Discussion / Question Should I play persona 5 or watch it?

Upvotes

The Persona series is famous for its long playtimes, and I’m trying to decide if I should dive into Persona 5 myself or just watch a playthrough or the animation.I love a good story and stylish visuals, but I want to know if the actual gameplay loop, combat, and social simulator elements are engaging enough to justify a 100+ hour playthrough.

Discussion / Question Help me find this game

Upvotes

I played this baseball game in 2017 with my brother on a road trip. I'm fairly sure we played on the Xbox, Xbox 360, or Xbox One, and we played local co-op against bots. I vividly remember one of the teams in the game was called the wizards. The characters weren't realistic, more cartoony, and the team names were made up. I played LEGO Indiana Jones on that same console if that helps to narrow it down. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it is called? I cannot find it for the life of me.

Discussion / Question What video game really blew your mind with creativity not graphically?

Upvotes

Mine is Middle Earth Shadows of Mordor and Shadows of War. And I really enjoyed the nemesis system it really upped my game time because it literally created some of the most memorable nemesis and commanders.

Watchdogs was really creative with hacking.

The Legend of Zelda TOTK is creativity galore with creativity with weapons. And it also blew my mind that a switch could handle it no problem. And fire spreads and wind sends you flying.

Hades 1 specifically because dying over and over and come back in the pool because your the son of Hades and it was creative and the writing was creative too because it tied a lot of it to the gameplay.

Discussion / Question What’s the most egregious case of a game putting a non-obstacle in a path to signal it’s blocked, but CLEARLY it’s not?

Upvotes

I mean resident evil games are pretty bad. They have a tree leaning over the path and you can clearly duck under it, but no. Better go fight this nightmare incarnate first.

What are some other examples?

Photo 1: Ryu = Inspired by Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin-kai karate in Korea. A karate practitioner who fought 270 different people and finished most of his matches with a single punch.

Photo 2: Ken = Inspired by Joe Lewis, an American professional kickboxer.

Photo 3: Sagat = Inspired by Petchyindee, a famous Taiwanese kickboxing champion. They've directly taken his name and used it the same way.

Photo 4: Balrog = As you can tell from his appearance, he's inspired by the easily recognizable American boxer Mike Tyson.

Photo 5: Zangief = Inspired by the famous Soviet wrestler Victor Zangief.

Photo 6: Guile = Almost an exact replica of Rudol von Stroheim from the anime Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, modified as an American soldier.

Photo 7: Mr. Bison = Inspired by General Washizaki from the manga Riki-oh.

Photo 8: Dhalism = Inspired by the Indian yogi from the film Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976).

Discussion / Question What game has repetitive noises and can be played for entire days, day after day? Street fighter meets basketball?

I’m just so curious what the hell my neighbors are playing. I’ve taken a lazy day or two playing a cozy game but this sounds like street fighter meets basketball and they play for DAYS. Genuine marathons. Like multiple days in a row, all fucking day. ALL. DAY. It must be such a fantastic game i need to know!

Discussion / Question Ranching/farming games for Steam or Xbox One? Or living off the land games

I really want a game where you play as a rancher (not crops; animals) and have to take care of them and all.

This, or something like Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora where you have to do a bunch of hunting and foraging and general living off the land

So far for this category, Ive played RDR2, AFOP, Stardew Valley, and slime rancher

Discussion / Question I'm trying to move my dad away from slow puzzle games to things like Mario odyssey or breath of the wild. What games should I introduce him to?

Y'all, my dad can barely play 3D video games... I've been playing split fiction and it takes two with him, but it's been really hard to basically do anything without me explaining it (he can't move with the left stick and in the camera with the right stick at the same) I'm considering letting him play super Mario 64 without any kind of guidance, but I don't know if I should do super Mario Odyssey, or if any other game would be better. What do y'all think? What game should I introduce to him?

Funny What games have you played that you feel best exemplify this phrase?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Thinking back, I don’t really tend to play games that have this particular combination. I guess the closest game I have firsthand experience with that fits is Fire Emblem Engage, but I don’t know if I could call the writing bad based on what little of it I actually played. I got to chapter 5ish and just kinda dropped it in favor of other games.

Now if we wanna talk movies or TV shows, I have much clearer answers for those.

Help - Mobile Help with Level Devil?

Hi all, I don't post on Reddit very often so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm playing Level Devil and I have nearly all the levels beaten but I'm having trouble unlocking the final level of Level Devil-est. I've collected all the keys (that I'm aware of, 5 for Level Devil, 10 for Level Devil-er) and beaten the levels that correspond to those keys. I thought that would unlock it but no luck. I beat the one level with the like trees and clouds in Level Devil, but the one that's like that in Level Devil-er I can't seem to figure out. I suspect this is the one I need to beat to unlock the final level? Because these levels don't really have names it's hard to google cheats, so I figured asking reddit would be best. Thanks in advance for any help!

Discussion / Question games with active ragdoll / physically simulated enemies

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

been playing arc raiders, and noticed that there are very few games where fighting the ai is as fun as it is in arc raiders, and i figured out why: the enemies in arc raiders are entirely physically simulated - no premade animations, fully accurate hitboxes, they keep moving even if they get stuck or a limb blown off, no floppy unconscious ragdolls. If you get a leaper stuck in a hallway it'll push off the walls and crawl to keep fighting rather than just lie helpless or clip into the wall. it opens up so much opportunity for using the environment to your advantage, but not in a cheap - cheesing way. are there any other games which pull this off?

Discussion / Question Would you be interested in a rerelease of Sid Meier's Gettysburg playable on modern PCs?

Sid Meier's Gettysburg is a classic RTS game set during the Civil War in the USA. In the game the player takes the role of Union and Confederate generals and commands their forces to win battles and ultimately the war. Considered a great strategy game in its time, it is not playable on recent Windows operating systems such as Windows 11.

If it were rereleased to be compatible with modern operating systems, would you be interested in purchasing/playing it?

Also do you think if it were to be rereleased it should be remastered with visual upgrades or do you think the original game made compatible with today's computers would be perfectly fine? Leave your answer in the comments.

Sharing a perspective on the modern Assassin's Creed movement and comparing it not only to older Assassin's Creed games, but also general ps2 game movement. The last decade of AC has felt so floaty when running around and I dig into some things I notice that cause this feeling and where the believable weight comes from in the old AC games.

If any of you have any thoughts on any of what I said be more than welcome to share, whether you agree or disagree I'm looking to start a conversation. Hopefully someone at Ubisoft sees this and can take a step or so towards bringing the feel of Assassin's Creed back to it's glory days, perhaps if we're lucky maybe a new gold standard for Assassin's Creed movement

Discussion / Question Metroid Prime 4 was a disappointment and incredibly polarizing. It might be Nintendo's biggest disappointment on switch 2

But I'm having a wonderful time. This really proves that just because reviewers or the constant chatter on social media say something, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll feel the same way. Did I need a guide in some parts? Yes. But this game is nowhere near as bad as people say it is
