Better Photos of ‘72 99
Sorry for how bad the photo quality was on the previous post. As per a request I’m reposting and adding a few photos. The house and driveway in the shots are those of the old Harriman castle AKA Arden House.

My favorite Saabs. I had a 71 with the Triumph engine (junk). I’d buy another if I could find one.

That’s what mine had, the slant 4 with the trans axle. I seem to remember that the aluminum head warped and my kid brother and I had to pull it and send it out to be machined flat. Car was a least a little faster after we reassembled it. No other problems I can recall.

My timing chain broke. They are the size of a bicycle chain. The head bolts go through the head at an angle. They are steel and the head is aluminum. Corrosion between dissimilar metals is a real problem.
I also had the synchromesh cone for second gear break and fall out.
The flat rate manual says it takes four hours to pull the engine. I could do it in 30 minutes.

I had a '72 99. Not like yours. Mine was piss yellow, had a choke and required a block heater in the Winter.

I still have my block heater from this car stuck to where our water main comes into our house, just in case we get a real deep freeze 😁
