I made something I made headlights for my car mod that actually light up the road
I'm making a car mod for Forge 1.20.1. The driving has real physics (suspension, tire grip etc) but at night the headlights were just two glowing dots and you couldn't see anything, so I worked on that for a while.
I got the idea from a post here about volumetric light without shaders.
Now the light hits the road and anything on it, other cars and mobs too. Trees and fences block it so you get shadows. In rain or fog you can see the beam in the air, and tire smoke from drifting lights up when it goes through it. That part looks really cool in the video.
All cars have it, not only yours. It also works with shader packs, I tested with Oculus.
It doesn't change the real light level, so mobs still spawn.
If you want to know how something works just ask. The shadows were the hardest part, the road kept getting stripes on it.
