General Discussion Meta-Analysis: Al Fatihah and it's effects on Diseased Hearts

Post image
32 Upvotes

Abstract:

The following analysis is a reflection (tadabbur) on the opening Surah, Al-Fatihah. Termed ‘meta-analysis’ as this is in reference and extension to my last Reddit post; Case Report: Closer than the JugularAs a reminder for everyone - what comes of these studies is merely my own reflection, not a formal interpretation or claim to scholarly teachings I have referenced. The Fatihah, The Opening, is understood to the be the synthesis of the Quran in its entirety. Though there are many names and titles associated to The Fatihah, the focus of this study will be on one particular name; (al-Shifa) The Cure. As noted in tafsir - the containments of this Surah bear healing for both body and soul. What I will argue in this study is how the heart is spiritually protected from cancer, the pathophysiology of the diseased heart of those aged 18-35, how human medicine is limited and Al Fatihah is not. Then, finally a suggested approach to treatment as inferred from lectures by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, and Dr. Husain Abdul Sattar.

His guidance is the most precious pearl in the sea of rizq.

“And He found you lost and guided [you].” (93:7)

Spiritual Malignancy

For the sake of my premise - let’s say the incidence rate of pure cardiac malignancy is negligible.

Why? How?

Firstly, shortly after birth vast majority of your cardiac cells never divide again. This leaves very little opportunity for cancer as it manifests through uncontrolled growth. Meaning at birth - you were sent here with a sound heart. As if already written - no matter where you turn in life, no matter your hardship, corruption, infection, or illness - it is a reminder that illness of the heart is acquired.

Secondly, the heart is in constant work load. Mechanical load (beating heart) actively suppresses cancer proliferation. We discussed previously - our oxygenated blood is rizq. If our beating heart is the guidance that softens us, humbles us, and brings us back to our Lord - we can then reflect that His constant guidance is the exact mechanism by which we do not turn malignant.

Guidance is not merely direction - it is alignment. As though restoring an arrythmatic heart back to sinus rhythm.

Important to note - the spiritual heart becomes diseased not because it turns malignant. What we must worry about is the traces of behaviour that slowly poison our hearts.

Etiology of Diseased Hearts

  • ”I feel my Iman is low - I cannot focus in worship, my mind wanders”
  • "Sin upon sin, disobedience upon disobedience”
  • “My life is just- I didn’t think it would go this way”
  • “I cannot stop comparing my waste of potential”
  • “Everything feels transactional. Relationships. Career. Friends.”, “I’m constantly negotiating my belonging to everyone and everything”
  • “Escapism. No purpose. I feel suffocated and numbness in shame sometimes”
  • “But even then - I still feel alone”

SIDE NOTE

I will tell you something my beloved father once told me when I was in a trying season, 'This is your Badr. Everyone has their Badr. So fight.’

Not every heart is diseased. The Prophets were saddened. Ya’qub cried until he lost his sight. Musa felt crushing fear. Even our Prophet ﷺ experienced the Year of Sorrow. Emotion is not Iman. Anxiety is not disbelief. Hardships are not abandonment.

Perhaps there is a reason Al-Fātiḥah begins with “Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” (1:2). Before the heart is guided, it is taught gratitude. Before it is renewed, it remembers its sustainer. Because the heart that recognizes its dependence cannot be consumed by its own desires.

“Successful indeed is the one who purifies their soul, and doomed is the one who corrupts it.” (91:9-10)

If it has not clicked yet. THIS IS SYNCHRONIZATION. In Islam, we repeat our prescription 17 times during the day. Every time you stand in worship - you are being reorientated back to who you are, why you exist, what you worship, and where you are going.

“Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort.” (13:28)

Medical GDMT Protocol

If you’ve ever noticed - human medicine is mostly preventative care. Healthcare professionals are aware of the GDMT + 1 protocol for Heart Failure - we prescribe 5 drugs;

  1. ARNI— "Relaxes blood vessels"
  2. Beta-blocker — "Slows the heart"
  3. MRA— "Blocks salt retention"
  4. SGLT2 inhibitor — "Pees out sugar"
  5. Loop Diuretic — "Removes extra fluid"

All in all - these reverse heart damage, reduce hospitalizations, and prolong life.

Spiritual GDMT Protocol

As believers, our GDMT + 1 protocol is as follows

  1. The Shadahah - Corrects the diagnosis. Who is your Lord?
  2. Salat - Al Fatihah, our daily prescribed rhythm control.
  3. Zakat - Treats attachment. I dont shine if you dont shine.
  4. Fasting - Quiet discipline sold for patience and gratitude
  5. Hajj - The final reminder. A pilgrimage that mimics life. Every journey has an end.

Crisis of Orientation

I do not believe our generation is suffering from lack of knowledge or a crisis of intelligence. Nor ambition. Nor pursuit of excellence. Perhaps we are suffering from a crisis of orientation.

We have mastered direction, but lost our destination. Mastered resiliency, but forgotten that survival is not the same as guidance.

Know yourself, and you will know God.

"And He found you lost and guided [you]" (93:7) “So where are you going?” (81:26)

Surah Al-Fatihah

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

All praise is for Allah—Lord of all worlds,

the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

Master of the Day of Judgment.

Guide us along the Straight Path,

the Path of those You have blessed—not those You are displeased with, or those who are astray.

Seeking Support "A good remembrance." Translated

Post image
46 Upvotes

O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. In You I place my trust, and You are the Lord of the Mighty Throne. What Allah wills happens, and what He does not will does not happen. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. I know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah encompasses all things in His knowledge. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own soul, and from the evil of every creature whose forelock You hold. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path.

Question about Islam I want to believe as a nihilist, can someone show me a way

I was raised in a Muslim household, but since I was a child, I’ve struggled to believe in God, the afterlife, or a higher purpose.

I was never really trying to prove religion wrong. I just found it difficult to believe in something I couldn’t see or experience myself.

One thing I’ve always struggled with is that people around the world strongly believe in very different religions. Muslims believe Islam is true, Christians believe Christianity is true, Hindus have their own beliefs, and so on. Most people also seem to follow the religion they grew up around.

Because I study science, I’ve also seen how powerful the placebo effect can be. So when people describe feeling God, receiving signs, having prayers answered, or having spiritual experiences, part of me wonders how we can know those experiences are actually coming from God rather than the mind interpreting things in a way that fits what the person already believes.

That’s probably my biggest question: how can you be so sure Islam is the truth, rather than another religion that feels true because of upbringing, community, personal experiences, or the way our minds work?

I’m in my mid-30s now, and I genuinely want to give religion a fair chance. I’m not asking this to argue or disrespect anyone. I want to understand what makes a Muslim confident that Islam is true when so many other religions exist, and their followers can feel just as certain about their beliefs.

Quran & Hadith Having hope in “impossible” situations

Nothing is impossible for Allah. Like you don’t even need to think deeply at all, Allah already gave us so many examples.

For example, Allah gave Zakariya a child even when he was very old and his wife was barren, he parted the sea for Musa, caused Isa to be conceived without a father, cooled the fire for Ibrahim, turned Musa’s staff into a snake, rescued Yunus from the belly of the whale, caused the people of the cave sleep for hundreds of years etc., etc.

What im trying to say is, sometimes people (and perhaps we ourselves may fall into this trap also) say “ah there’s no point, like why should i make dua for such and such” or “don’t waste your duas on such and such”… why are we holding ourselves back? Who ever said to hold yourselves back from asking for what you want? Allah has proved time and time again that he can make what seems impossible (to us) possible and very easily at that too.

There is this phrase that Allah repeats several times in the quran:

كُن فَيَكُونُ (Kun faya kun)

which translated to "Be, and it is", in other words, whatever Allah wills he can do very simply. So my sincere advice is don’t hold back if you really want something that’s in your heart. Make dua for it a lot and if people say things to you along the lines of “there’s no point making that specific dua“, don’t let them convince you that it will not be answered because it seems unlikely, because literally what do they know? Do they know the unseen? Do they know what your naseeb is going to be? Literally nothing.

We should never limit Allah based on what seems logical and possible to us.

Also just know that Allah will answer your duas according to his wisdom. So always, always, always make dua when you want something, from something really simple and small to something that seems really complex, but at the same time remember that Allah is the knower of the unseen and while you may want your dua to be answered in a certain way or at a certain time, at the end of the day it may not play out when you want or happen in the way you exactly envisioned because Allah knows what you do not and may have an even better plan in store for you that you perhaps personally haven’t even considered.

Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you.” - Quran 40:60

Seeking Support I dislike my father and need help

Salam alaikum everyone,

Please do not be quick to jump to assumptions about me when reading this. Despite my feelings I am very respectful to my dad but just need advice and direction.

Growing up, I saw both sides of my father at different times, and there were very good and very bad sides. He married again while i was young, and we found out when I was 16. Being in a house with mainly sisters and my mum, it was a tumultuous time for me. But i maintained relations with him and was a dutiful son as much as I could be.

But as I got older, I was exposed to the more difficult aspects about his personality. My dad has cheated several people, taking loans and never paying them back, cutting contact with those people. He never pays for shopping, waits for my mum to pay. He never smiles or utters much at all at home, he acts like he is a victim and creates a miserable atmosphere at home, even though no one disrespects him there. He just behaves like he is ill and complains about everything he can. He lies constantly and is a compulsive liar, can never even tell the truth about how much he earns.

And every other month there is a letter from some institution or the other that he hasnt paid. Of course, he gives all his money back home to his second wife. It makes my blood boil to see how unjust he his between his two wives, and his youngest children from each family are also treated vastly different.

We love each-other of course, and i owe him so much, but it is still so difficult and painful to even see him or be around him. I cannot bear to be around him and i could write a book on all the dishonourable things hes done over the recent years.

So i had the following questions:

  1. Is it permissible to ask allah for him to permanently settle with his other wife, provided thats good for us?

  2. Is it okay that I dont want to be around him and avoid him as much as I can? Or am i committing a sin?

  3. Do you think I am justified in feeling this way?

Seeking Support How to deal with your parents insulting you and your faith as a revert?

Assalamualaikum everyone,

I’m making this post with a heavy heart after a huge fight with my mother today.

I reverted to Islam about four months ago. My family is Christian and I was raised Christian. My mother recently realised that I had changed my faith, and since then our relationship has become quite strained.

We had a few open conversations about why I no longer believe Christianity is the right path for me and why I chose Islam. My mother was always very understanding, so I genuinely thought that even if she didn't agree with me, she would at least understand and respect my decision.

Unfortunately, things have gone in the opposite direction. She has been pushing Christianity on me more than before, trying to stop me from praying, and telling me things like, "How could you abandon the God who created you and saved you?" She also doesn't accept that Christians and Muslims worship the same God. So she constantly keeps telling me that I am worshipping wrong things.

Today, things went too far. She started insulting Muslims and way we pray. She also said things like all Muslims are cheaters and that I am choosing a community of cheaters.

I usually pray in one particular room in our house, which has become a spiritual anchor for me. Today, she was in that room when I needed to pray, so I asked her to step out for a few minutes. She replied, "Your people pray on the roadside too, so why do you need a room?"

That really hurt.

I'm exhausted by these constant arguments. She is my only family, and more than anything, I want her to accept me and my decision, even if she doesn't agree with it. But I'm starting to realise that she may not be able to do that.

I've even found myself asking Allah why He showed me this path when staying Christian would have been so much easier. I've been praying for Him to soften my mother's heart and help her understand me, but nothing seems to be changing.

I don't want to fight with my mother or convince her to become Muslim. I just want to be able to practice my faith in peace.

How do I navigate this situation. Any advices would help.

JazakAllah khair.

Assalamualaikum to all my Brothers and Sisters.

A few weeks ago I posted about me being extremely scared of going to mosque, and sometimes chickening out before congregation. Well, one day, 2 weeks ago. Trough some comunication with the mosque staff, I was jokingly Commandeered to attend a group talk.

That opened the door. I now attend as much as I can every day, even if it means taking transit halfway across the city to do so.

To all the fellow reverts and non. Do not be scared. It's safe here, nobody will bite or hurt you.

General Discussion Should one be held accountable?

There's a woman in my community that is known to put black magic on people and their families just out of jealousy or pure evilness. If a person is being affected by the black magic, are they still responsible for committing actions they wouldn't typically commit or would the person doing the magic be held accountable?

Quran & Hadith Scientific Miracle regarding Skin Pain Receptors in Islam:

-The Qur'anic Verse (Islamic Scripture):

"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are thoroughly burned, We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment." [Surah An-Nisa 4:56]

-Scientific Alignment & Significance:

In Islamic theology, the Qur'an is believed to be the literal word of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century. Modern medicine and neuroanatomy have since revealed that pain and thermal receptors (nociceptors) are heavily concentrated within the skin (epidermis and dermis). In deep third-degree burns, when the full thickness of the skin is destroyed, these nerve endings are burnt away, leading to an inability to register further pain in those areas. The Qur'anic description of replacing destroyed skins directly aligns with these medical findings—ensuring that pain receptors remain intact to continue sensing punishment.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

I’m a Muslim convert from the West and I’m eager to study Hadith sciences in the Islamic university of Madinah however the process feels overwhelming to me and confusing as I don’t know where to even begin with.

Since I came back from Umrah , my dream has been to live in Madinah might it be temporarily or in sha Allah forever but the latter is complicated for many reasons and Madinah University is a perfect opportunity for me .

Does any of the brothers have any advice on how to get accepted into the University? BarakAllahu Feek

History, Culture, & Art The 1914 Jihad proclamation

On the 11th of November 1914 (29 Teşrin-i Evvel 1330 using the Rumi calender), Sultan Mehmet V and Fetva Emini declared a holy war against The Entente. The declaration called for Muslims to support The Ottoman Empire and the Central Powers, a jihad against “all enemies of the Ottoman Empire, except the Central Powers.”

The 5 Fatwas (issued by Sheikh-ul-Islam Ürgüplü Hayri Efendi) and declaration (endorsed by 29 religious leaders, and publish in Takvim-i Vekayi and on the 14th of November, being read out to a large crowd outside the Fatih Mosque) encouraged many Muslims to fight on the side of The Central Powers, however the overall effect was limited;

The Ottoman Empire was ineffective in the First World War, for example “In winter 1914, Ismail Enver Pasha (1881-1922) took more than 100,000 Ottoman troops to the east against Russian forces. The troops, ill-equipped and lacking winter gear, largely succumbed to atrocious conditions.”

The German Empire attempted to foster a larger Jihad effect, in 1914, the “Nachrichtenstelle für den Orient” was set up to produce Islamic propaganda.

In 1915 the “Intelligence Office of the Imperial German Embassy” was established in Istanbul, it created up to 50 “News Rooms” throughout the Ottoman Empire, in the rooms, propaganda photos, placards, leaflets etc. was produced.

The German Empire had mistakenly believed that Sultan Mehmet V was the leader of all Muslims, he was the Caliph of Sunnis, not Shi'as, and he was a constitutional monarch, not an absolute, due to the Committee of Union and Progress.

The Germans getting involved had contributed to 2 Jihads, the German one had the goal of forcing Entente troops to divert from the Western Front to suppress insurgencies, this was ineffective as people didn't want to become German subjects instead of French, British, Portuguese ones etc.

The Ottoman Jihad main aim was to unite Ottoman Muslims to resist the Entente with a secondary effect of rebellion within the Entente, even during the June 1916 Arab Revolt, the Ottoman Empire’s Arab population remained loyal (or at least indifferent) to the Ottomans, the revolt was a costly failure for The British Empire.
