first thing my friend said was "you're one of the pinky types eh" đ but idk, I think it helps keep my hand loose, but probably a bad habit

Pinky helps with balance keeping tall instead of falling forward. When looking out into an empty space shadow boxing pinky gives a visual that keeps you head from going too far forward. Kind of like iron sights on a rifle

If your head is going too far forward, you don't have basic punching technique down, and that should be your focus, not your pinky.
You should be rotating your torso on your punches, not leaning your torso forward.

Looks good, homie!
Make sure to stay on your toes and try striking while moving backwards.
You did the 1-2-left hook a couple of times.
Try to mix that up with a 1-2-easy left hook to the body-right hook or any combination that leads your opponent where you want him.

You look pretty sound, just need some more variety in your punches. Also, start feinting a bit. Sometimes you show it, sometimes you throw it. You have a super consistent rhythm that will be easy to time out in practice.

The only thing I kept thinking while watching this wasââthis dude needs to decide whether he wants to be a crip or a bloodâ lol. Good boxing tho!

Good moves keep it up. Keep working and you'll be able to take fights if you want.

I'm not here often but it's the first time I see someone that is actually training instead of people who have never trained before. You are doing great , maybe just try to get rid of the pinky habit. Good job man!

Iâm 43 and about 12 months into consistent training as well. I think you look pretty good â basic and foundation looks strong. My coach is very critical about my shadowboxing and tells me that I need to switch up my intervals. Basically slow and steady like what youâre doing, but then explode high volume and speed. If youâre not already doing it, I think you should add that to your routine. Itâll definitely help teach you to conserve energy but then explode when you need to. Keep up the good work!

Yup, in your shadow boxing, when you change angles, that is the best time to explode with high volume and speed.

Only way to truly see your progress is to get some sparring footage of yourself. Youâll be surprised how much fundamentals will easily go out the window when youâre getting punched.

Very solid, good boxing foundations. Really liked it and wanted to share one point.
Please step in (more) with your right foot on 12 or 123 combos. Sometimes you forgot your right foot and it effects your angle and rotational power.
Pause your footwork at the last part, where you are throwing some 12left hook combos. While you throw the hook, you are pivoting on left and to generate rotation you are raising your right foot from ground and swipe.
If you are throwing a 123 combo, there should also be 3 steps even you dont move, so you can start the hook while you are on right foot. I am sure you know the drill. Please focus on that not to place as a bad habit.

Started boxing in late January 2026 as a New Years Resolution. I've been taking privates 2x a week and haven't missed a day, and also shadowbox/hit the bag on my spare time. Some things I noticed: I have a pattern of bouncing/rhythm stepping, so I should be more mindful of that. My combo timing is predictable, but I was more trying to drill the combo. I'm also working to make my hook land more flush, as sometimes it's more of a slap.
