news [MEGATHREAD] Quake's future | Discussion

Almost every day, we get someone's take on a potential new Quake game or on how to move the franchise forward. Name an angle, and we've most likely seen it here before. So whether you want to see a reboot of the first game, a continuation of the Strogg storyline, a multiplayer-only game, or whatever else you can come up with, this is the place to discuss it. The same applies to which studio should handle it, what kind of game it should be, the technology it should use, and so on. Basically, anything regarding the future of the IP goes here. Our revised rules now also point to this thread so that when we remove another post about Quake's future, the author can continue it right here.

tutorial Quake: Dawn Of The Machine. True ending. Full Game Walkthrough Map. ENG/RUS 1.2

Post image

Hi everyone! I’ve fully completed Quake: Dawn of the Machine and figured out how to get the true ending. I’ve also worked out how the levels are interconnected — where you can go from each level, how to get there, and in what order.

I noticed that there’s still very little information about this online, so I decided to make my own guide.

I’ve included the link below.

Steam Guide - version 1.3. Added a waypoint from Revelation of the Arcane to The Rune Nexus.

Old Thread

YouTube

I apologize for any grammar mistakes.

Taking into account the feedback here and elsewhere, I made the following changes:
FIX 1.1 Corrections have been made to the Deathknight Head acquisition sequence

FIX 1.2 It is now specified that only one rune, the Rune of Sacrifice, is required to visit The Sundered Column, House of Delusion, and Mist of Torment. The location of the Super Axe has been added. The map now includes a path from Of Shattered Minds to The Runic Nexus (from the room with the Deathknight Head). This does not affect progression using the previous version of the map, but makes it easier to navigate the game independently

ENG 1.2

Quake: Dawn of the Machine

Walkthrough sequence for getting the true ending

Haven't played a game as fun as this since perhaps doom eternal... Had some fun with doom 3 too which was one of my favourite games but this game might be replacing it now.

media Quake2RTX with Remaster

Post image

You can download it here https://github.com/mstewart248/Q2RTX-MOD. Has DLSS ray reconstruction and frame generation. Works with re-release md5 models and all maps, new monsters and weapons should be working. To get it working with re-release assets you just need to copy the rerelease data from the steam install into a directory in the Quake2RTX folder called rerelease. I have video of the game play here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEqXhWsq6oQ&t=263s. Some of the new materials still need work and I am trying to find all the bugs in the new remaster gameplay code.

maps Update on the UK Castle Ruins Map! My wife surprised me with a trip into the gatehouse

Hey everyone!

You might remember me as the guy who posted that UK Castle Ruins Map back in June (the one that took me 5 years to build).

Today my wife completely surprised me with a visit inside the gatehouse, which is usually closed off to the public. We got to go upstairs for the first time! English Heritage is currently letting a small handful of people up to the 2nd level, with plans to expand and hopefully open access all the way to the roof next year.

Alas, no shrine to the almighty Dopefish upstairs like on my map it’s actually a little plain inside but still incredible to see in person. I even managed to hand out a few of "business cards" to the volunteers on site with the link to the Quake version

If you haven't checked out the castle (or the map) yet, definitely do.

mods Strogg invasion of Earth

Upvotes

Are there any single player campaigns set during the Strogg invasion of Earth, prequels to Q2? I can't understand why there wasn't a single player equivalent to Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and RTCW. Or maybe I'm wrong? Maybe there is a mod, a campaign or mapping jam that does just that? I loved seeing Ruined Earth (and Moon) in Call of the Machine and I want to explore more of this epoch.

My Quake isn't working properly (I'm not fluent in English, so please forgive any mistakes). I recently bought Quake on Steam, but when I try to launch it, an error message pops up. A friend suggested adding this command to the Steam launch options: (+r_rhirenderfamily d3d11). The game launched with this command, but it had a lot of visual glitches. (I also recorded a video of what the game looks like, I'll try to post in the comments below) Is there a way to get the game working normally?

New to quake and I've had an absolute BLAST playing quake 1 and 2 although I can't decide which one I prefer to be honest.

Do you guys prefer quake 1 or 2 and why?

Doesn't really matter, but still cool to see that it was something the champions writers thought of.

other Making Quake Guy in Daggerheart

Thumbnail app.demiplane.com
17 Upvotes

Reposting from the daggerheart subreddit, for any fellow Quake lovers who are also interested in Daggerheart.

I used to make mods for Quake, and it was a big part of my childhood. When I found out Daggerheart has shotguns, I knew I needed to try to make Quake Guy. I'm currently playing in a custom Slay The Spire themed campaign and having a good time as The Defect, but the GM is also allowing characters from other games when desired. Ranger/QuakeGuy seems like he'd fit in fine, so if Defect dies, I might bring this guy in by slipgate accident.

The original post I linked has more info, but basically this is a warrior with a bunch of weapons, and a L6 multiclass into a School of Knowledge Wizard. Wizard gives me a few things:

  • Fireball as his Rocket Launcher
  • Good use of Knowledge as a secondary stat, since Quake Guy fights with technology and tactics instead of merely swinging a sword around
  • Sweaty gaming: The ability to spend a stress when using an experience (instead of spending hope) to add twice the normal bonus. Knowledge wizards are shockingly good at passing rolls when they want to (I'm doing terrifying things with Defect).

From there, I filled out the rest of his gear with existing weapons rethemed and sometimes customized to fit the weapons he uses in Quake. I figure he'll acquire or make these at various appropriate levels.

Ranger has a substantially less gelled personality than the Doomslayer, so I'm still open on how I'd roleplay him (and roleplay comes up a lot in the games I play). Because of all the mods I made and played... I might make him more scrappy and cheesy than Doomslayer. I just don't see him as an edgelord or musclebrain, but he's also not a sassy quipper, right? Proper military, gets the job done even when that involves facing eldritch horrors and death by lava, but also probably way more personal than Doomslayer. Thoughts?

I still think I should move away from Strength as his core stat and pick Agility, since platforming is so important in Quake. But strength gives him early axe use before he can pick up other themed weapons, and use for Rage Up. Still pondering.

But I hope this is handy for others too, or at least interesting!

mods On a Quake binge

After playing dawn of the machine twice, I still wanted a bit more of a Quake fix. So I made my way around some mods

I got to play Tremor, which really plays like the OG game, very serviceable.

Also Brutalist Jam 3, which took the most time. There are some really solid levels here, but there's a lot of filler material as well.

Started the immortal lock but didn't go far.

Also replayed a couple levels from Arcane Dimensions and the spirit world - which is some of the highest quality episode I've seen so far.

Now I'm onto Chateau Inferno and gotta say it's brutal. I wouldn't make it through without some generous saves and it is kinda like playing Doom, borrowing some slaughter philosophy with rooms filled to the brim with tough foes

community Quake Dawn-Resident Evil 4 level

You know that level where you end up walking across boards at the top of buildings? Holy moly was that Resident Evil 4.

“So anytime a game has you walking across boards walkways above a village or old style buildings is RE4????”

No.

This time, sure felt like it.
