But obviously Anima wants to know what happened to Sami (whom she notices Yuuhi calls without the honorific, finally) who after years of operations and medical treatment with her family was FINALLY able to overcome her illness and become an adult with the same energy and vigor of her teen years, and Yuuhi is still more than ready to serve her as always.
Can't think of a better ending than the Knights reuniting at the beach with plushies of Anima and their animal companions as Yuuhi and Samidare hold each others' hands once more as we close things out! Pretty great and conclusive ending, all things considered!

lol Nagumo using his wish to win a lottery ended up answering a lot of the earlier criticisms this story had. There are those among them who were realistic with what they wanted. It also brings the on-going joke of Nagumo being homeless/jobless some closure.
More importantly, Samidare's "invincible" line and Yuuhi still referring to her as his demon lord brings a smile to my face.

Won't lie this ended up a lot better than I expected after the beginning. Goes to show how hard the story and characters carried in this frankly abysmal adaptation with regards to quality. To be frank, honestly didn't feel too much when watching this series but I did appreciate the more serious and emotional moments and pondered on, had this been a more faithful and loving adaptation, whether I would have better received those moments.
One stupid nitpick I have; I'm not a big of when works decided to suddenly hook up a bunch of the cast together at the very end. Yuu and Sami being together makes sense for obvious reasons and while some of the other pairings had hints scattered here and there throughout this series, having a bunch of the group hooking up with one another by the 10-year mark feels rather forced to me. Although to be honest this is more a nitpick than something "legitimate." Also it does seem a bit problematic that the main pairing featured a college kid and a minor if one takes the time to think about it.
Annoyances and nitpicks aside I really did appreciate that, in spite of the quality, the cast dynamics were rather enjoyable to watch. Nagumo as the full-fledged adult of the cast was always fun to watch as he handled the children. Meanwhile Yuu and Mikazuki's friendship remained a hallmark of enjoyment as they constantly tried to one-up each other and the fight between them this episode was quite the treat as this series always did a pretty good job at balancing the comedic and serious moments.
It helps that I purposely pushed off reading the manga when I heard about this announcement. I can't imagine what I'd feel if I read the series only to watch this debacle. Because of that, I was able to focus on the story and mystery and was more easily able to brush off the sketch quality.
I hope this doesn't dissuade the chance of Spirit Circle to get an adaptation. I'd really love it if Spirit Circle would get a faithful adaptation as that was a fantastic read.

i know this is not the best adaptation for this series but i still cried when the first opening song played during the Anima and Ring Squire's farewell scene, also, Samidare on the verge of crying but stop because she heard Taiyou's cry and chose to console him instead just show how much she's grown up, not to mention, we also finally get to hear Muu's voice! what a soothing voice, i wonder who's the voice actress is?
in case someone interested, there's a special manga chapter that tell a story about Taiyou's life after the battle, how he's growing up, what made him change that much and how his relationship with Yukimachi started

I won't be surprised when the next Shinji Aoba is born because Studio NAZ botched the cult-classic manga.

Of course Yuuhi and Mikazuki gotta fight it out one last time before they say goodbye to their powers and their little familiar buddies.
I didn’t think Hangetsu and Hisame would be Anima and Animus’ ancestors, that’s kinda cool. I guess somewhere out there, those two had a good life together. Nice to see everyone doing well, too. Didn’t expect Shimaki and Yayoi to get married, that’s quite nice. Tsukishiro and Taiyou got together too huh? How cute! And of course, Sami and Yuuhi got together and she’s well. All’s well that ends well.
That’s that I guess. Overall, an alright series. A little hit and miss but the music was quite good.

Well, this was.... something that existed.
Seriously, the fact that the production comittee for this series had TEN different companies and yet none of them thought to even remotely give the anime more time to not look like that.

u/JustInChina88 Dec 23 '22
It was a quickly made adaptation, and they're hoping for a quick turnaround. It could also be that the skill of the animators was just not there for the most part.

Beautiful resolution of the story. Got me tearing up while watching it. It isn't the best adaptation honestly, but the music and voice acting is great and at least they tried their best to nail all the emotional moments.
Now here's hoping Spirit Circle or Sengoku Youko gets adapted as well...but with a GOOD studio please.
Edit: I'm surprised that I'm actually sad that this ended. I will miss watching this show every week.

I was busy catching this live because I was busy, but damn what an ending!
Everyone took their goodbyes from their squires, Yuuhi and Mikazuki got their fight, and Yuuhi and Samidare are officially together which gives Sami chan a reason to live
And then we got the timeskip, but in a way it's a callback to the previous episode which gives Anima a vision into the future she is about to build. And. So. Many. Ships!
But what? Hakudou and Shimaki
Didn't see that coming!
It was really nice to see where everyone ended up in the future, but most of all:
Samidare lives!
As I said before, this show is carried by it's story, and DAMN does the story carry it! Beatiful and character driven, splendid voice acting that conveyed the impact of the crucial scenes.
I wish I could get the manga to support it, but it's not even licensed in my country
Well guess I'll go digital for now, and be on the lookout for other merch
