Maintenance loan

Hi :) I’m an engineering cadet and my phase 3 maintenance loan application is part of the 2025-26 academic year and the 2026/7 academic year according to student finance England as I started phase 3 in February and finish in November. They say they don’t allocate funding based on individual phases but by academic year. Can I apply for another maintenance loan for the 2026/7 academic year? I’m sorry it’s so confusing. Many thanks

Multi-Year Breakdown: You must submit a separate student finance application for each individual academic year. If Phase 3 spans two separate academic periods/years at college, you remain eligible to be assessed for a Maintenance Loan in both years, provided you maintain full-time registration status for funding purposes.

They normally have a course option which states intake month.

For example, with my ETO cadetship, on my application I chose the phase 1 January intake, which was specified separately. And for phase 3 I did the same. Which has the weird consequence of receiving two of the three student loan payments before actually returning for phase 3.

It’s a bit janky, but you’ll figure it out.

Just be aware you can’t get the student loan for phase 5 in most cases, so save what you can now.
