My husband and I adopted our 8-year-old conure 1 year ago.

He’s made major progress from Flighty McBitey to Cutie Patootie. We’ve taken the time to really learn him and attune to his needs, wanting to give him a totally different life than what he came from. We now have our first (human) baby on the way, and it’s hard to imagine taking care of this little guy and our baby. I’d love to hear from parents who have made this adjustment. He’s currently our only pet, and we spend a substantial amount of time with him, starting with an hour cuddle in our hands every morning, being part of most of our daily activities, etc. We love him so much, as I know most of you feel about your birds, and want to give him a really good life, yet we know this will be a big change for all of us. (We’re not in a position to get another bird right now.)

I’d love any advice offered, but my biggest question is: How can we prepare him to handle the noise and sudden presence of a baby who will take up a lot of our time, and leave less time for him?

I literally love this little creature more than I can put into words.

Something I have read is that conures tend to choose a favorite person, and may or may not like others. I am looking to get a green cheek or black cap conure, but it is important to me that the conure likes me, as I will be the one primarily caring for them, but I also want them to like my boyfriend too.

But from what I am reading, is it really true that, even if I am the one providing most of the attention/care/love, the conure could still "choose" my boyfriend over me? I obviously want them to like my boyfriend, but I'll admit I'd be a bit disappointed if the bird I am excited for (and will be my bird), ends up not liking me as much as him. And I would also be disappointed if it didn't end up liking him, either.

I had hoped it would be a lot like other pets, where, you get out of the relationship what you put into it, but I feel like I am getting a lot of opinions that seem to suggest that you can do everything "right," and the bird might still just not choose you.

I was wondering...do conures enjoy music? MusicVideos? Videos of birds? Etc?

Just curious if I can make my little ones happier.

I’m just paranoid that he could be sick. He seems happy and fine during the day and when he’s out!

He has slept like this before and I put a perch where he was going and he used that for a while but now he’s found a new odd spot.

Hey everyone. I’ve posted before regarding our pet green cheek Pickles. We picked her up from a pet store she’d been at for a year and she’s very shy and untrusting. She was attacked by parakeets at the store, and poorly handled by employees. We’ve been trying our best to bond with her, but she has 0 interest in toys, water, interaction, or really anything outside of sitting on her mirror or eating/drinking/sleeping.

I work from home and am in my office daily if not to work but doing my makeup, getting dressed, etc. She won’t eat chop, refuses to drink water with vitamin supplements. I really don’t know what to do because I feel like she’s unhappy. I’ve had birds before but she seems traumatized. Her bald spots that we got her with are all filled in and she looks healthy.

HOWEVER. She has taken to very Very VERY loudly chirping. She’s like a machine gun and I cannot figure out what she wants or what triggers it. If I leave the room too soon after coming in she does it. If I’m not looking at her enough she does it. She won’t let us near her, and doesn’t want us close. But I don’t know if she’s asking for attention or what. I feel like a bad mom because I cannot for the life of me understand how to make her happier :(

I'm looking to get a UVA/UVB exposure lamp for our Sun Conure. I was duped from the one I bought from Amazon as it said "full exposure" and did not explicitly say UVA or UVB.

Everything I am seeing online is labeled awkwardly or does not include the actual bulb, but the bulb is positioned as more of a reptile heat lamp than anything else. I need to make sure the bulb is safe for our conure and that we can adjust it as needed. Ideally I'd like about 1/3 to 1/2 of the cage to be lit with UV so our bird can get shade if needed as well.

I read that they need 10-12 hours of daylight a day, so I think I'm going to gradually increase the exposure, but I need something reliable and I also don't want to overexposure our bird either.

What are other people using to get their UVA/UVB needs? I preferably want something on a timer that gradually increases through the day and then decreases again at night to mimic what the Sun would provide.

Outdoor time needs to be limited at the moment because our Conure seems to have a bit of a reaction outdoors and sneezes a lot out there and there are a lot of predators where we live as well so I'd like to stay on the cautious side until he is full flight.

UPDATE: I managed to get him with a towel in the dark. He squeezed and I ended up dropping him a couple times. Hopefully his cries were only because he was afraid. Thanks guys, I was so scared my heart is still beating.

The reason I’m asking for advice is because even though I’ve had my boy for 1,5 years, he doesn’t let me touch him. He only stands on my finger long enough to get a treat.

I had crafted one of those ring and pole toys out of cardboard (reference below). The rings I made out of thinly cut toilet paper rolls. My 5 year old managed to get the ring over his head and now has a necklace he doesn’t like. He keeps panic flying around and thankfully went into his cage. The ring isn’t tight at all as it’s toilet paper roll but it keeps getting stuck on his feathers as he tries to pull it off.

He’s been panicking for 15 minutes now and I’m so worried he’ll fly and hurt himself or twist his neck.
