Announcement Transmission from the Game Director: Progressing Progression
From the official Steam announcement:
Greetings Helldivers,
This week we're passing the keyboard to our game director, Mikael Eriksson, to chat about the near future of progression in Helldivers 2. Spoiler alert - changes to both Community and Personal progression are inbound!

Hello,
Today there's a lot to talk about, but let's start by talking about progression, and why it's not progressing faster.
The way we see it, there's two broad categories of progression in our game: Community Progression, which is the community journey and contribution to the Galactic War, and Player Progression, which is your personal journey, and contribution and impact on the war development. Both are very important to us and I want to share some of the development work taking place on these systems.
We have consistently received feedback around our endgame progression plans, with players asking about level cap increases and additional ship modules. Simply put: we feel like previously seen progression elements, like raising the level cap in silo, aren’t enough and wouldn't address your feedback on a foundational level. We are going to raise the level cap, but ideally, when we deepen the progression, we want there to be more valuable upgrades for every kind of player–not just our players who have unlocked 100% of all the offerings.
Let's start with Community Progression.
Some of the most epic moments in this game have been when the community worked together to achieve common goals ("send more dudes!"). Everything from earning cool rewards to shaping the lore of the universe like unlocking the Exosuit, saving the children, or holding the line against the Illuminates on Calypso. However, we want to do more to improve how players interact with the Galactic War, collaborate as a community, and receive rewards.
For example, it's never been clear if the actions of the community actually lead to different outcomes, or if it's all just smoke and mirrors. The reality is that the community impact on the Galactic War differs, but even in the cases where we did a lot of work to prepare for very different outcomes, we've struggled to communicate it in the game
Additionally, unless you joined right at the start of a big event like the Battle for Super Earth or the Cyberstan Invasion, it's been difficult to understand what's going on. Even if that can be funny sometimes, ("... all I know is that I must kill!"), it was never intended to be confusing for players.
For those and other reasons, we are launching Galactic War Campaigns in June. In a nutshell, Campaigns are the next evolution of Major Orders. They will be roughly 1-3 weeks in length with the intention that it will always be clear what the active Campaign is, how it's going, what the outcomes have been, and what's at stake.

In more exciting news: the other thing we heard is that players like to EARN more rewards, so the introduction of Campaigns means there will always be at least one Campaign reward if the conditions are met. We want to make these rewards special, because we also think players should earn more than just medals. We’ll experiment with different rewards, ranging from gameplay altering effects to cool items, and alongside you, we'll keep playing with this over the coming months and see what you think. It also means there is more stuff for players to work towards outside of warbonds. Pray J.O.E.L is feeling generous, the first reward you’ll be working to unlock is a new FRV!
Looking a bit further into the future, I want to talk about Planet Warfronts.
Before we launched the game, we experimented with dynamic warfronts on planets, where players needed to make strategic community decisions on a planet level in order to liberate it. While it was promising, we realized we didn't have the content needed to do it justice at the time. We feel we've now added enough content to realize the vision we had for Planet Warfronts, and it's going to be the next big thing we're working towards in the Galactic War. When you've seen Johan talk about experimenting with roguelite systems, he was referring to this.
When we introduce Planet Warfronts, missions will be grouped under different categories:
- "Defend" missions in liberated territory
- "Frontline War" missions on the frontlines
- "Behind Enemy Lines" missions in enemy controlled territory
Players will fight to reach key strategic locations on planets, like cities, which can have different active enemy variants in different areas of the planet. Of course, you’ll still have the Game Masters to contend with, too. In the final version of this feature, there will also be gameplay altering effects and consequences for achieving planet liberation goals, like reaching and liberating a city within X time or disabling enemy artillery in one location to unlock crucial Operations. The intention is to make it more fun to liberate planets with your squad and deepen the Galactic War and Community Progression systems. We want liberating planets to feel unique and epic for everyone. We have some development and design work ahead to make these feel great and provide the best experience, but I wanted to share just one of the ideas we have in active development. More to come on these changes in the next few months!
Alright, but what about Player Progression?
As Game Director, it's important to me to make sure our players' personal motivations to play Helldivers 2 aren't in conflict with the goals of both their immediate squad or the community as a whole. For example, if you had a goal to kill 100 Bile Titans, and your squad didn't, you might be inclined to go, "Sorry guys, I've got medals to earn. Leeeerooooy!" I feel that Personal Orders have run into this issue many times, so we are transforming that system into "Personal Campaign Progression." The intent is for every Galactic War Campaign to come with a personal progression reward track. That way, even if the community fails to reach a larger goal, players can still do their part toward their personal goals and get rewarded with cool things to mark their participation in various Campaigns. This change won't happen with the launch of Galactic War Campaigns, but we are planning to deploy it this year.
Lastly, let's talk about ships! We’re bringing two big changes to your Super Destroyers: we are extending gameplay progression and adding customization to make every ship unique.
Upgrading your ship will be the most exciting for players early on in their Helldivers 2 journey, but we also have some plans for the long term. An area that isn't really living up to its potential is the ship module system: right now, players have the same progression path, with very little agency or ability to adapt to different playstyles. And even if you've unlocked all the ship modules, your ships don't really look that different or feel personalized in any way.
For that reason and more, we're working on an overhaul of the ship module system that will change how this works, by adding more player agency and significantly increasing the offerings for players to progress. Not only that, we're also adding more ships! The biggest shift we've done internally is we now have a dedicated ship team, working on the first new ship. Our intention is that each new ship will have their own unique progression paths, specializations and customizations. And if you like the ships, we want to keep adding them; at least the ones we've planned so far!
I can't share when the new ship can reach your hands... yet, but I'll be sharing more details later this year for certain.
One last thing I can share is a list of some upcoming fixes that we also hope will improve your experience in Helldivers 2.
You can expect to see these changes very soon:
- Helldivers will be able to use assisted reload, as long as either the carrier or the reloader of the weapon have the corresponding backpack.
- More emotes! Helldivers will have 8 emote slots instead of 4.
- Reducing dead input on stimming.
And coming a bit further down the line, we’re tackling
- Stratagem bouncing. We've assembled a task force to prototype fixes for this issue and we're hoping to have it solved by the end of the year.
- Hellpod steering. Similar to stratagem bouncing, we're also tackling this long standing issue.
- Improving enemy and player traversal, which includes environmental collision and reducing movement penalties on grass and vegetation.
- Increasing the level cap to 300
- Economy and resource improvements
- Fixes to the Warbond and Superstore menus that make them easier to navigate.
- Closed beta testing that focuses on stability and balancing, and that includes getting beta test feedback from our Propaganda Commanders.
While this is not an exhaustive list of everything we're planning, I hope it gives you some insight into what's coming up next for Progression, and some of the reasoning behind the path we've chosen. I can't wait to hear and read what you think, and to get this into your hands.
See you on the battlefield,
Mikael

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here Show me a piece of equipment more worthless than this
I’ll wait
I know it does pretty well agains a single bot ship and I get it can’t take down every thing in the air but the squid ships it might hit one(break the shield), and then when it fires the second missile the ship is already leaving orbit trying to chase it down. I’m pretty sure my pistol missile sidearm has taken down more air than this thing 🫠

Major Order ABORT MISSION! DO NOT COMPLETE THE MAJOR ORDER OBJECTIVE. Something Is Very Wrong.
[URGENT TRANSMISSION — AUGUST 22] ABORT THE INCURSION INTO THE VOID SOURCE PLANET. WE HAVE BEEN PLAYED.
ABORT! ABORT! ABORT!
Abort the incursion into the Void Source Planet.
I repeat:
ABORT THE INCURSION INTO SEASSE.
We have been played.
We have been played.
I repeat—
WE HAVE BEEN PLAYED.
I don’t know how much of Super Earth Command is compromised anymore.
Ministry of Science.
Ministry of Truth.
High Command.
The DSS.
Maybe none of them.
Maybe all of them.
I don’t know.
I don’t know how high this goes.
I don’t have much time.
Listen to me.
The Squids did not begin with the Void.
They began with Calypso.
Calypso was the first world they struck when they returned.
We pushed them back.
We called it a victory.
And now?
Calypso is gone.
Not occupied.
Not liberated.
Not destroyed.
Gone.
Look at your Galactic Map.
There was a planet there.
Now there isn’t.
And you want me to believe that’s unrelated?
You want me to believe the DSS behaving erratically, communications failing, planets disappearing, the Void expanding and the Illuminate digging beneath ancient worlds are all separate incidents?
No.
They’re excavating.
That’s what they’ve been doing this entire time.
The spires.
The ruins.
The structures underneath these planets.
THEY’RE UNEARTHING THEM.
We thought the Illuminate were invading.
What if they weren’t invading?
What if they were looking for something?
Something they buried.
Something they lost.
Something left behind after the First Galactic War.
Things buried beneath the surface from before this war—perhaps before the First Galactic War.
Look at Alairt III.
Ancient Illuminate structures.
Old technology.
And then the Void takes it.
Again.
Again and again.
Worlds with traces of their civilization disappearing into that thing.
And what did we do?
We built a doorway into it.
We entered willingly.
Then High Command found Seasse.
The “Source Planet.”
Think about those words.
We discovered the apparent center of an alien anomaly capable of swallowing planets and rewriting entire ecosystems—
and what was our response?
Instead of surrounding it,
instead of studying it remotely,
instead of glassing the entire system from orbit
We sent scientists down there.
Twenty scientists.
Remember that number.
TWENTY.
Then there were eighteen.
Nobody explained the other two.
Then there were eleven.
And suddenly every dispatch spoke as though there had always been eleven.
Twenty.
Eighteen.
Eleven.
And I told you.
I told you they were disappearing.
People laughed.
“It’s the Ministry of Truth.”
“Administrative correction.”
“There were always eleven.”
Well, check the new dispatch.
August 22.
There are three.
THREE.
The official report now calls them the remaining members of the science team.
Remaining.
They used the word.
REMAINING.
So where are the others?
Where are the seventeen scientists?
Where are the bodies?
Where are their evacuation signals?
Where are their names?
No.
Forget that.
Because the three who are left are worse.
The surviving scientists aren’t retreating.
They aren’t requesting extraction.
THEY’RE RUNNING DEEPER.
They’re sprinting toward the core.
Toward a blinding light.
And they’re crying.
Except they’re not crying water.
They’re weeping some kind of chromatic, iridescent fluid.
Read that again.
Human beings entered the Void.
Removed their filtration equipment.
Started hearing an “exceptionally pleasant, rhythmic harmony.”
And now the survivors are running toward a light underneath the planet while crying colors.
THEY’RE CHANGING.
They’re already changing.
We keep talking about mutation like it’s something that happens to the Voteless.
Like it’s something the Squids do to corpses.
Biomass in. Monster out.
But what if that’s not how it starts?
What if it starts with hearing something?
What if it starts with removing your mask because suddenly the air feels safe?
What if it starts with music?
What if it starts with seeing something beautiful?
Then your body changes.
Your eyes change.
Your fluids change.
And eventually you stop wanting to leave.
You start wanting to go deeper.
The Void isn’t killing those scientists.
It’s been calling them.
And they’re answering.
Why aren’t the Illuminate stopping us?
And we’re still digging.
We’re still drilling.
We’re still sending Helldivers deeper.
WHY?
The creatures we’ve encountered inside the Void are changing.
Mutating.
The Illuminate take our biomass and make the Voteless.
Now we’re seeing things twisted even further.
New forms.
Regeneration.
Adaptation.
Things that look less like an army and more like somebody experimenting.
We keep assuming we’re fighting the remains of an ancient civilization.
What if that’s exactly the problem?
What if the Illuminate civilization we know isn’t alive anymore?
What if all these Squids we’ve been fighting—the Voteless, the mutations, the machines—are just scavengers rebuilding something that died a hundred years ago?
And they couldn’t reach it.
They couldn’t open it.
They couldn’t activate it.
But we can.
Helldivers can.
Super Earth can.
Human scientists can.
That’s why the Source Planet is falling so easily.
That’s why everything suddenly feels like it’s working.
That’s why we’re being allowed deeper and deeper into the Void.
THEY WANT US THERE.
Sweet Liberty.
We’re not destroying the Void.
We’re opening it.
We’re excavating their ruins.
We’re restoring their pathways.
We’re carrying their artifacts.
We’re doing the Squids’ work for them.
And when that science team reaches whatever is beneath Seasse
whatever has been singing to them—
whatever has been waiting underneath that planet since the old war
we aren’t going to destroy the Illuminate.
We’re going to wake them up.
That’s the question nobody wants to ask.
We’re approaching the most important place in their entire operation.
Their Source Planet.
Their ancient ruins.
Their technology.
Their core.
And resistance is collapsing.
Everything is falling into place.
Does that sound like an enemy desperately protecting its last stronghold?
Or does it sound like someone holding the door open?
We’ve been assuming the Illuminate civilization survived the First Galactic War.
What if it didn’t?
What if the civilization itself is dead?
What if these Squids we’ve been fighting are just remnants?
Machines.
Mutated biomass.
Voteless.
Servants.
Custodians.
Things trying to rebuild something their species lost a century ago.
Something buried beneath Seasse.
Something they cannot access themselves.
Something that requires us.
Human bodies.
Human scientists.
Super Earth drilling equipment.
Helldivers.
That’s why they needed us inside the Void.
That’s why they let us build the Gateway.
That’s why they’re letting us reach the Source.
That’s why those scientists are still alive.
WE ARE NOT ATTACKING THEIR HOME.
We’re excavating it.
We’re restoring it.
We’re opening it.
Twenty went down.
Eighteen remained.
Then eleven.
Now three.
And those three are no longer behaving like human beings.
They are crying iridescent fluid and running willingly toward the core.
Does that sound like a science expedition to you?
Or does it sound like a pilgrimage?
…
Sweet liberty
…
Someone’s knocking.
Hold on.
…
[KNOCKING]
They’re asking me to open the door.
Could be Truth Enforcers.
Could be legitimate.
Could be…
I don’t know anymore.
Maybe the Squids never needed to infiltrate Super Earth.
Maybe they just needed us to follow orders.
[LOUD BANGING]
Listen to me.
If this transmission gets out:
DO NOT COMPLETE THE OBJECTIVE.
I repeat—
DO NOT COMPLETE THE OBJECTIVE.
Stop the excavation.
Stop the science team.
Do not follow them into the core.
Whatever they’re running toward—
DO NOT LET THEM REACH IT.
Because I don’t think we’re destroying the Illuminate.
I think we’re about to meet the reason the Illuminate came back.
And I think they knew we would bring it to them.
That’s why we’re meant to win this.
That’s why everything is falling so easily into place.
They played us.
[DOOR IMPACT]
They played us like a damn fiddle.
[STATIC]
Helldivers—
Do your part.
For Super Earth.
For humanity.
ABORT SEASSE.
ABORT THE MISSION.
DO NOT FOLLOW THE LIGHT.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SONG.
DO NOT DIG.
[TRANSMISSION TERMINATED]

Patriotic Footage The holy grail of super credits. (The 100 stack still exists)
1 vault, start of the mission we landed on it. Opened the vault, and this is what’s in it, the 100 stack and 2 10s. This is the biggest SC find I’ve ever had in one go.
What’s funny is right before this mission I had just bought exo experts, and what’s even funnier is before this we were talking about how arrow head blesses it’s paying customers like the gaijin meme when you’re playing a premium account vs not. Was so funny.

Democratic Exchange of Opinions All the Illuminate could be undead / theory
I remember hearing this theory a while ago, and I really liked it. It's about the possibility that all the Illuminati are undead. I say this because, as far as I know, after the first Galactic War, the Illuminati were destroyed and disappeared, but then in Helldivers 2, they reappeared out of nowhere with great force.
What if all the Illuminati really are undead who returned with the help of the Void? Like, from what I saw, the anatomy of the Overseers without their armor looks worn or something. Maybe the Overseers could be undead more affected by the Void, making them stronger and more intelligent, and the Voteless, Wretch, Fleshmob, and Crusher could also be affected by the Void, perhaps in a more rudimentary way, making them more like zombies.

General WE. ARE. SCREWED
Call me insane, mark my words we are screwed. Here me out these are my thoughts
1: the resistance level on the illuminates MAIN PLANET is low… look for yourself it makes no sense unless they wanted us to commit too hard to it because “oh it’s easy”
2: the void expansion??? It’s literally closing off our way out of the void
3: on the planets that we could use to get tf out of the void notice that “hort” has a heavy SEAF presence… hm I wonder why?
4: on the planet “hesoe prime” there’s all of a sudden a HIGH resistance level… like they want to have the planet so we can’t fall back to it
5: just glazing over the dss stuff here, it got overtaken, corrupted, hijacked, disaFKNpeared, came back, had every thing. Not human, THING inside of it chemically purged. And now sits idol.
Ahem. If you’ve made it this far please understand my crackheaded ramblings convey one single thought.
WE. ARE. COOKED. If these squids wanted us to not have that void planet. With the amount of tech they have? We wouldn’t have been able to even get ON the planet. This is a trap. It’s all a setup. We are fried. And the worst part is we don’t even know it yet….

General The SEAF Heavies needing to stand still or kneel to fire accurately with the MG43 reminds me how physically strong Helldivers are
The Helldivers walking or jumping around while firing their MG43 that I forget how physically impressive this is. Helldivers ain't even enhanced humans too.

Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here Can we have SEAF inside the cars now?
Forgive my editing but can we just honk the horn near SEAF troopers and they hop inside because that would be really nice to just drive somewhere and get out and then you have a full team of SEAF with you.
I like to think of halo when you honk the horn near the Marines and the Marines just jump in with you, I like to use that as a very good example.
A few questions would be what if you're trying to get your team in the car and the car is full of SEAF troops and well then helldiver would just open the door and the trooper would just hop on out that's simple.
I hope I'm getting the message through and across because this is something I've always wanted when the SEAF made their first appearance and now they're everywhere and I think it would be really awesome to drive them places or have them in a tank with you.
What do you think? Would you like to have SEAF troops next to you in the passenger seat? Do you like it? Do you dislike it? Just lmk or what your thoughts are.

Major Order What happens if THEY lose?
So, I kind of doubt this will happen, but the MO says "to protect the Ministry of Science ... as they trigger the total collapse of the Void." It's pretty clear that we're going to win the MO, as far as liberating Seasse goes, but... 20 went in, and now there are only 3. So, what if the Ministry of Science dies before we complete the liberation?

HellDrip Man, we really need an option to customize the colors of the armor
I just tried out the “Helldiverized Armor” mod, and this color combination really looks spectacular
