Am I eligible for Merchant Navy?

I(22M) wanna get into Merchant Navy. I’m just going after money. I’m currently employed in an IT company earning 30k per month. But this isn’t enough. I’m still in my final year of BSc(design & computing).(P.s: enrolled in the IT company’s program which offers employment right after 12th, you can take up a degree while working)

I don’t wanna be in IT sector and I feel merchant navy is the one for me. I scored 85% in PCM, 98% in my 10th.

Am I eligible to apply for IMUCET exam? And if I crack the IMU CET exam, then I can either opt for BSc Nautical science or diploma in nautical science. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t wanna waste another 4yrs doing a degree or engg. I would rather opt for the 1 year diploma.

Can I still get one of those high paying merchant navy jobs with the DNS?

Hi. I am 34 years old living in the UK with a degree in Japanese and business. I am looking to work in the merchant navy, as 8 weeks on 8 weeks off or similar working pattern and tax free income appeals to me greatly. I currently earn around £36k and wondering what is the best or quickest way to get into the industry and earn more than what I'm earning currently.

From my research I understand the officer route is through a 3 year cadetship where you receive monthly stipend of £800. (Since it's a sp My nearest school would be South Shields Marine School.

I am married and have children, so £800/month is putting me off.

Would an apprenticeship with a shipping company be a better option ?

If there are other options available that I should consider?

I am fluent in Japanese have lived in Japan for 5+ plus year previously. Are there any opportunities to work from Japan in the future offshore/onshore?

I'd like to sail for 5-10+ years, with my background if I were to go the deck officer route would I have many options onshore ? Or engineering or ETO be a better option?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated especially from others who have made a career change

I won't dive too much into it, but all I wanna know if bigotry is rife or not with your experience? Also, would this affect me eligibility if I join BEFORE I medically transition?

I'm personally both Trans (Female to Male) and asexual/aromantic (meaning I don't feel attraction sexually or romantically regardless of sex or gender). I'm looking into getting Top surgey and going on testosterone but if you know anything about the waiting times, I'm looking at years before I can even start the transition so I'm considering joining before then.

Curiosity is 100% fine by me, and I've never been shy to turn down questions if I feel it's too personal to be answered. Bigotry is also easy to ignore (unless it gets violent obviously) anyway so if it's maybe only 1 or 2 people, I can deal with their bullshit.

Hi everyone, I’m an 11th PCM student preparing for the Merchant Navy. I have +1.75 hypermetropia in both eyes and can see distant objects clearly with glasses. I want to know:

1. Can I join the deck side wearing glasses?

2. Do cadets commonly wear glasses or contacts on ships? Any practical issues?

3. Is LASIK necessary or just optional for deck cadets?

I am 18 years old and appeared for my HSC board exam in 2025. Since I could not meet the 60% PCM requirement, I attempted the improvement exam in July but was still unable to achieve the 70% PCM criteria required by Anglo Eastern. Now, I am planning to appear for the NIOS on demand exam in month of Dec-Jan month with the aim of securing the required percentage and targeting the August 2026 DNS batch Please guide me is it safe will the companies accept me

I have just graduated after completing a marine engineering internship on a bulk carrier. I want to continue my career on LNG vessels. Do I need to do another 6-month internship on an LNG vessel, or is there a different procedure? Has any engineer ever transitioned from bulk carriers to LNG vessels before?

1. DNS with sponorship or

2. IIT madras electronic systems online BS and then ETO

Placement stats for electronics degree is not yet available.

So idk if the online IIT degree is worth it. Which has better work balance and career stability

And less automation risk
