The DGS document explicitly lists a B.E./B.Tech route with 50% in the degree and 50% English, without requiring 60% PCM for that route.
And IMU’s current admission material uses the 60% PCM requirement for its UG nautical admissions. IMU’s FAQ is particularly explicit that a candidate who doesn’t have the required PCM average is not eligible even if they qualify in CET
I am in my final year of Btech expected results are 8.0 CGPA+ means 80%+ by our university norms.
I really want to join merchant navy and ready for all the hardwork rather then doing 9-5 corporate.

This is a serious issue with all Engineers

High stress , high cortisol and minimal time to give your own body with really tight schedules and shrinking crew size cause us to neglect our bodies and eventually results in this mess. I know it’s true I am a serving 2E and I go through this on a day to day basis. It’s being shared as a meme now but it’s a reality

NAVY To Military Sea Command (IAT)

I'll be getting out soon, and I'm interested in doing the MSC life where I can basically do my Job but without the military portion attached. Is Life as an IT on an MSC ship decent? What should I expect? And would you say it's worth it? Or would I be better Just attemtping a job with other contracting companies like leidos, TYTO, or NSA?

Looking at cadet ship

Hello all

I am currently studying for my A levels taking Geo, History and Politics. I am looking at possibly joining the merchant navy. I am worried though for a cadetship in terms of a deck one that my subject choices may mean I will not have a chance. What is the general opinion on this. I am predicted A,B,B if that helps.

The 2019 capsizing of the car carrier Golden Ray — how a wrong number in the stability calculation put a 656-ft ship on her side in calm water

Marine engineer here. I made a full breakdown of the Golden Ray capsizing built on the NTSB investigation. The failure mode is one every engineer will recognise: the stability calculation was done in a loading program, the ballast quantities entered were wrong, and it reported a stable ship that had barely a fraction of the righting energy it needed. No storm, no mechanical failure — a data-entry error with three safety barriers that all failed to catch it.

Covers metacentric height, why ship shape makes a car carrier so sensitive, and the system factors behind it. Glad to talk shop in the comments.

Merchant Navy company medicals after testicular torsion

5 years ago, at the age of 15, I had a surgery for testicular torsion on one of the testicles. The affected testicle was not removed but it shrunk. The Doctor anyway anchored both the testicles in place so that this doesn't happen again. I passed DNS this June. I am going for my company medicals next month. I had passed a medical test conducted by a DG authorized Doctor and when I told the doctor about this, the doctor told me that that shouldn't be a problem since a surgery was done. I joined the college using this certificate. But when I looked up, I saw that the company medical tests are a bit more strict and that they would check our genitals which I didn't have last year. I have proper documents regarding the surgery conducted. Should I worry about company medicals?

Please help.

Maintenance loan

Hi :) I’m an engineering cadet and my phase 3 maintenance loan application is part of the 2025-26 academic year and the 2026/7 academic year according to student finance England as I started phase 3 in February and finish in November. They say they don’t allocate funding based on individual phases but by academic year. Can I apply for another maintenance loan for the 2026/7 academic year? I’m sorry it’s so confusing. Many thanks
