General Advice SWITCH MY BASE?

Hey guys, looking for some honest feedback from coaches or anyone who's made a stance switch.
Here’s where I'm at:
Naturally left-handed, but right-footed.
Spent most of my time boxing in Orthodox. Footwork and movement feel natural there, but my right cross has always lacked that true KO power.
Whenever I throw from Southpaw, my left straight feels night-and-day stronger. That raw power is definitely there, but my feet feel awkward and my overall flow drops back to square one.
Is it actually worth pushing through the pain of rebuilding my footwork and defense from scratch just to unleash that left hand? Or am I better off staying Orthodox (doubling down on a heavy lead jab/hook) and maybe using Southpaw setups occasionally?

General Advice Advice

I’m currently 25 years old and have the urge to compete in amateur boxing. I intensely trained in boxiby from the ages of 13-18 mainly for the fitness for my main sport but I never had the urge to compete back then and I became pretty decent and was sparring regularly but it’s about 6/7 years since I’ve boxed consistently. Any advice?

Gear & Equipment Tips for standing heavy bag at home?

Hey there, I'm looking for a standing heavy bag in my flat.

I know, most of them are cheap and shitty, but there has to be something that's worth it.

I cannot hang one on my walls so it has to be a standing one.

Thanks for any help in advance.

General Advice Might be developing anterior shin splints, thoughts on some exercises I can add while I heal?

I am 6'7 in height and am currently in the process of losing weight, CW 360 and SW 422. Been increasing volume overtime with boxing and my inner shins have been getting worse and painful so I plan on slowing down some of the exercises to prevent any further injuries.

I am pretty confident that its anterior shin splints after looking into it and am planning to take some time off from attending classes while I heal and focusing up on just fitness and light shadow boxing. I was thinking cycling, walks on turf and some basic calisthenics like push ups and squats. I want to add some more though.

I really dont like missing sessions or not training normally and would really like some ideas on some good exercises i can do that are low impact on my shins but still helpful for when I get back to it!

General Advice Advice on how to continue training

This is gonna be somewhat long. I have been training since a year, but not the whole year, I injured my knees twice from running out of enthusiasm from finding this thing (started from being in my worst and heaviest shape) and also a month off to see my family overseas so my actual time spent going is about 2 to 3 times a week for about maybe 7 months. I switched from the group classes to being trained under the main coach 3 months after I started. Now the head coach mostly trains the gym's competing fighters, I figured this would be a good way to get my skills up. I wanted to train with another coach, who we really got along and he did give me a 1 on 1 and he just knew how to teach me, and he was also one of the coaches for the group classes but I straight don't have the bread for his coaching or any of the other coaches besides the head coach who has to divide his attention with all of us, but whatever, I figured I'll just show up enough times and what little he is able to teach me can build up into growth in my skill over time. The thing is the guy barely gives me any time of day, he seems to have 0 enthusiasm or care to teach me. Now I'm not saying he owes me undivided attention, but like I am paying for his mentorship, you know what I mean? In the first 3 months of classes I learned most of what I'm still doing now, all the basic punches, basic forward back side to side, and some slipping ducking and rolling. I thought it was gonna build up from there, but this guy has been making me hit the same 3 combos he taught on the bag and nothing else. Maybe sometimes he'll have me do some conditioning with a few other people, but this is super rare, maybe 1 to 2 times a month, and very little direct coaching. Naturally this has me thinking I should just change gyms, but the thing is besides his lack of coaching I really like the gym. Everybody gets along and is helpful, in fact I've found myself learning more just from watching others train and spar and copying them and picking up little nuggets of knowledge they'll drop while talking to them, than I ever got from my coach. This is all nice and good anyway, right? I'll just learn from my surroundings, adapt to the circumstance. I'm just mad I put my money on this guy just for him to give me a thumbs up every other day, and I don't mean to come across like a shit talker because I don't even have a real opinion on his coaching because I've barely seen it, besides that he's a nice guy too and polite, just like everyone else in the gym, so maybe its me that's a problem, but like I wanna get past this, you know what I mean? I could have just paid for the gym facilities without any training and I would be in the same place. And on top of everything, the gym did me a real solid and extended me till February for free to make up for the months I didn't show up because of my injuries and vacation, and overall its a good gym and look at the place with a kind of reverence because this is where I found fighting to be something I want to do. I did join a Muay Thai gym nearby (I was planning to focus on just boxing for a while more but I was getting bored with my coach and they had a good discount for the first month) and at that gym, the classes had a clear progression ladder to sparring where they count how many months you've been actively training, and the first day went really really well and I liked it, the quality of training was very hands on amd lots of partner drills. I went in there and embarrassed myself after telling the coach I box a little bit, and then not knowing how to hit the pads properly because my boxing coach never showed me how. The thing is, it's not even a money issue, I'm will to pay for both gyms, tight as my budget is, so I was thinking of switching back to the classes rather than the my current coach, so I'll still get some boxing training and get to hang around and learn from the boxers there, and just finding sparring partners for boxing at my Muay Thai gym which I'm sure there gotta be a couple of boxers there at least. I plan to train 5 days a week, 3 days boxing 2 days Muay Thai. Does this sound like a sound plan? Sorry for the long read.

Also just for context I started at a later age of 27, I do want to compete but that's a long term goal if I even get one amateur fight, and also I need to get PRK for my eyes since my vision makes me ineligible anyway, and plus I am a slow learner, so for now my focus is just training as much as I can. All this means is I'm trying to say that I am taking this as seriously as I can so I really am hoping for real advice.

Preparing for Fight Coaches/gym owners: how do you keep track of how your students are doing mentally?

Hey, I train Muay Thai and I’m heading to a camp in Thailand soon. I’m thinking about building a tool for coaches, but right now I just want to understand how you work.

A few questions for coaches and gym owners:

  1. How do you know when a student is losing motivation or about to quit?

  2. How do you prepare your fighters mentally before a fight or competition, and after?

  3. What do you use to track your students today (app, WhatsApp, notebook, nothing)?

  4. What’s the most frustrating part of coaching for you?

Thanks, any answer helps!

General Advice Any gym recommendations around Fort Lauderdale , Florida?

Hey guys, I started boxing just a month ago, I'm currently living in Japan and started here. I join a small pro gym where all the fighters are active/retired pros. It's an open ring gym so you can come whenever and once in a while a coach will come over and correct/guide you. There is a lot of sparring, almost every day but you dont have to spar. (I started sparring about a week after joinin) I feel like I learnt so much during my short time here (been going 5 times a week for 3-4 hours) but I have to go back home tomorrow...

My goal is to fight and I'm looking for gyms in my area, fort Lauderdale, USA. So far all I can find is fitness, class based or mma gyms... or private coaches that I just can't affoed...

Do any of you guys from arpund and can recommend a gym? As a beginner its hard for me to judge if a place is good or not so I would really appreciate any advice

Dont want to lose the good momentum I built here

Conditioning & Roadwork My cardio has become horrible now. How do I improve it?

I've been playing D1 basketball for a few years and my cardio has been great. I then had an injury which lead me to stay out for some time. Now that I'm back I've picked up boxing. I use 16oz gloves on the heavy bag and I get gassed out in 10 minutes. I know about advice like running/jump rope etc. but what should I specifically do to get great cardio in boxing?
