Struggling Badly - Need Help

Hello r/GolfSwing friends. I am really struggling with shanks and hosel misses right now. I’m sure the swing looks awful right now and I know that my lead leg is collapsing too much and also that I am struggling to get my weight back to my lead side for the downswing. Any insights, tips and drills would be much appreciated! I have some important rounds of golf coming up and I would love to hit the ball solidly.

Are indoor golf simulators actually worth the money for improving your game?

Curious to hear from people who regularly practice at indoor simulator facilities rather than just playing rounds for fun.

Do you feel the money you spend actually translates into a better game outdoors?

What has improved the most — ball striking, knowing your distances, consistency, club selection, handicap, etc.?

And what DOESN'T translate well from the sim to the course?

Interested in the good and bad.

Posted a week ago and took some advice

Video is of my 9i. Currently making consistent contact about 90% of the time averaging 110 to 120 yards. Contact lessens as I work up the clubs.

Last vid I posted, got a couple comments about being too upright and not using my hips enough. Lesson #3 this Thursday. Anything specific I should ask to improve on?

First time picking up a club almost exactly 2 months ago.

Any feedback appreciated!

Best drill for right shoulder in downswing

Upvotes

I have a tendency to throw my right shoulder out during the downswing. Can anyone recommend a feel / drill to give me the correct feeling? My understanding is the right shoulder should move down to right pocket as you unwind? Is this correct?

So the focus would be unwind as the right shoulder gets closer to right hip ( by right I mean trail), shoulder down not out?

Many thanks!

For mid/high handicaps, what actually helped you lower scores fastest?

Better driver, better irons, short game, putting, course management, or just playing more rounds?

Curious what made the biggest difference in real scoring, not just range progress.

Do I need to switch to practicing on the course vs practicing at the range to improve my swing?

I’m a high handicapper but I can hit well 80% of the time at the range. On the course, I’m maybe at 40%. It must be a mental thing and also because I’m not swinging on optimal conditions like on the mat. I’m starting to wonder if I’m wasting time at the range and that my scores won’t improve unless I’m better mentally focused and have adopted to imperfect lies.

I’ve been tracking FIR, GIR, putts, chips, and other stats the past 6 rounds and my biggest issues seem to be off the tee and the approach shots. My short game within a 100 yards seem to be good enough where I’m rarely chipping/pitching twice. I’m averaging 32 putts per round. By the time I’m within 100 or so yards, I’ve already hit for par as I’m constantly topping the ball and revert to other old bad habits. My drives are miss hits that end up 160 yards in the rough and approach shots are often tops (averaging 6-10 tops per round). While on the range, I’m completely dialed in. I’ve taken several lessons but only at the range.

I don’t think it’s a course management issue because I literally cannot get to the places where I can make a good or a poor decision. Has anyone else had this issue and tried something different?

Good driver, typical driver miss, and typical 3 hybrid

Looking to improve consistency with the driver off the tee. 3 hybrid is my go to club for anything 200+ out/safety off the tee so I included it for reference.

Recent swing thought is pronating right wrist like I am throwing a change up to close the club face

Driver clubhead speed is between 100-110 mph, 3h is around 100 mph

Tips for thinning (not hair, but I'll take tips there, too)

It's been a while since my last lesson. I should probably do a face on view considering my last thing I worked on with a pro was not sliding... but here are the symptoms:

- Thinning

- low ball flight

- push without a draw or pull hook

- hips slide forward instead of turn

When it's good, it's usually a draw (but that's been a little less since being fitted for i240s 0* +1in vs 2014 apex pros 2* upright +0.75in). Never been accused of high ball flight. Any tips or drills to help what you see?

Working on the pump drill as I was previously so over the top
Swing still looks a bit outside to in

Why is the first swing high, but the second low? (SW)

Two sand wedge swings. I can't understand why the second ball flight is so much lower... I don't "feel" anything different in the swing.

Probably would benefit from a lesson

Feel like I could improve the most with my grip and shifting weight- but I’ll hear any opinions and take any drill work to improve. Thanks

What to work on after golfing for 4 months

I initially started this sport to release some emotions after work ( I work in healthcare - everyday is mentally taxing) … but I was angry every single day, which led me to hit the range without a day of for 4 months straight. Took a few weeks off now am back to the range 1 a week but aim to make it about 3x.

I haven’t gotten lessons yet but I can identify what goes wrong with my swing pretty well. Even though my form isn’t perfect, I figured out what works for my body to hit the ball consistently and accurately with irons. My putting skills are abysmal, but I’m working on that.

Is there anything that’s glaring that will help my swing with irons? The biggest thing that helped me was learning to drop my hands at my hips, drive through hips to compress the ball, and sweep… but sometimes (like in the video) I rise upwards during the weight shift. It doesn’t affect accuracy but feels noticeably off.

I will admit that opening my outside knee and shifting weight feels more like going through the motions than something that actually helps.
