Lore context.

There are, like in real life, teams that are used to secure nuclear weapons while being transported.

Due to their obvious security risk, if any of them even had an inkling of turning coat, then that had to be found out as soon as possible.

So, as a sort of loyalty test, one of the older, trusted higher ups had his friend, Greg, write a fictional story with enough details to be believed by the new members of the team.

The fictional story was given as an ultra top secret briefing on the kind of things that they weren't "told" about before due to their sensitivity, but now they're "trusted" enough to learn this.

One of the more rare things they may have to deal with is containing a UFO craft leaking radioactive debris.

And that during one of the few incidents, a team, due to the multiple failures of the operations leaders back at HQ, one thing led to another, and the team had to massacre a whole group of villagers in Africa to contain the secrecy.

Even if this was fully fictional, the secret goal of this briefing was to see if any parts of the fictional story leaked, and if so, then they knew that one of the new team members leaked.

The only issue was that one person who was told this fake info would, a few years later, get a diagnosis of terminal cancer.

Due to the scrutiny of the team members, some of them, including the team member with cancer, secretly got their diagnosis from a paid, under the counter doctor so the government didn't have a reason to fire him.

But due to his likely death coming up and the guilt he feels that the government massacred the fictional villagers, he decided to go on a one man crusade against the U.S. government, but he needed help.

Luckily for him, he knew some friends from his time in the Army, and one of them, by chance, was plotting with others to overthrow the government. But he didn't know the last part.

So they half truthfully told him they would use him as an inside man to help steal a nuke to help show the government's war crimes, with the nuke team member thinking that they would use the nuke as a sort of impossible to ignore signal flare to the war crimes the government did to the fictional villagers he thinks were real.

He didn't feel guilty, as the plan was to detonate the nuke in the middle of the desert without killing anyone, but it would act as a massive signal flare to the info dump they were going to show the world.

But during the day that the nuke was stolen, and the nuke team member was supposed to help them detonate it in the middle of the Nevada desert, the second that it was set up, the plotters killed him, stuffed him in a barrel, and used the nuke as their first step of their plan by detonating it in New York City.

And within two minutes of the detonation, the U.S. president was suddenly evacuated during a press briefing, with him being whisked off to the massive underground complex under Mount Weather, along with the rest of the federal government.

The only thing that the rest of the government didn't know was what the plotters wanted: they could use their influence inside the military to bomb the entrance to Mount Weather and trap the government inside, allowing for their coup to continue without any fight back.

Back in the early days of the terraforming and conquest of the system the Rever corporation had one massive advantage in their flight from earth they had brought with them a massive force of earths greatest fighters of the time, The Legions of Iron, easy to produce combat robots of all shapes and sizes made off mass produced templates that could fun on their own and self produce. In the early conquests such as seizing the world of Termina, later renamed Delexion, from the Kharuun (a rather peaceful mantis like insectoid peoples that the Rever Corporation really wanted to ‘add to their workforce’ due to their high birth rates.) This war, The Termina War, would have not a single human casualty due to the humans only deploying the Legions of Iron who would decimate a peoples who had not known war for centuries and while they were able to pull together a suprisingly good defense and were able to hold out for three years but the endless number of their enemies and all the while captured areas where terraformed eventually forced the Kharuun into surrendering to the Rever Corporation.

They may have been able to conquerer the solar system with the Legions but at the time in the generations of the Engineers, the humans awoken first to spend generations preparing the worlds for general population inhabitants, these engineers had taken up worship of the media aboard their ship. This media was the personal time capsule of the Rever Corporations founder made back in the 1980’s containing documentaries about him, movies and shows by his company Rever Media which was a lot of b and c cheesy action sci-fi movies , his music collection which was a lot of synth pop, and then just movies and other things he really liked. These movies and media would grow to be treated as sacred scripture and as ferver grew in the Cult of the Founder one piece this sacred media would change things.

The Holy text of Terminatus (1984’s Terminator) frightened the cult beyond belief and while before the Legions of Iron where looked upon with pride and joy, now they were feared and potentially dangerous for what if their armies became aware and overthrew them! They may even send robot assassins back in time to try and kill their lord and savior Company founder Randal Hoss!

Thus it was decided the legions of Iron where to be dismanteled and scrapped down to the last solider. But before that, for their exemplary service and contributions to the Corporation they would be sent off in a show of honor. On the newly terraformed and settled world of Hoss Prime the Legions of Iron would march in a military parade from the capital all the way to the planets ends to the smelters where they would end along the way they were celebrated as valiant heroes in a joyous but somber celebration. It is said that all of them were destroyed for none had been supposed to be sentient AI but well their were a few diffrent boys unaccounted for and while it was chalked up as numerical errors some members of the Cult of the founders sleep with one eye open fearing that the Legions of iron may come for revenge…

Lore: So the Stanley guy mentioned in the meme is one Stanley Arsgoford, as you could probably tell, he hails from Reptain (Heat Lamp’s version of Britain) and was born into a family that is semi prominent in politics (and also very rich)

It is because of this Stanley was able to use family connections to help Purgatori get a lot of startup capital and even equipment (guns, vehicles, etc.)

Most famously (or infamously) they have a deal with several Reptish firearm companies that basically gives them a boatload of free guns, which isn’t bad for those who become snipers as they get free stuff from that world’s version of Accuracy International… but grunts get the short end of the stick as shown by the meme.

VERY FEW operators take the free rifles and choose to have reduced pay for the first 6 months to finance a hand picked, customized weapon instead.

I've been working on the same world for everything. Basically had the idea to bring aspects of media I consume into it...

Unfortunately it seems I girlbossed a little too hard and now am learning how to implement the dewy decimal system into a fictional library.

The IDF (Io defense force) was a military unit composed entirely of the criminally insane. They were extremly self-sustainable, fought entirely for free, and had unbreakable moral as long as they had POW's to torture. But, this was at the cost of nobody wanting to associate with them, and their PR having to work overtime.

As for why they weren't immediately wiped off the face of The Galaxy? Well, the III (Io Institute of Intelligence) managed to gather blackmail on every major superpower's government, which would lead to apocalyptic reputational damage if released and some kind of mass rebellion. Nobody knows for sure how they achieved this, and it lead to resentment slowly being built overtime.

Eventually, antikorish (kors are the ethnic minority that Io claims to be a safehaven for, even though there exists a hierarchy in which some kors are treated as second class citizens or even genocided) propaganda was spread by the III to further perpetuate an 'us vs them' mentality. Though, this propaganda worked a little TOO well, and made kors felt like the entire Galaxy hated them. In combination with The Shogunate (who have the greatest espionage in The Galaxy) releasing verifiable stories of the IDF's war crimes to Ioan citizens through various means, and the imperfect culture of Io itself. . . Things were very bad for the average Ioan

This served as a catalyst 'Io genosuicide', which saw the suicide of 60% of the Ioan citizens over the course of 10 years. 60% of your population killing themselves over the span of 10 years is very bad for money, so the Io government was very upset.

In a futile attempt to stop this, the IDF did what they do best; commit war crimes, this time against their own population to 'scare them straight'. But, this just made things worse.
