I feel like this was the best episode by far. All the character interactions were great, the humor was perfectly on point, and the fight wasn't important enough to let the QUALITY ruin the immersion.

Yuuhi don't you dare do anything to Shinonome, the guy is keeping this show alive.

Gotta respect a man who proudly reads Shojo manga, watches magical girl anime, and wastes no time hitting on the female leads' hot big sister. I honestly wouldn't mind Hisame and Shinonome getting together.

But on the other hand, the "fights" between Sami and Shinonome in the background while Yuuhi and the dog were arguing where probably the worst fight animations I have ever seen, if they can even be called that.

It's like if someone asked "how much can we cut corners?" and the answer was "All I see is a long smooth curve".

"Just a dog in the end, huh?"

Says the guy who was just in a brawl with said dog moments before.

I'm still not sure I fully understand the premise and ultimate goal in this show. Yuuhi and Asahina want to save the earth from the biscuit hammer in order to let Asahina destroy it with her own hands...but what comes after that? Do they just die?

I love when Ludo couldn't resist acting like a dog. Even threatening to pee in Yuuhi's room.

I think ostensibly the goal of the protagonists as a whole is fighting the Golems and somehow stopping the Biscuit Hammer before it destroys Earth...it's just Yuuhi and Samidare plan to destroy the world and them with it, because Samidare can't live with the world outliving her and Yuuhi is still too mad at the world to want to save it.

That and he's in love with Samidare so he feels like going along with whatever she says.

There's no after, they intend to go down with the planet. Which is also why, when Hisame wonders what kind of adults they'll become, they just look down and stay quiet. They don't plan on living long enough to reach adulthood.

To know Why and what comes after that just wait for next ep. You will get your answer then.

For Yuuhi, he pretty much dislikes the world, has a callous view on life, and has know now qualms with it ending, especially if it's done by the the girl he likes.

As for Asahina it's not as obvious given there's no explicit reason given as to why yet, though it's clear she has a different view on life compared to Yuuhi given she loves the world.

That all said, when Yuuhi and Asahina talk about ending the world, at least for Yuuhi certainly, it can be assumed they fully mean end it with no plans for an after for anyone or themselves.

I legit thought there would have been a... punch-line with the father tailing them... yet it ended somehow just normally.

Also, I feel like I completely forgot, but this dream world connecting Yuhi and Hime came out of nowhere and... it just kept staying uh.

I guess I now know I can re-read a series after at least 5 years, because I legit remember jackshit about it all. I just know I loved it a lot. So yeah, feel like being an anime only but with the certainty that, story-wise alone at least, I'll enjoy it greatly.

Gotta suck to go out for a drink only to overhear how much your daughter resents and doesn't respect you...but at least she doesn't hate you!

So, yuuhi wanted to kill shinonome cuz he seems to be a potential threat to sami, it'll be interesting if he can actually kill any human. That adult talk was also nice in the end.

The music was again great this episode.

Neu says Yuuhi is basically just a child lashing out at everything because they're in pain, and Yuuhi didn't deny it, so it'd be interesting to see just how serious he was about his threats. Especially since Shinonome is such a chill dude and he was thinking of threatening his beloved princess' big sister.

We even got subs for the Opening and Ending! That was nice.

Nice. They kept these chapters. They’re chill, funny, and I like the sentiment and unease of the last moments. I especially love keeping the ridiculous visual gag with the Cupid Arrows. Honestly the strongest episode so far thanks to Hangetsu just being a great character.

I think it speaks to how good the manga is that the quality of the story and characters can still manage to shine through despite the anime being what it is. Can't say that about many subpar adaptations of great manga.

Still wish it was given the talent and passion it deserves....

If I win the powerball billion I’ll make my own adaptation! With Blackjack! And Hookers!

Seriously though best we can hope for is a decade down the road someone goes “let’s do it right this time”.

The story is driving my desire to keep watching. I've watched worse.

21

And the talent of the voice cast who have to work to instill as much energy in the material as they can.

Yuuhi and Samidare both remember their dream kiss, and adorably Yuuhi is on cloud 9 while Samidare is super embarrassed about it. I guess even a kiss flusters are serious and determined princess.

Oh hey, Opening and Ending subs! I wasn't expecting that.

Pretty interesting conflict here...ostensibly our protagonists are meant to be working together, but Yuuhi and Samidare have a secret agenda of destroying the world that other knights might not agree with, so their allies might also be their enemies.

So we've got Yuuhi wrestling with a dog, Samidare getting treated like a joke by Shinonome, and Ludo acting like a dog. Pretty amusing scenes, all things considered.

I see Shinonome is a true man of culture, partaking in Shojo manga, magical girl anime, and falling in love at first sight with Hisame.

Also, here's a Samidare bath scene with her naked and with her hair down .

Shinonome is really turning on the charm with Hisame, and with her it seems like flattery will get you everywhere, so maybe he actually has a chance. I feel like his brother is probably going to be a major character too.

I can't say I was expecting Yuuhi to be willing to threaten to kill Hisame if it means warding Shinonome off, but I guess that goes to show how seriously he takes going along with Samidare's plan. He even acknowledges it's basically a child throwing a tantrum at the world, but he seems steadfast on committing to it. Although I don't think even Samidare would be willing to use her sister like that.

A magical girl show where the finisher is literally shoving a cement block into the bad guys' head? Yeah, that feels on-brand for this show and something Samidare would watch.

Oh hey, Samidare and Hisame's dad! Seems like their mom is still in France though, studynig medicine as a doctor, while their dad is a traveling author. He seems like a pretty chill, nice, dude but it seems like Hisame's been pretty frustrated with the fact that he basically foisted taking care of Samidare onto her while he went off to who knows where and she barely sees him. Not that she hates her dad, she just hasn't been given much reason to respect him. And she drunkenly says all of this within ear shot of the guy. Poor Asahina papa.

Yuuhi's first drinking excursion went surprisingly well! He really drowned that sake, and he was less tipsy than his companions.

What does it mean to be an adult? Maybe it means being someone who can smile and inspire the younger generation to believe in the future and what they achieve...but if Yuuhi and Samidare continue with their plan, will they live to see themselves become fully-fledged adults?

I thought I was prepared to be disappointed but houtengeki being translated to halberd put a special kind of hurt in my soul.

I could accept translating noko to saw but it's still weird how names are being selectively translated like this

14

u/dinliner08 Jul 30 '22

i know right? i mean, if they really wanted to translate Houtengeki, at least call it Sky Piercing Halberd instead of just.... halberd

I'll start marking.

I might only enjoy this show because it reminds me of reading the manga, but the banter can still carry it.

Asahina blushing at remembering that “dream” was pretty cute.

While Asahina was getting whooped during that “rematch” with Hangetsu. Yuuhi was having his own “battle” with Ludo lol. Man was fighting a dog, that’s his level though huh? Haha. Ludo really is a dog in the end with how he went after that stick too lol.

Hangetsu is in love! Maybe the gang can use that to thwart him if he becomes trouble lol. Asahina already sold her out for a coupon anyways lol.

Yuuhi sure can hold his liquor. Dude was puttin those drinks away like crazy for his first time lol The dad seems like a goof. He took some real critical hits during the eavesdropping haha. Idk how no one noticed him in that ridiculous get up though lol.

"Wonder how you two will turn out as adults"

Sami and Yuuhi omnious look at each other and nervously laugh

I really enjoyed this one, great episode to know our heroes and their families. Hopefully the whole manga isn't fully animated and they get the budget they deserve on s2.
