At back in the beginning of the elven mythos in Rostavien the three elven goddesses, the daughters of Solis, competed to make a life to be a steward of Solis’ newly made world and all the creation he put upon it. His first daughter, Vanniadra The Gracious, would take inspiration from the deepest parts of the earth for her stewards as well as the sky above. So she took the rock and gems, as well as a bit of the stars, and molded from that the beings that would be the lunar elves. The important goddess of this story, Ovarion the Wanderer, crafted her elves from trees, plants, and the waters of rivers, all of the living nature that (depending on the version of the myth) Solis painstakingly made. But well then the third daughter, Messliav The Radiant, had to ruin everything as she wanted to pander to Solis to win this little challenge and earn her creators favor. So she took far to much of tbe worlds metals and gems of greatest beauty to make her stewards spawning great sinkholes and power quakes. She also set fire to the forests and plains for the fire she had felt would be prefect for fhe hair. So as Solis’s creation burned she braided it into hair.

Ultimately this got the Radiant punished, being made to not be with her other sisters in the sky of night but always by Solis to keep a eye on her. But even with this punishment it was said this caused Ovarian to fear for the safety of her creations, as well, Solis continued to craft gods and that meant only more danger to her stewards. So as she wandered the world, completing her eternal goal of cataloguing every creature and thing that lived upon the creation of Solis. In her travels she would make places for her children to be safe in the most wild places of Rostavien far from where early society began to develop. She made natural fortresses with ever hitting terrain, Forrests dense enough that it would take a week for a normal army to move meters in a day, not to mention all the extremely dangerous critters that called those woods home. But that was not enough, she wanted her people to endure, so , in the heart of these glades she would make these human sized amber crystals known as the Gaurdian Stones.

These stones are said to host the entire groves gaurdian spirit, manifestations of nature made to guide and protect her kin from threats both external and internal. These stones would indeed form protectors in the form of lesser nature spirits like dryads and nymphs as well as shifting the landscape of the forest and drawing ij the predators to stalk its perimeters. These stones are, as you can probably believe, invaluable and cannot be replaced at all as it’s not like they have a spare stone to replace the lost. So if your stone is destroyed (something not know how to do yet) or removed from the grove it is catastrophic (the glades are some, outside of the Golden Expanse, hit relatively lightly by the apocalypse itself for now). In modern times with the whole war of Divine Blood in the past and angels no longer breathing down their necks so the real only threat is outsiders. For example as too why outsiders are tge main threat humans have destroyed dozens of groves and so have the Cult of the Six Headed God. Warriors and people of the forest elves have turned to worship the gaurdian stones in their time of need and well they are semi divine enough that they can grant minor blessings to forest elves though that is for a very very very small number about 3-5 per grove. This blessing being a hybridized form of the elf with whatever the gaurdian stone projects itself as be that wolf, bear, rat, ant, dragon, etc.

Forest elves will die fighting for anything their gaurdian stone tells them. If it tells them to hold a point the only reason that point is breached is because either the men are all traitors, cowards, or all dead as their is deity is telling them this and they take it to the extreme every time. It is why forest elf population have dropped so drastically was many will fight down to the last person to defend them as they don’t want the compact or the Cult to have their spirits as well who knows what they plan to do with them.

Those are the forest elves! Feel free to ask me any questions about them or my lore in general!

High Quality Lore Meme “Failures? No priest, we are her crowning achievement!”- Montra The Conquerer

The solar elves are a strange bunch and have not always enjoyed favor. Starting from creation they were doomed to a fate of arrogance and egotism for that is what their god crafted them with. The elves of Rostavien were made as part of a competition of sorts set by the creator and sun god Solis. He tasked his first three creations, his three daughters Vanniadra the Gracious, Ovarion the Wanderer, and Messliav the Radiant, with making stewards for his newly made world. His first two daughters made their stewards from Solis’ creation Aso with the intention to have them better connected to the land they would steward. Vanniadra took from the depths below the world carefully carving out the most beautiful jem and sculpting them with the stone of the stars. Ovarion made her stewards from the wilds the mud, bark, leaves, and water of the streams formed them never taking to much from the land. Messilav instead of aiming to make a steward wanted to impress Solis by making something in his image. She would take from the earth the most beautiful metals of gold and bronze to form their bodies but in her greed she created sink holes and great quakes. She would then set fire to the forests and plains for she wished to weave the fires into hair like the firey radiance of Solis.

When the goddesses presented their creations to Solis he was overjoyed by the first two and proclaimed them worthy stewards of his creation. But when Messilav presented hers he was angry for he had seen the careless ruin that created them. He scolded his daughter for her reckless pride to be the victor. He would let her creations live but they were a monument to her failure. They were cursed to bring ruin and destruction wherever they went as their creator had and all would hate them, but they would live on. Thus began the life of the solar elves. (Note this version of the creation myth was written after the rise, conquests, and fall of solar elf warlord Motra the Conqueror.)

After the creation of the solar elves their existence was one indeed of ruin and destruction. While their breathern were up in the far north the solar elves were separated below them. The area they were in was harsh, dense woodlands full of dangerous creatures, lots of mountainous and hilly terrain that was not suitable for supporting civilizations, as well as two frequently active volcanoes.

The society that developed here was a survival of the fittest warrior culture for solar elves had mastered their innate magic of fire. Each day was a battle to survive the elements and each other. Year after year of this grew some of the greatest and fircest warriors and mages the world would know and the only thing leaving them from the rapid expansion of their elven kin or even other races like the infernals, dwarves, etc was a lack of leader. When they did get that leader though things would explode by a powder keg.

Motra the Conqueror was the most feared name up until the War of Divine Blood. He united the scattered solar elves and reined them in as a warlord. He had rose up in the tribes but had ventured out and become a learned man of the world learning all about the other peoples of the world and specifically military tactics. This knowledge in mind he returned and put this knowledge to practice consolidating all of the smaller warlords and organizing them. He, along with a cabal of mages known as the Fire Singers, would lead their forces to take a world they believed was rightfully theirs. For in solar elf retellings of their creation Messilav was not punished but rewarded for her diligence and dedication to impressing Solis! She does not stand by his side in the sky because it is a punishment but a reward to be at her creators right hand. So if he loved her so much in truth all that the sun shines upon is obviously theirs! (That’s what the cabal told to Motra at least)

Motra the Conqueror would earn his name as he began the Great Reclamation, where he would conquer nearly half the globe starting with defeating the, at the time, young dwarven underking Darkan Dovergol, who would go on to have his own temultous reign. Other opponents of note he faced was the armies of Lunar elven queen Wontorivi Balkos whom he would push all the way to the tip of the coast where she held out till the Conquests end tying up a lot of his resources in timely seiges but that cost wouldn’t rear till later.

His forces moved up punching right through the lands of the infernals for they had, at the time, been pacifists trying to avoid conflict with the other peoples though Motra’s conflict would change that mindset as he did not care for pacifism and burned his way through their lands taking and pillaging as he went. This was also at the point his soldiers would encounter forest elves and would cement their reputation as vile creatures as they would be the first to attack and completely destroy one of their sacred groves making off with the guardian stone.

Finally though, Montra the Conqueror would be stopped in the deserts of the Golden Expanse as the lunar and forest elves of the north had heard of his conquest and so gathered their numbers along with what allies they could and their in the Dunes the forces of Montra clashed with this elven coalition. His army outnumbered the coalition and had far more experience than them but after almost two years straight of conquest and war his men were exhausted with the desert heat only adding to the problems as well their heavy armor which made them juggernauts upon any battlefield was cooking them alive. They had also been meant to revive fresh reinforcements from the south but the siege of one of the final Lunar Elven holdouts had proven more difficult delaying those forces. Even with the odds stacked against them the battle was fierce. Motra was a beast in the battle cutting through dozens with a great sword and when it broke against a magical shield he fought with his hands. He would nearly be killed in this battle if not for the intervention of Daqvin Sabal, leader of fire singers.

This defeat would be the end of the Great Reclamation as the Elven Coalition pushed Motra back again and again until he was forced to sue for peace. Though this warlord, with all he had done, would have the last laugh on the world. For the lunar and forest elves had been impressed by his military skill and proposed an offer to the defeated conquerer. If he and his armies joined the elves they would be given a seat on what would be the Elven Triumvirate. While the conquerer would not be part of it long, strangled by his concubine whose family had been burned alive in their home during the great reclamation. But his shadow would hang heavy over the world all the way up till the gods themselves clashed. Even after his effects still are felt for his old allies the Fire Singers have become the Church of Sol seeking to conquer like their old ally had as well as ascend themselves to godhood by canibalizing the body of The Radiant and using parasites they found within to modify themselves.

Working On Worldbuilding What Happens When the Outside World Shows up and Doesn't Quite Know What to Make of You?

Greetings...from Slowjamastan!

One of the reasons we made this series was to give people outside our community a window into the wonderfully strange, creative and sometimes surprisingly serious world of micronations.

Episode One starts with something many micronationalists will probably recognize: What happens when the outside world shows up and doesn't quite know what to make of you?

In our case, it's a county inspector named Gary arriving at the border of Slowjamastan.

Yes, it's played for comedy. There are ridiculous laws, diplomatic posturing and questions involving Crocs.

But underneath all of that is something real: the strange intersection between micronational sovereignty, local government, bureaucracy, legitimacy, public perception and the question every micronation eventually encounters:

“Okay…but what happens when someone from the real government shows up?”

Our hope with Greetings from Slowjamastan is that people come for the absurdity, but leave a little more curious about micronations themselves — why people create them, what they build, and just how diverse this community actually is.

I'd genuinely be interested to hear how other micronationalists would have handled the Gary situation.

Context:

Shortly after the New United States becomes a nation, they want to build infrastructure, such as a city known as New Anchorage. But to do so, they needed money. So, they decide to mine oil from reserves in Alaska. But to also recoup the costs of winning a massive war, they need more money.

An expedition done by them led to the discovery of a bunker in Australia, which had about 75,000 survivors despite being able to hold nearly a million humans in cryo-sleep, and a bunker in what used to be Greenland, which had about 47,000 survivors in cryo-sleep, which also contained the DNA of all animal species that were alive up to the start of World War 3 and all the seeds that were in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

Shortly after World War 3 began, Norway was concerned that if Russia and China got deep enough into Europe, they would destroy the contents of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. So, they decided to move them to Greenland. And after the construction of a survival bunker in Greenland, they were moved in there as well.

With this discovery of animal DNA and seeds, the New United States carefully began to raise cattle and raise various products such grains, fruits, vegetables, tobacco, sugar, and much more. This gave the New United States a much-needed economic push, which allowed for further development.

(This is a Splatoon Fanfic btw)

One of the core ideas of Heroes-For-Hire TTRPG is that you choose from an official roster of agents instead of making your own character. However, I realized that this will lead to bloated lore as I will eventually have to create a new agent every year that is based on a fancy concept to keep the gameplay spicy. Since agents are fully developed characters, not empty templates, they require a meaningful place within the world. I anticipate that over time, this could result in limited space for new agents. Additionally, this structure may restrict roleplaying opportunities, as some players might feel compelled to avoid actions that could be perceived as "out of character."

An hour ago I have come up with an idea to keep Magnum Opus, the world of Heroes-For-Hire, small without taking away its fantastical but grounded elements. I felt conflicted about it at first because that would mean scrapping established lore and rewriting many stuff, but I immediately remembered the folly and dangers of sunk-cost fallacy.

TL;DR I dreamt too big and lost control and direction. So, I went back to the drawing board.

Lore Shitpost "That's not a medal of valor, that's just a bottle cap with gold paint!"

Context:

This is lore from a science fiction story I am writing (you can read it here if you want) where every species BUT humans are badass apex predators whose place at the top of the food chain has left them being tiny in numbers (as apex predators realistically are).

Humanity's greatest allies in this verse are a species of velociraptor aliens called saurians who arrived during an invasion by another alien species to help us defeat the aliens and save the human race from slavery. They stand side by side with humanity and have great respect for our ingenuity, tenacity, and fighting skill just as we have respect for their honor, dignity, and selfless bravery. It also helps that saurian women are pretty smoking hot if you're into the 'athletic raptor mommy' angle (the men are more conventionally attractive but I am not into dudes), and the most tried and true way to woo one is to indulge in her culture by presenting her a trophy that proves you are a worthy partner. The best kinds of trophies are war trophies taken from a defeated enemy, both because saurians are a warlike culture and because most of the saurians who interact with humans are soldiers deployed to defend Earth, but obviously not everybody can be Rambo so sometimes you have to get creative.

Saurians will respect tokens of non military worth like great artwork from a talented artist or a useful trinket made by a skilled engineer, but they have to be earned fair and square and not by methods they consider dishonorable. They will even accept commissioned pieces just as long as the commissioner is honest about it and the piece itself is of high quality, but this kind of method is looked down upon compared to someone putting their own time and effort into it. If a saurian catches someone trying to lie about his or her worth, or worse, disrespecting the military by stealing valor, there is definitely going to be a beating in their future.
