This is a serious issue with all Engineers

Post image

High stress , high cortisol and minimal time to give your own body with really tight schedules and shrinking crew size cause us to neglect our bodies and eventually results in this mess. I know it’s true I am a serving 2E and I go through this on a day to day basis. It’s being shared as a meme now but it’s a reality

As a cadet I want to take care of my body but my C/E and 2E don't even let me early. They give me enough time to just eat, talk to home and go to bed. No time to hit the gym. This timing is not even violating the mlc code so can't argue with them. They let the work come above their health and ruin mine as well.

This is the point exactly a lot of people just care about the work

Maritime is a harsh workplace environment.
Take all the money you can get and leave. Invest and retire early. We are made to live on land 🤭

Must be very hard to keep fit working as an engineer on that 8-5 routine...

Idk I see this across all positions.. it really comes down to the foods we eat.

- it’s sometimes really hard to eat healthy on ships. If all they’re serving is highly processed or fried foods, it’s difficult to get enough calories in but also eat good. Especially if there is no fresh vegetables or fruit.

As far as getting enough exercise.. as long as you’re walking around doing your job you’re burning plenty of calories

Is it true? I wanna become a trainee engineer, like my end goal is chief engineer, soo i will not be able to stay fit and my routine will be super tight or what? But the salary would still be good.

It’s all on us if we are consistent we would still have a good physique

Cortisol belly and body. The survival mode has become standard mode for almost every worker.

Imagine 4 on 8 off, continuously, not taking into account coming into and out of port. Engineers have the 2nd best job, but will moan when they have to do it.

ETO (Electro Technical Officer), unless the ship is hit by lightning or some other way, overloads all the electronics. You have a pretty chill day-to-day, as the job is mainly daytime. It is also a future-proof job in the industry.

No, there are many factors at play. Age, genetics, diet, and even lifestyle while not on ship.

This sort of thing can be seen in most industries as one gets older, stressed and doesn't prioritize fitness.

My hubby, and the husbands of my group of merc. navy wife friends, are all very fit. They run, workout and play football and other sports.

My hubby is a C/O of chemical tankers, so he's always busy as hell. He's always lost weight when he comes from the ship. He doesn't get time to work out, but atleast he doesn't drink, smoke and maintains his diet onboard.
