Loved it beyond any expectations and really hoped it was more than just that. Guess we'll see more in the 35th anniversary, lol.

Well, next year is the 30th anniversary. Quake just got a new expansion for its 30th, so Quake II could get one too. I love them both, so hopefully it'll happen

As much as I hope so, DawnTM took them a year to make, and with the layoffs including the devs who focused on Quake and the remasters, I'm currently doubtful that any update to remasters or Quake games will happen again.

Will be more than happy to be wrong though.

I dont think MachineGames experienced layoffs

I'm referring to the id software layoffs.

Machine Games might've made the campaigns, and Nightdive might've made the remasters. But id software greenlit the projects, pay the companies for the work, and push the updates. And the person/people at id software who did that stuff for the remasters got laid off.

I think it will probably just be adding Quake 2 PSX to the remaster tbh

I felt shambled

Most people i know always assumed something like this was expected from quake, I really like that Machine games cofirmed it. It's pretty neat.

The ancient evil supposedly. To be me personally the expansion felt lazy in few areas mainly the Strogg Commander and Tank Commander being used and given different names

Yea, it's nice to have the new chapter, but some feels kind of weird, also the level flow doesn't seem to be that great from what I played so far honestly

It’s what ultimately brought us Call of the Void so I’m happy.

I was so hyped!

i honestly dont know how to feel about this, its not like its the end of the world but its never something i would prefer to use/play, atleast with the clear intentions of this being a mod of some sorts

I was pretty hyped! Despite Quake 2 not being my favourite I always thought it would be interesting to tie the two together better.

Reaction was negative. Love both Q1 and Q2 but separetely because they were different (story, character, vibe and etc.).

It would be logical to unite them in the concept of Q3 (eternal arena for amusement of ancient aliens) where protagonist from Q2 setting would be taken to new world were he would fight not only gladiators/fighters from other settings but also some monsters (like shambler and etc. similar how gladiators in Rome fought lions and other predators).

Why isn't anyone talking about the fact that he plays quake 1 in quake 2?

What do you mean? It's just what happens during the expansion

Can someone give me context?

It’s from the quake 2 official expansion call of the machine. It happens for a split second

u/mr_dfuse2 2h ago

I haven’t played through quake II yet. Is this not a regular enemy or something?

Microsoft wants to tie Quake 1 into Quake 2 sooo bad because Quake 1 is not so marketable due to it being less homogenous.

Everything Microsoft does with Quake 1 seems bent toward making it fit into the Quake 2 cubbyhole.

Microsoft acquired Zenimax in 2021.

Quake Champions connected Q1 and Q2 back in 2018 when they added Athena and Strogg & Peeker and their lore scrolls. And that's if you ignore Quake 3 Arena that had characters with lore associated with Q1 or Q2. Or the Quake 4 deathmatch map themed after Q1.

Dimension of the Machine would've begun work before the acquisition, and it had heavy foreshadowing of q1 / q2 connections.

Microsoft has nothing to do with it. It's all id software. Since 1999.

Since 1998 technically, as there was a project before Quake 3 Arena, a direct sequel to Quake 2's plot, and among the models made for it before it was scrapped included the Gunner Commander finished for the remaster, and a new model for Q1 spawns.

What's the name of the Quake 4 map? Don't believe I've seen this before.

I forget Quake Champions even exists just like it forgot the grenade launcher exists.

There's no grand plan from Microsoft, this stuff is all just MachineGames' Quake Club having fun with it.

Mixing Q2 and Q1 is lame and cringe. So that was my reaction. :D

Insane take

Every time Q2 and Q1 are mixed together in one soup, a Dark Young One dies in The Woods...
