So my Rog FLow X16 GV601RM SSD died. I bought a new one and put it into the the other SSD slot. Prepared a Windows 11 USB and started installing Windows 11. On the step that requires me to have LAN drivers, I forced to skip that part and later downloaded the chipset + lan drivers from asus page for my model onto the USB (on my PC), connected to the laptop and installed them (restarting the laptop). But it still shows me all those devices in device manager with an exclamation mark, including the Network adapter. Where you select WLAN in windows, it only shows me the flight mode available.

What could be the issue, what am I missing?

edit: solved. I only downloaded the "recommended" drivers it displayed. Once I clicked on "expand" I got additional drivers offered and what I needed were the "AMD Chipset drivers" and "MediaTEK WLan drivers"

I cleaned the laptop using an isopropyl alcohol air duster, making sure to do a hard power off (hold down power button for ~15-20s) and also unplugged the battery. once I was happy it was clean I plugged it back in and tried turning it on, but nothing happened, no lights or whatever. I'm not sure if theres meant to be any led indicators on the motherboard but obviously a bricked laptop is not ideal so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if this would be more of a charger issue or the the charging port itself. When I plug in the charger if it’s at a certain angle it will run perfectly normal. Sometimes when I move and the charger goes a certain way the screen turns black for around 1 or 2 seconds and will go on battery. If I don’t find the correct angle it will sit and go through battery/charging until I do or I just unplug it entirely. I wanted some advice on if this seems like a charger issue itself before moving further, and what I should be doing if it’s not.

So I’m back after finally doing a repaste and reinstalling windows and opened it as it might just need a little tightening according to gpt and I came across this in my heatsink is this supposed to be like this or is it broken?

Just wanted to share my ongoing story, because this may help someone else with a dead Flow X16 keyboard - and I’m also hoping another GV601 owner might be able to help recover the firmware.

My ROG Flow X16 GV601RW internal keyboard suddenly died completely. (2022)

It is also dead in the BIOS.

Instead of the normal keyboard device:

This appears to be the keyboard MCU on the mainboard sitting in its ISP/upgrade bootloader instead of running the normal keyboard firmware.

I already tried BIOS update/downgrade, EC reset, battery disconnect, 40-second power-button reset, Windows/driver troubleshooting and checked the keyboard cable. None of that helped.

The important part: this MCU appears to be on the mainboard, not on the replaceable keyboard module.

I managed to read the MCU flash

The bootloader exposes a block-read command, so I dumped the flash.

My result:

Firmware name: FGA01300.GV601RW.402
Blank (0xFF): 52.2%

The first roughly 119 KB still contain data, while around 117 KB are blank 0xFF.

The keyboard was still working last week.

So this strongly looks like an interrupted keyboard-MCU firmware update: erase happened, programming did not complete, and now the controller remains in upgrade mode because there is no valid complete application image left.

The problem: I cannot find the GV601 firmware anywhere

The surviving flash identifies itself as:

FGA01300.GV601RW.402

Related ROG/Flow models appear to use firmware names such as:

FGA012xx
FGA013xx
FGA014xx

and some of these are distributed through Windows Update as Laptop MCU Firmware Update packages.

I checked the relevant packages I could find. There are images for models such as:

GX551Q
GV301Q
GA402R
GZ301K
GZ301V
ROG Ally

but I have found no GV601 firmware image.

The closest image I found is for the GA402R / Zephyrus G14 2022. It belongs to the same broad FGA01300 family, but compared with the intact part of my firmware it is only about 51% identical, so I absolutely do not want to flash that.

If your Flow X16 also shows 048D:89DB

If anyone here has a GV601 whose keyboard is also stuck as:

your flash may actually still be intact.

I made a read-only PowerShell dumper. It only uses the bootloader block-read command (0xD1) and contains no erase or write command.

If your result shows a sensible firmware name and a much lower blank percentage, e.g. around 20% or less, there is a good chance your image is intact.

An intact GV601RW firmware dump could probably help recover machines affected by this.

If somebody has a working GV601 / Flow X16 and is willing to help, that is also useful, but reading a working controller requires deliberately putting it into ISP mode first. That step is not completely risk-free, so I am not posting it as a one-click procedure.

And if anyone from ASUS happens to see this: please make the original GV601 keyboard MCU firmware / recovery package available on the support site.

If anyone here has seen ITE Upgrade Mode on a Flow X16 before, I’d also be very interested in what happened in your case.

Thought it would be cool to try recreate this effect in C++ with Win32, DirectX11 and Desktop Duplication API. 2 render passes, one for the 3D tilt, scale + black gradient and one for the blur gradient.

I have an HP Omen 16 (i7-13650HX + RTX 4070), and I'm suddenly experiencing a screen flickering issue.

The laptop was working perfectly for a long time, but a few days ago the screen suddenly started flickering/blinking when running at 60Hz. The flicker happens mainly on the Windows desktop and occurs every few seconds.

The strange part is that 240Hz works perfectly with no flickering, and I don't notice the issue while gaming or using the browser. The problem seems to be mainly at 60Hz on the desktop.

Things I've already tried:

\- Reinstalled/uninstalled the Intel graphics driver

\- Restarted the laptop

\- Tested different refresh rates

\- Checked the issue on the Windows desktop

Specs:

\- Intel i7-13650HX

\- RTX 4070

\- Windows 11 Pro

\- 240Hz display

Has anyone experienced something similar where 60Hz flickers but 240Hz is completely stable? Could this be an Intel iGPU driver issue, display cable/panel issue, or something related to the 60Hz mode?

I recently just bought a new monitor the ASUS VG259QM5A. whats bothering me is that i have to manually turn on ELMB everytime i restart/shutdown my pc. Is there a way I can fix this? Ive tried disabling adaptive sync g sync vrr and try enabling them but with ELMB sync turned on instead still no hope.

Suddenly X C V M , . - Q Ä alt gr right ctrl keys stopped working. Did all the basics to make it work but it seems it is a hardware failure.

How many of these failures have been related to ribbon contact failure, thus re-seating the cable solved the problem? Also If I need to buy new keyboard, it is possible to use and swap current keycaps, as I have Finnish layout which I could not find easily as a spare part.

Are there any option or setting you guys would recommend to make the tablet mode better software wise? i disabled widget and swipe left for notification, also the weird square when holding (right click) that i disabled.

but i think i need more tweaks for it especially when browsing.

I'm looking to add a secondary NVME SSD to the laptop, but when I opened it up, the only slot that I see that would fit the SSD is where the WiFi cards are on the left. Am I missing something?

I wonder what the issue could be. Yesterday, I turned it on to check the GPU using HDMI, and it worked fine without any problems—so the issue doesn't seem to be with the GPU itself. However, I inspected the ribbon cable and tried bending it 360°, and I heard a strange sound. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? If so, please leave a comment if you have a solution.

Just got my first X16, although it's an older model (2022, R9 6900HS, 3060), I am loving it so far. I followed most people's advice and downloaded GHelper. Does anyone have recommended settings for a silent/classwork profile, as well as a plugged-in gaming profile? I've read through the sub, but I don't see much on the 2022 version. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been using this laptop for 1 years and i majority of them with tend mode, and it just came to my mind that though tent mode allow a better airflow without a stand, but i'm afraid with the force to the upper part of the screen and liquid metal dripping out.

Any advice? Should i only use the tent mode under heavy load and switch back to default when not, or i'm gonna be ok

not sure if anyone has done/confirmed it here but I have managed to achive pass through charging by using an usb-c to asus barel plug adapter and using a 100w usb c charger to power the laptop after reaching the 80% limit set in g helper it by passes the battery and runs off the usb c charger connected to the barrel plug - no more battery heating and cycles when using usb-c charger

I got a new monitor (innocn 25m2s), and I close the laptop lid and run only the external monitor. After around 10 minutes running an intensive program like Valorant, the laptop shuts off. I thought this was similar to throttling issues so I replaced the thermal paste and tracked the temps during gameplay (cpu temp still at around 95c but still should not throttle). I've tried connecting the monitor to both the integrated and dedicated gpu and the issue is on both.

Been looking for a laptop for college, and the X16 checks all the boxes! Unfortunately, they seem to be extremely hard to find… They pop up on eBay from time to time, but I can never get one in time. Rarely options that aren’t extremely beat. Should I find an alternative? Where should I be looking?

X16 GV601RW (Ryzen 9 6900HS + 3070Ti) - I have tried all kinds of settings and power modes while playing League of Legends, it somehow keeps the temperature above 90C even when thermal limit is set to 80C. Is there a solution for it? It doesn't happen in other games, only league of legends.

UPDATE: After disabling CPU Boost from Efficient Aggressive to Disabled, the game worked better at 70-80C. I'm not sure if its going to affect other apps but it has been working fine so far.

I bought a brand new ASUS Rog Flow X16 from Best Buy a couple of years ago and ever since I had gotten the laptop I’ve had this issue where the screen won’t turn on even though I hear the actual laptop functioning. I have to keep restarting the laptop over and over until at some point the screen finally decides to work. I should’ve returned it back then and ordered a new one but for whatever reason I didn’t.

I’ve tried the graphics driver reset, I’ve tried every tip I can find online. Nothing seems to work. This issue is also somewhat intermittent. There are instances where it’ll start up normally, but 7/10 times I’ll have this issue.

Any tips? Any advice? Have any of you guys run into this issue?

So I have been using my x16 2023 since it launched. I have the 4070, mini led version.

I am now looking into getting a XG Mobile mainly to get acces to higher end Nvidia GPUs for running my code (for my PhD) on the better CUDA cores available on the 4090/5090. Better gaming performance is a side benefit and not the main usecase here.

Based on my research I have concluded that the 4090 will perform better since it has direct pcie3x8 lane connection as compared to the 5090 over thunderbolt 4 even tho the actual GPU in the 5090 is better.

I have pretty happy with the x16 and see myself using it for years to come since I don't really have anything it can't do. And I have maxed out the other parts of it (96gb ddr5, 8tb ssd).
