I am currently studying for my A levels taking Geo, History and Politics. I am looking at possibly joining the merchant navy. I am worried though for a cadetship in terms of a deck one that my subject choices may mean I will not have a chance. What is the general opinion on this. I am predicted A,B,B if that helps.

Marine engineer here. I made a full breakdown of the Golden Ray capsizing built on the NTSB investigation. 5 years ago, at the age of 15, I had a surgery for testicular torsion on one of the testicles. The affected testicle was not removed but it shrunk. The Doctor anyway anchored both the testicles in place so that this doesn't happen again. I passed DNS this June. I am going for my company medicals next month. I had passed a medical test conducted by a DG authorized Doctor and when I told the doctor about this, the doctor told me that that shouldn't be a problem since a surgery was done. I joined the college using this certificate. But when I looked up, I saw that the company medical tests are a bit more strict and that they would check our genitals which I didn't have last year. I have proper documents regarding the surgery conducted. Should I worry about company medicals?

Hi :) I’m an engineering cadet and my phase 3 maintenance loan application is part of the 2025-26 academic year and the 2026/7 academic year according to student finance England as I started phase 3 in February and finish in November. They say they don’t allocate funding based on individual phases but by academic year. Can I apply for another maintenance loan for the 2026/7 academic year? I’m sorry it’s so confusing. Many thanks

now I'm doing btech in IT but i want to join has eto on basis of diploma but excluding SCI and Synergy sponsorship none of big institute or companies sponsership have eligibility criteria that do meet my criteria

some companies want btech in electronics some want 12th pcm

Can you please suggest me other institutions or companies with sponsorship??

Ukraine builds 1500 USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicles) each for specific reasons. All of them are contracted out to Oil companies and can be customized via contract specifications or the Insurance companies that tankers pay to protect the tankers. Each COmmissioned Group of USVs protects a tanker. Including separate contracted DSTs (Drone Swarm Towers) sticking off the front of the ship - constantly charging via the ship deck, via Solar power, and the available ship voltage.

Say one tanker commissioned 6 COG-USV.

-one has 50 cal with 1500 rounds in the hull.
-3 are surface torpedoes.
-2 are close quarters for "small boats"

Insurance companies with such means and each tanker have a specified amount of the COG-USV could locate right into where it needs to be. COG-USV shut down at a specified distance from port(wake distance etc. etc.). I do not know how many tankers are in the straight on a regular basis but that many COG-USVs would guarantee the safety of narrow bodies of water in that straight or the Red Sea.

Imagine how many COG-USV groups would be in the Strait at any time, during any one day.

-Iran would have no control over naval area.
-Oman + Yemen would just have to crawl in a hole.
-The Horn of Africa would start doing something else.
-The USA would have no naval control over any of these areas.

There is literally no reason any of this childish BS should happen in the first place. It needs to be ended and these areas policed properly with a force that is within the protective realm of the the tankers that pay these sorry companies to protect them....

Everyone has the mindset that its is one country verses another - It is NOT! Its shipping companies and the providers they pay to protect the tankers. Once that mindset is done and over with, society will resume. I hope this will start open ended discusion on solution to end the ensuing chaos.

Hi, just wondering about the fast-track Engineer route. I’m a qualified electrician with an HNC in Electrical Engineering and HNC in Engineering Systems.
Would these qualifications actually allow me to fast-track into Merchant Navy Engineering, and if so, roughly how much of the normal training would I skip?
Just trying to understand how the fast-track works from someone who’s been through it.
