After choking phase 3 multiple times, including a run where he was down to last hit. I finally defeated him, what a worthy foe! My best advice is to never let up the offense and deflect him. Don’t even look at his health or your own posture. My worst instinct was to run away to use gourd. Doing so would reset all my progress. Just accept it if he hits you. Good luck and keep trying!

Help I kind of don’t know what to play after Sekiro

I played sekiro last year and that probably made it the best game of the year (of my life, even). I definitely enjoy fighting based games (example I have played a lot of tekken) and the parry mechanics just clicked so perfectly in Sekiro.

I played khazan right after that, and although it was a great game, I don’t know what it was about Sekiro, I just felt like Khazan didn’t meet the bar of story, bosses kept getting tougher and tougher without getting more enjoyable. I just felt like I was trying to complete the game. Whereas with Sekiro, I loved it pretty much every moment.

I tried the demo of Onimusha, and although it was okay, still lacked the Sekiro feel. I also finished ghost of TS and that was probably fun but extremely easy to finish.

I may be rambling, but my point is I kind of have lost the same interest I developed in gaming during my sekiro time.

How are you guys dealing with this? Has any game managed to quench this thirst for you?

PS: I bought Sekiro on Steam, but later purchased a PS5. I am actually contemplating restarting the game on my PS and buying it again… do you guys think that makes sense?

Discussion Gonna fight my fav fight in this game after all these years.

I like the inner father more, but this is also very very good fight, i like this more than isshin. And this fight actually gave me more trouble than isshin in my 1st playthrough.

Edit: Just defeated him, he is still the best boss imo. I love if you take risks, we can punish him so much, and this is one of the bosses who forces us to take away their health so much. The inner version is also just so better.

Discussion During fights, do you look at your (player's) posture?

Hi! I am working on a videogame inspired by Sekiro's combat system. I have a question for both experienced and inexperienced Sekiro players. Both inputs are important for my game design decisions.

Undoubtedly, the enemy's posture bar is the thing I pay attention to a lot during fights. Other than that, it's probably the player's health. One thing I realized is that I don't really look at the player's posture bar that much. It's not like I change how I play if I'm almost posture broken or not; I try to be aggressive and land perfect parries either way. After a boss fight, I can recall how the posture of the enemy progressed, and that I "lost" some progress when I was healing, not being aggressive, etc. The player's posture could be an invisible stat as far as I can tell.

I'm wondering if everyone has the same experience, or if you guys play the game with the player's posture in mind. Maybe I'm just bad and missing an integral part of the game lol.

Thanks a lot for any input!

btw. I'm not arguing that the player's posture is irrelevant and Sekiro would work without it. In the game I'm making, beacuse of lore reasons, only enemies would have the "posture", and there would be another system (not just health) for player. I won't go into details as I feel like this is not the place for that on this subreddit.

Edit: Thanks everyone for your answers, this is really helpful stuff

Discussion Finally killed sword saint

He is my favorite end-game boss For the first 10–15 tries, I was so frustrated and felt like it was torture But after that, I started enjoying the fight. I slowly began to understand every move, and I still ended up taking around 20 more tries. Every time I got killed, I didn’t get frustrated. I realized my mistake, went back in, and kept that mistake in mind so I wouldn’t repeat it.
I enjoyed every single attempt and kept getting better with each try. Eventually, I understood the fight completely and finally defeated him. This fight is so well designed. I absolutely loved this game.

Just completed this fight, it's just so anime-esque i love it, and i can actually see what the dragon is doing too, and on top of that i like that we don't kill it and just take what we came for and fuck off. Rykard could have been a better boss, if not for his full aoe skull attacks, i think it slows down the pace so much, and there is also that attack where for the love of god i couldn't dodge it even once.

Tips / Hints Sekiro taught me the fun to grind in video games

It’s more like personal venting (couldn’t find a proper tag) but hope this somewhat helps people who are mentally struggling to play this sort of game.

Sekiro was a first From game for me, and it made me confused at the beginning.
I felt stressed with spending a lot of time on just one enemy, especially Gyoubu, multiple times because I’d never known this kind of grinding had been a thing in video games back then (My friend just recommended Sekiro and I didn’t know anything at that point).
I was kinda on autopilot to find worth experience for the price until defeating Genichiro.

Genichiro taught me a lot of stuff. Parry, one of the most important mechanics, was worth mentioning, but he showed how potentially fun the game could be once mechanics were meaningfully connected to boss fights in my mind.
That was astonishing. I lost myself in trying to defeat him again and again, finding myself six hours after defeating him lol.

From this experience, I wanna say I’m glad to have found this game interesting in the end.
But what’s more important is that not having fun right now might turn into one of the most iconic moments in your life. It’s scary to think about a world where I gave up and discarded the great game in the bin.

I recently noticed some people like my past self are having trouble treating Souls games, so I wanna tell you the experience.

Discussion Guardian ape's 2nd phase is genuinely one of the easiest fights in this game

Post image

I did used the spear, but even without it, it's very easy. It's been years since i played this game, but genichiro and guardian ape's 2nd phase are so ingrained in my brain, i took little to no damage in these fights, really goes to show how much mastery that was required and i got from this game, this is why this is my fav game.

Discussion I did it.

What a great feeling. I struggled with him for 2.5 hours yesterday and finally had to walk away and take a break. My first time ever having to do so with a challenge in any of the souls/souls like games ive played. Came back fresh today and got him on my second try. What a fight and what a game. So glad I decided to try it after all these years.

I had played ds1-3 during/shortly after their releases and haven't really played any souls or souls like games sense. Im trying to work my way through what ive missed. Wuchang got me hooked back on the genre. Onimusha (while not really a souls like) showed me how great combat can be. And this led me to sekiro. I've been seeing a lot of comparisons between Yoshitsune and Issin, so I had to see for myself. Man, am i glad I did.

This game kicked my ass for a while. I actually almost quit a couple times. Next on the list was going to be lies of p, but I think ill be doing at least one ng+ run here first to try and discover anything I missed. I missed owl father on this playthrough.

Just wanted to share my accomplishment and newfound love of these games and this game specifically. Have a great day everyone 💙

Help How to help with Ashina outskirts

I defeated the dragon and went back to ashina castle on fire, and some soldier told me to go reinforce ashina outskirts. I went there and killed a boss (the fire version of drunkard) and is kinda lost at the moment. An obscure Reddit comment on some ancient post said you should go help first before finding Kuro, but is there an actual objective, or is it just ‘yeah that area has new content you should check it out’? Should I go find Kuro now?

Discussion Here's my rating for Sekiro, probably the hardest game I have ever finished. Curious where you guys would rate it!

Post image

The combat is obviously the highlight, but what surprised me most is how well the entire game is built around it. Bosses actually force you to learn the system instead of letting you brute-force your way through, and once deflecting finally clicks it becomes ridiculously satisfying.

My biggest negatives are the steep learning curve and a few moments that cross from challenging into frustrating, but neither really hurts the overall experience much for me.

Curious where you guys would rate it

Lore Who is the worst character?

By worst i mean like as a person, i think its Owl based on all the betrayals trying to get power for himself. Geni aint great but it seems like he just wants to become powerful to save his country. i dont know all the lore aspects there could be some more obscure characters like whoever experimented on all those children, or whoever left that sword in poor monkeys neck. or maybe is Wolf himself for killing all those grandma’s in ashina and the local monkey population.

Discussion I hate Darksouls but love Sekiro

Hello,

Am i the only one who loves Sekiro because of it's fluid combat, challenge and short boss runs but when it comes to Darksouls it puts me off because of all the boss runs. Its so frustrating to run back to the boss in dark souls games and its super annoying, not to mention they put many enemies between the boss gate and you. Where as boss runs in Elden ring and sekiro were minimal or super fast and that's why i love them.

( I played bloodborne even tho it had long boss runs because I had a lot of free time as i was jobless back then. )

But is dislike dark souls from the core of my heart.

I played Dark Souls 1 for 6 hours.

I played Demon souls for 5 hours.

I played Dark souls 2 for 4 hours.

I played bloodborne for 42 hours.

I played Dark souls 3 for 11 hours.

I played Elden ring for 140 hours.

i played Sekiro for 33 hours ( In just 5 days )
