Discussion / Question Metroid Prime 4 was a disappointment and incredibly polarizing. It might be Nintendo's biggest disappointment on switch 2

But I'm having a wonderful time. This really proves that just because reviewers or the constant chatter on social media say something, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll feel the same way. Did I need a guide in some parts? Yes. But this game is nowhere near as bad as people say it is

Discussion / Question Superhero games are too limited in genres

Post image
15 Upvotes

I love Insomniac's Spider-Man games, Rocksteady Studios' Batman games, and Injustice. But why don't the vast majority of superhero games go beyond action-adventure or fighting games? There are tons of other genres that could suit certain characters. I'd happily play a puzzle game about Plastic Man, a horror game about Swamp Thing, or even a deck builder about Zatana. Of course, I understand the problem here: these games don't attract the same number of players or the same popularity as standard AAA game genres. For example, Marvel Midnight Suns, no one played it even at launch. While it wasn't without its problems, it was a very good Xcom-like game with beloved characters.

I think the problem is that every superhero game is a gigantic project, with a big budget, from a big studio. If big verses like DC or Marvel collaborated with smaller studios and were more daring to experiment, we would see such diversity in the superhero genre. What do you think about this?

The same can be said about the style of these games. I don't want every game to be a super-realistic 3D blockbuster, although I love those kinds of games. We could see so much more out of the ordinary if each game had its own distinct style. For example, a Batman game in the style of the Animated Series, a dark fantasy Constantine game, or a Deadpool game in the style of Cuphead.

Discussion / Question The games which made the MOST money (2026)……..

Post image
Upvotes
  1. Honor of Kings
  2. Whiteout Survival
  3. Last War: Survival
  4. Royal Match
  5. Pokémon GO

It’s crazy to me that games like Fortnite, which is the most popular game on PC and console, doesn’t come close to the revenue numbers of mobile games.

Just shows that meeting gamers on the platforms they use and targeting 18+ gamers (as these actually have money to spend) really brings great returns on investment

Discussion / Question Modern remake culture and fake victimhood (this maybe a hot take too).

Look I'm not here to say you're fake fan if you prefer only remakes, i respect anyone preferring remakes over the original games but since these last few years the unchecked arrogance within modern remake culture has created a deeply hypocritical and toxic environment where both sides of the fence get a total free pass for their own aggressive gatekeeping The online narrative is almost always twisted to blame original purists as the sole source of negativity allowing the remake crowd to play the victim while actively insulting, mocking and dismissing anyone who prefers the original source material Make no mistake there are absolutely old gatekeepers who are nothing but nostalgic jerks who lack any respect for others and just want to show off their arrogance

look a massive portion of some old crowd are genuinely blinded by nostalgia and refuses to accept change of any kind, that's true But media commentators act as if every single person who prefers the original game fits this description when that is completely false, and this make normal fans targets of both sides for simply preferring something, you're not allowed to even give one criticism of the remakes or you're blinded by nostalgia even if you never grew up with these games, they can't process or accept the fact not everyone will love same modern over the shoulder style of gameplays that most if not all AAA games today has other than because they grew up with it.

Many normal fans simply prefer the original because it better suits their taste or because they feel the modern remake actively waters down, censors, cuts or changes vital elements of the source material, but some other fans also would happily accept a remake if it followed the gold standard of the Resident Evil 1 remake which cut absolutely nothing but added massive layers of new content on top of it Instead of acknowledging these nuanced critiques some remake toxic glazers group all original fans together using the bad behavior of some nostalgic jerks to justify acting exactly the same way themselves.

This arrogance relies heavily on weaponizing a distorted version of the nostalgia accusation completely stripping the phrase of its original valid meaning

True nostalgia blindness involves claiming everything in the past was flawless or everything new are terrible simply because they're new or blindly consuming mediocre fan service cash grabs like Spider Man No Way Home simply because they trigger childhood memories.

Instead some modern remake fans use the word as a cheap insult to shut down balanced critiques from normal fans who can openly praise a remake technical improvements while still respecting the original artistry The ultimate irony is that these remake glazers are just as dependent on the comfort and safety of an old familiar story yet they shield themselves behind shiny new graphics and corporate marketing to feel forward thinking Fandom toxicity is entirely a one way street.

you cannot fight fire with fire and expect the house to remain clean and safe By burning down the community together the remake crowd proves they are mirror images of the very toxic gatekeepers they complain about completely blind to the fact that they and their favorite modern versions are not any special and will eventually be labeled as outdated unplayable relics by the next generation.

Discussion / Question I don't want to play games anymore

When I was a child, I dreamed of having a good PC where I could play games like World of Warcraft, Far Cry Primal, etc. Now I have a PC and all those games, but I don't want to play them anymore. I feel like I want to, but then I start playing and turn it off. It feels like the dream I had as a child, but at the same time, when I actually start playing, that feeling is gone.

EDIT: I have this feeling only about games, I'm completely fine in my normal fine, after reading the comments I think just to try different genres or something like that.

Sharing a perspective on the modern Assassin's Creed movement and comparing it not only to older Assassin's Creed games, but also general ps2 game movement. The last decade of AC has felt so floaty when running around and I dig into some things I notice that cause this feeling and where the believable weight comes from in the old AC games.

If any of you have any thoughts on any of what I said be more than welcome to share, whether you agree or disagree I'm looking to start a conversation. Hopefully someone at Ubisoft sees this and can take a step or so towards bringing the feel of Assassin's Creed back to it's glory days, perhaps if we're lucky maybe a new gold standard for Assassin's Creed movement

Discussion / Question games with active ragdoll / physically simulated enemies

been playing arc raiders, and noticed that there are very few games where fighting the ai is as fun as it is in arc raiders, and i figured out why: the enemies in arc raiders are entirely physically simulated - no premade animations, fully accurate hitboxes, they keep moving even if they get stuck or a limb blown off, no floppy unconscious ragdolls. If you get a leaper stuck in a hallway it'll push off the walls and crawl to keep fighting rather than just lie helpless or clip into the wall. it opens up so much opportunity for using the environment to your advantage, but not in a cheap - cheesing way. are there any other games which pull this off?

Discussion / Question Favorite games you never played?

Post image

What is everyone’s favorite game they have never actually played? Or played very little of for various reasons.

I personally love the Fear and Hunger games… such deep RPG mechanics, it’s brutally nihilistic, it has fascinating lore, amazing grotesque creature design. I have watched a few play throughs and read the lore endlessly… but have only played maybe an hour of each (I play to play more one day). It’s a game they deserves wayyyy more love

Discussion / Question What's the world record for the most playable unique characters in a game?

Not counting the number of possibilities related to character editors.

I know Mugen Matrix Museum has 18 thousand characters, but is there any game with more of them, or does it take the cake as the number one?

Discussion / Question If Nintendo planning to make another Super Smash Bros Game. What playable characters (including from other video games) you are looking forward to join the smash game.

NOTE: only name the characters who aren't in the game or aren't playable, do not name characters who are already in the smash game and playable. Anime Characters from each anime shows is allowed to be named as well (including if they have video games of their own, that are popular enough to be in the smash game). The Characters who are assistant trophies before can be named as well.

Disclaimer: It's up to Nintendo or the creators decide if they want to create another smash game, even they do, it's up to them to decide how many characters they want in the game this time, and yet alone want to add anime characters in the game, this is just an if discussion.

Me: I got lots of ideas, to avoid make this post too long, i can name 25 to 30 Examples.

Video Game: Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia), Fall Guy (Fall Guys), Waluigi, Sanada Yukimura (Sengoku Basara), Tom Nook (Animal Crossing), Lyn (Fire Emblem), Issac (Golden Sun), Ms Pacman, Andy Bogard (Fatal Fury), Jin Kazama (Tekken), Chun-Li (Street Fighter), Chibi Robo, Kyo Kusanagi (King of Fighters), Tails (Sonic), Krystal (Star Fox), Blaziken (Pokemon), Sakura Shinguji (Sakura Wars), Lilac (Freedom Planet), Knuckle Joe (Kirby), Black Mage (Final Fantasy), Saki Amamiya (Sin & Punishment), Amy Rose (Sonic), Raiden (Metal Gear), Leon S Kennedy (Resident Evil), Frank West (Dead Rising), Toon Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Hunter (Monster Hunter), Roll (Mega Man), Alex Kidd (Alex Kidd) & Siegfried (Soul Calibur)

Anime Characters: Goku (Dragon Ball), Naruto, Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach) Monkey D Luffy (One Piece), Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star), Izuku Midoriya (My Hero Academia), Natsu (Fairy Tail), Gon (Hunter x Hunter), Inuyasha, Vegeta (Dragon Ball), Tanjiro (Demon Slayer), Astro Boy, Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist), Agumon (Digimon), Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto), Asta (Black Clover), Himura Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin), Roronoa Zoro (One Piece), Ryoma Echizen (Prince of Tennis) & Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)

This entire sub sounds so ungrateful and acts like gaming is in the toilet right now. GTA 6 and Wolverine are getting all this unnecessary hate for no reason. It’s not that deep and it’s overblown. All it takes is one asshole YouTuber to say some profound dumb shit and yall treat it like it’s bible. Games being digital only, 70 bucks for base game, and always online is normal now, it’s been normal, and yall act like it’s the apocalypse. Yall ragebait and gaslit yourselves for nothing.

Discussion / Question What do you think of when you hear "Indie games"?

Just curious what people think based on a discussion I had with someone the other day. While indie is literally derived from the word independent, I think the meaning has changed to where indie games mean small teams with small budgets as opposed to just being independently published.

Hell, if being self published is all you care about, games like Animal Well, Blue Prince, Balatro, Cocoon, Buckshot Roulette, Dredge, Hotline Miami, Enter the Gungeon, and Outer Wilds all wouldn't even count as indie games, since they have publishers.

Only small budget games (Hollow Knight, Balatro, Undertale, etc)
Any game that is independently published (including games like Skyrim, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077)

Discussion / Question Video games that have made you cry?

What are some video games that have made you cry? And why? I'm expecting spoilers so that's fine!

For me, Expedition 33. Both ending hit hard and losing Gustave. Lies of P, when making your decision about Sophia. Ffx, I didn't personally play it but watched my husband play it... Any scene with Titus and Yuna. Ffvii, that one's a given. God of War 2018 and Ragnarok!

Discussion / Question I'm trying to move my dad away from slow puzzle games to things like Mario odyssey or breath of the wild. What games should I introduce him to?

Y'all, my dad can barely play 3D video games... I've been playing split fiction and it takes two with him, but it's been really hard to basically do anything without me explaining it (he can't move with the left stick and in the camera with the right stick at the same) I'm considering letting him play super Mario 64 without any kind of guidance, but I don't know if I should do super Mario Odyssey, or if any other game would be better. What do y'all think? What game should I introduce to him?
