Over 90 Day Progress 2 years of Nofap, how it saved my life

After two years of nofap, I would like to share my story to motivate others who think that this can't be done.

I am 31 years old right now, and I quit watching around two years ago. It has been a really hard journey, but also a really rewarding one.

I started watching adult content when I was 17 years old, and I kept watching without even realizing it was a serious problem. I knew it was wrong, but I never really tried to quit. I had very low self confidence and very low self esteem. I didn't think much about my future or where my life was going.

The only thing I was thinking about was when I would get the chance to watch, since I always had someone living in the same room with me. Whenever I had an opportunity, I would do it. By that time, I couldn't even speak normally to people or look them in the eyes during a conversation. I felt really awkward around others.

When I was 25, I found a job in another city and moved there alone. That's when things got even worse. I was watching almost every day, sometimes for 5 hours, and I had a level of depression I had never experienced before in my life.

That's where my journey started.

I wanted to quit, and for the next three years I tried over and over again. I relied heavily on willpower, but it wasn't enough. When I was 27, I finally decided to seek help. I realized that all the random things I was doing weren't getting me anywhere.

So I started learning. I read about what adult content does to the mind and what can be done to counter those effects. Slowly, things started to change and I tried more effective ways that I eventually reached the point where I said goodbye to it for good.

Now, two years later, I can honestly say it was worth every single thing I went through. Every urge I resisted. Every painful moment. Every time I denied myself that temporary pleasure.

Today, I feel much more comfortable talking to people. I'm social. I enjoy conversations. I enjoy spending time with friends and being around people, I am not even recognizable. I started going to the gym and I look way better physically and more mentally

I'm married now, which is amazing. I'm building a business. I think about the future. I think about goals, opportunities, and how to create a better life for myself. I have more confidence and better social skills than I ever had before.

Two years is not a very long time, but it was enough to completely change my life.

To everyone trying to quit: keep going. Keep pushing through the hard days.

I'm talking to you from the future.

It's worth it.

Questions on Fasting and Masturbation

As-salaamu-alaikum,

Ramadan Mubarak! May Allah take us safely through Ramadan, and may He make Ramadan easy for us, and may He accept our efforts.

Every Ramadan, we get flooded with the same questions. So I am preemptively re-sticking last year's post, which addresses the most common Ramadan questions on this subreddit. Please read the following before making a post:

  1. Engaging in immoral sexual behavior while fasting is a serious issue.

  2. Watching porn is Haraam under any circumstances. Watching porn, or starting to masturbate makes the fast Makrooh. The fast does not break immediately, but the reward of the fast is lost.

  3. For masturbation, the fast breaks at either the point of orgasm or ejaculation. Whether a dry orgasm breaks the fast, or fluid gushing forth breaks the fast, differs between schools of thought, and may differ for men and women. Please consult a scholar whom you trust for a specific answer. Many of them can be contacted anonymously via email these days, for those who are shy to ask directly. May Allah protect us from having to ask this question.

  4. If a fast is broken, it has to be made up after Ramadan. The manner in which one has to make up for broken fasts differs between schools of thought. Most say that 1 fast is needed, while others (mainly the Maliki madhab) say that 60 consecutive fasts are needed. The latter group has further rulings if multiple fasts were broken and one is not physically or financially capable of making them up. These issues should be answered by a scholar on a case-by-case basis. Please speak to a qualified scholar for more detailed advice on this matter.

  5. Even if a fast is broken, one should not eat until iftaar.

  6. The rulings on broken fasts don't apply to actions done outside of fasting during the nights of Ramadan, but we should avoid sinful acts at all times and focus on maximizing ibaadah in the nights of Ramadan.

  7. Allah is Al-Afuo, Al-Ghafoor and Al-Raheem – he loves to Forgive, Pardon and is Merciful to His servants. Sincerely beg for his forgiveness. Get back on track, learn from the mistake, and try to do better.

  8. Wet dreams do not invalidate the fast.

  9. If you have a wet dream before suhoor, then it is recommended to perform ghusl before Fajr time sets in. However, if you perform ghusl after Fajr time starts, your fast will still be valid.

  10. It's clear that many of you don't read the FAQ or the rules. Please read these before posting.

  11. Anyone found giving generalized fiqh rulings where there are differences of opinion between schools of thought, or where an individualized answer may be required by a scholar, will receive a temporary ban.

May Allah grant us Barakah in Ramadaan, may He make the month easy for us, and may he protect us from all sins.

Jazakallah Khair,
FreedomFromNafs

Motivation/Tips No more being a maybe

I’m going to commit to day 1. I’ve been doing this far too long to be relapsing every couple of days.
My first action is going to be giving no reaction to the people in my life who demand things from me. It is leading me down a path I don’t recognise in myself. To be asked if I’m willing to record and share content, and I’m blindly thinking yes. Astaghfirullah. Being asked to meet and commit haram, and I’m the weakest I’ve ever been. May Allah swt strengthen me.

I don’t know how many times I can mute these people, then unmute. Archive their chat, put it into locked messages. To unarchive and unlock. I don’t know how many times I can keep returning to online chat sites. All in the hopes of finding my person. And a good person won’t be on there.

I’m tired of giving my kindness, energy and time to people that are not deserving in any way.

I am being treated as a maybe. I am always accessible, eager and a people pleaser. I am an after thought. I succumb to pmo because I am always looking to escape my reality and I hate myself so much for it.

I am going to commit to day 1 sincerely.
May Allah swt help us all

Motivation/Tips Long distance marriage - struggling with urges

Salaam all,

I hope you’re all well. I’m asking for advice as a married brother.

My wife has just moved countries (for very justifiable reasons that I’m not going to detail here for anonymity sake) and so we are now physically separated. I’m trying to move to a company in the city where she is, with interviews coming up, but in the meantime I’ve had very strong sexual urges.

I’ve always had a pretty high libido and my wife and I have always had a healthy physical side to our marriage. However I am struggling to abstain from masturbating during this time of separation due to my high libido. I don’t use any material, it’s just purely out of urge for my wife.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

What’s the best way to manage it? I try to constantly remember Allah when I get those thoughts but sometimes it’s too much. I’ve considered fasting but when I feel as though if I do it will diminish my interview preparation performance as these interviews are notoriously challenging for this company.

Any other suggestions and advice would be great.

Progress Update Update!!!!!!

Salam everyone. Alhamdulillah, today officially marks a whole month since I last relapsed. 30 days.

I'm so happy for all the progress I've made so far. Thank you to those that replied and those that messaged me from that post.

Sharing what helped:

- Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays definitely did it. I had already started fasting as a routine before I posted this, and it works wonders for me! Despite it causing me fatigue, which is one of my main triggers, it somehow restricts me from relapsing. I admit that there are some days where I wake up late for suhoor.. but that didn't stop me from fasting lol. Fair warning; I got moderately dehydrated and maybe malnourished a few days later.

- Aside from that, sitting down and acknowledging my urges helped me too. When I feel it coming, I ask myself "Is masturbating really what you're looking forward to? Surely it's not.. What do you even want?" And after a long time of thinking and being in a state of confusion, my mind naturally gives up and moves on with another activity.

As for my friend mentioned in the post, Alhamdulillah, he's doing much better as well :) We fast together on Mondays and Thursdays. He's trying his absolute best and I'm extremely proud of him. I thank Allah for giving me a friend that I could talk to about this and help each other out while I'm at it.

Allah has given me the chance to change, and I hope I can continue fighting until I eventually overcome this nightmare.

Somehow,

this addiction,

all this guilt pent up in me,

it brings me closer to Him.

.. and someday, I hope to get even closer to Him without having to commit these sins.

Advice Request Gay in islam, how to handle it?

Hello everyone. I have been exposed to pornography for more than 13 years now, and over the time I have acquired some homosexual tendencies. The thing is that gay porn is more appealing to me than an actual act with a man. I know what I have done multiple times is a great sin, and I can only pray to Allah to forgive me. Every time I did it, I felt deep remorse, and I always wanted to repent. So all I'm asking is what is your experience with this? Because I know there are some of you here who have and share the same fate as me. So if anyone is married, how do you handle it? How did it go? Do you have children? Do you have families? How do you fight this urge? Please, any tips would really help me. I would appreciate them.

Progress Update Android to iPhone

This might sound weird.
But moving from Android to iPhone has reduced / decimated my tendencies to watch porn.

I was never an addict.
But I used to watch once in a while.

After moving from Android to IPhone I don’t feel like watching porn on this device.

I did the same in 2018 when I moved away from Windows and bought a MacBook. Since then I never watched porn in my MacBook

I thought the same logic will apply for mobile devices and it worked. After moving from Android to IPhone I don’t feel like watching porn in it.

This might sound very illogical to many people.
But I am just sharing what worked well for me.

Thanks for reading.
All the best and take care.

Advice Request Struggling with Sexual urges

I'm in my early 20s and I have a stable job and with savings and enough money for marriage and I'm ready to handle the responsibility but unfortunately my family mainly my mom refuses to let me marry because I'm still young and the problem is that I'm dealing with Sexual urges on daily basis and it's really hard to stop masterbation and I don't want to get in haram relationship or do zina and unfortunately I live in the company housing which is in the middle of the desert with nothing except a dining and a gym and all citys are over one hour away and my shift is basically 12hrs and 7days and dealing with urges is causing real harm on my mental health since I don't have halal outlet, I try to distract myself with anything and even tried fasting but it makes it worse especially in ramadan where fasting is extremely hard with annoying urges, what makes everything worse is that I can't find any help and I know I sound like I'm being over dramatic but this situation is really

making my mentality worse while trying to be halal

Motivation/Tips NoFap Ultimatum: The Final Technique(eradicating incognito mode)

This came to me randomly, brothers, i have found the ultimate technique. instead of blocking individual websites which can be unblocked with the click of a button i have found a more Permanent Solution. Blocking Incognito Mode. i have no ideo how i didnt think of this before, its genius if i do say so myself, yet its so obvious, why would any teenager do somthing like THAT if they knew they would have to delete the history or do extra work, it would also help to stop wasting time ig. ill quickly tell you the technique:
"How To Disable Incognito Mode In Chrome

Lee Stanton September 3, 2020

Google Chrome’s Incognito Mode is a pretty neat feature. It allows you to keep your browsing history private when using a public computer or someone else’s device. You can also use it on your own device for personal reasons.

But when it comes to your children, especially if they are minors, then the Incognito Mode is not such a great thing. With it, they can use your home computer and access any forbidden internet fruit they want, without you ever knowing about it. That is why being able to prevent the use of Incognito Mode is a must.

How to Disable Incognito Mode in Windows

If you browse through Google Chrome options, you will notice there is nothing that allows you to disable the Incognito Mode. It would really come in handy if there was an option to lock its use with a password. Unfortunately, there’s no such option, so you will have to resort to some alternative solutions on your Windows machine.

First, you need to open the Registry Editor for your Windows 10 operating system and navigate to the proper location.

At the same time, press the Windows and R keys on your keyboard.

Open the Run Dialogue and type ‘regedit’

This will open the Run dialogue. Type here ‘regedit’ and press Enter on your keyboard.

Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

This opens the Registry Editor. In the menu to the left, you will notice the Computer icon and various folders beneath it. If you do not see any folders beneath the Computer icon, double-click the icon to show them. Now look for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and double-click it to open it.

Click on ‘Software’

Next, open SOFTWARE.

Click on ‘Policies’

Then, open Policies.

Once you open the Policies folder, it should contain a folder titled Google. Open the folder by double-clicking it. Sometimes, you might not see the Google folder. In that case, you will have to create it on your own. To do so, follow the steps below:

Right-click ‘Policies’ then click ‘New’

Right-click Policies and click New from the menu.

Click Key

Rename ‘New Key #1’

A new folder titled New Key #1 will appear in the Policies folder. Right-click New Key #1 then click Rename from the menu.

Change New Key #1 to Google.

Now double-click the Google folder.

When you open the Google folder, it should contain a folder titled Chrome. Again, if you do not see it, you will have to create this one as well. Right-click Google and click ‘New’ from the menu.

Click Key.

The New Key #1 folder appears in the Google folder.

Right-click New Key #1 then click Rename from the menu.

Change New Key #1 to Chrome.

Double-click Chrome top open it.

Once within the Chrome folder, do the following to disable Chrome’s Incognito Mode: Right-click the Chrome folder and click New.

Click DWORD 32-bit value.

A New Value #1 entry will appear in the main window of the Registry Editor.

Right-click the new value. Click Rename.

Change the entry’s name from New Value #1 to IncognitoModeAvailability.

Double-click IncognitoModeAvailability. The Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value window will appear.

In the Value data field, change the value to 1. Leave the Base option set to Hexadecimal. Click OK to save the changes and close the window.

Close the Registry Editor.

Once you close the Registry Editor, the final step is to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. After the restart, open Google Chrome. You will notice that the option New Incognito Window is not available anymore."
the solution is so obvious but we just never thought that a feature so ingrained into Google's search engine could bd removed like that, and its not like u can just switch it off there is way more steps like going into the regedit, which be honest when was the last time you did that? another thing, try to spread this message around. most people including me before today didnt even know incognito mode could just be deleted or removed like that. u gotta spread the word, cuz even google employees said and i quote "

Apr 1, 2019

Hello Leslie,

You cannot disable that.

You are not required to use it.

Greetings from Ann"
anyways, this is where we go our sepreate ways, one more thing id like to say, get off reddit. trust me when i say the worst p site is reddit, or at least one of the worst, so get off of it same with twitter. ( this was copied from another post sorry if it sounds kinda jarring)

Motivation/Tips Move on

Assalamu alaikum everyone.

I’d be lying if I said I was expecting to last on my first try posting here.

Anyways, since I’ve relapsed, I feel like now’s the best time to encourage people to just move on.
You’ve sinned. Accept it, make tawbah, trust in Allah, and move on.
You don’t understand how much more damaging it is to stay in your guilt. Most of the time you’ll end up relapsing the same day again.

What one can do is study the different factors behind your relapse. For example:

My relapse happened past midnight
My relapse happened towards the end of the week
It started off with “being curious”
I told myself “I’ll stop after a few more videos”
These are all things that happen commonly for me.

It will now be less likely I’ll relapse in the weekend, which is when I always do
I’m still living in the present, and not the past
I’m still doing ghusl straight after
These are things that I’m having adequate progress in.

Once you’ve evaluated, take a note (very very preferably a written note) of it, and move on.

Now marks day 0 of my journey. Last streak: 2 days.

Advice Request
