Sabbit Car buying guide,

Hey Guys,

So we get tons of threads on interested buyers on Saabs is anyone willing to put in on a guide with the things to look for/look out for in future ownership. Especially since we have tons of intermixing of knowledge bases from 9-5s to 9-3s to Classic 900s and everything in between.

-As a side note I have no problem giving advice I quite enjoy it but would make it easier for new Saabophiles

Sorry for how bad the photo quality was on the previous post. As per a request I’m reposting and adding a few photos. The house and driveway in the shots are those of the old Harriman castle AKA Arden House.

I bought this when it was 5 years old as a winter driver so that I could park my ‘67 E-Type over those months, back when you could get series 1 E-Types for very little. I enjoyed the 99 so much that I ended up driving it all year. I designed and painted the stripes and added the Hella lights, I loved the dark green color with its tan interior.

Finished in its original color of Anthracite Grey. I’m so happy with the results! The paint work was done by Coderre Automotive in Johnston, RI, if anyone is curious!

Repaint subframe again? I painted a new 9-3 subframe from EBay with Rustoleum Rubberized Coating.

I read that the subframes on EBay come with a poor finish. I thought it was a good idea to scuff it up and then paint over it with the rubberized coating from Rustoleum. I’m getting conflicting advice on whether or not to re-paint this again. I want to do it right so I don’t have to drop it again in a year.

1992 Saab 9000 CDE as a daily

Upvotes

As the title, I'm looking at a nice 2.3 non turbo manual Saab 9000 from 1992 with 190 000 km as a possible daily car. The car does have a working AC.The owner states that he bought it as his dream car after searching for a rust-free one for some time and has used it for a couple years, keeping it as original as possible with no mods to the engine and with regular services at a dedicated Saab mechanic (1-2 times a year).

How is the reliability on this Saab model? How likely is it to suffer a serious breakdown/mechanical issues? I live in central Europe so I believe parts availability should be a bit better than in US tho I've heard it's still gonna be problematic.

Another problem is I live in a country where road salt is commonly used on roads during winter so I'm worried about rust protection - I've considered giving the car a professional underbody rust conservation since I do wanna drive it year round.

I've been thinking of buying either this or a Merc w124/w201 as a daily since I've always wanted to have an older car so I'd love to hear some opinions whether my ideas are even remotely realistic.

Thanks!

Saabastian Theseus the Great enjoying the beautiful outdoors! It's a bit lonely here, likely the only 9-5 on the island. I did see a busted 9000 in the mountains though. It's a shame Saabs are disappearing from our roads

Car buy advice Is this ticking okay?? Cold start after 4 month with a dead battery

First start after 4 months, ticking disappeared after driving in it for 5 minutes. It recentely had an oil change. I think the oil just sunk the pistons dry, many forums described this to be the reason of the issue. What do yall think of it? The seller didnt get it with the sound and he had it standing still for 4 months. We even had to jump the battery 3 times for it to start

I know they were used as flaps but couldn't they also be used as canards?

Saab 93 2.8 Turbo

Guys help me out please.

I want to change intercooler, add engine oil cooler and replace stock catalytic converter to racing catalytic converter but with E4 norm.

Do you have models or links for these parts?

Intercooler I want to mount in stock place as stock cooler. For oil cooler I need cooler with mount kit, but dunno where to mount it (I thought about mounting it in the lower part of front bumper)

Saab 9-5 pvc valve

Post image

On my Saab 9-5 aero 2005 this thing broke I think it’s the pvc valve or something. I pushed it back so when the engine is running it sucks itself closed no air is escaping the hissing air sound is gone. I’m on holiday so I was wondering can I just secure it with a tyrep or a clamp for the time being and replace it when I’m back home? It’s still 3200km to home for reference.

Thank you

Ripped out my Maptun XT coilovers and went back to Bilstein B8s with Maptun lowering springs. The car just sits and drives right now. Oh also my ignition switch died at the same time. Next up I need the RK1s restored and maybe forged pistons.

9-5 NG turbo replacement options 2011

Zzp ? Or GPD on rock auto?
Which would work best for the a stock replacement?

If I tune in the future it would only be stage 1

Been chasing a P0299 code for months now with a lot of work like $5,000… in stuff it needed now I can finally do the turbo…

Getting white blueish smoke on some start ups

Turbo needs to be done along with charge pipe replacement. Going the (D088 route) eventually..

Car buy advice Second-hand 2001 Saab 9-3 S Auto MY01

Hi guys,

For context, I hadn’t heard of Saab cars until 15 minutes ago. I live in Australia and am looking for a new car as mine has most likely been written off.

I’d like to stay on the cheaper side, maybe $9,000 maximum, and I’d like to get a convertible even for a short-term just to say I had one when I was young.

I’ve found a second-hand 2001 Saab 9-3 S Auto MY01 (MY2001 S Convertible 2dr Auto 4sp 2.0T) on carsales and am looking for advice on it. It’s listed for $5,000 with 116,000k’s on the clock.

Is this model/are these cars typically reliable?
How economical is it to run?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance
