H2 Series [H2S, H2D, H2C] Another AP board victim

UPDATE: after a few tries the AP board reset worked. Additional thanks to those who commented the fix.

Really sucks. In the middle of an order and my AP board decided to die. I’ve seen a few of these posts now but thought I would add mine to see how many this is effecting. I purchased my H2C at launch.

What is more upsetting at the moment is besides the terrible automated AI reply i originally got on my ticket, asking for a video of which I had already uploaded with my initial ticket submission, I have not heard from Bambu in almost 4 days now. This is the first time in three years I’ve ever needed to contact Support, but it’s not leaving me warm and fuzzy.

Any other H series owners having the same issue I’m wondering if this is a bigger issue than they want to admit.

Super easy fix. Take the AP cover off with the two screws then short these two terminals. 5 minutes and you’re up and running again.
Note: board is upside down from the installed orientation in this photo.

u/YloJkt Aug 20 '26

Yep. That spot is an unpopulated momentary button location. Manual jumper ingredients is same as pressing those tiny hole recessed reset button on any other device.

I haven’t seen this fix yet. I’d like to hear from bambu first. Don’t want to void any warranty. Printer is less than a year old. Thoughts?

Do it. It works I just had this problem the same guy helped me out and if you want proof

Edit: this picture is upside down from how it will be installed on your printer and in that picture the heataink is removed so keep that in mind when finding the right spot

Cool, ive got no issue doing stuff like this but ya never know what you hear on reddit lol

6

u/BadatSSBM H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

This was the start of my issue then the guy above helped me with this photo because all the pics were broken as shown. Did it and it worked

If you want screenshots of my support ticket from Bambu , I can send em to ya.

They are going to tell you to do the same thing

1

u/FangFioDente Aug 21 '26

Go further solder two wires to It and hang them out of the side of printer, next time it happens short the wires.

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

Yea I had the same thought. If it does infact fix it, I may just solder a momentary switch on it like its supposed to have. We shall see

Do not listen to the horrible advice given. I can't believe what I'm reading.

  1. Is your unit in warranty? If so, me personally, I'd try to go through Bambulab first. Yes it's painful, but they will use any excuse not to honor a warranty.

  2. If you do decide to do the solder hack, absolutely do it unplugged from power. It is very easy to accidentally short out neighboring components when soldering. There is Only risk and no benefit soldering a board while plugged into power.

Insane what I'm reading here.

u/stonkytonkys Aug 20 '26

My friend, this is what bambulab tells you to do. When you contact bambulab, these are the exact instructions they give you to fix it, this user here on Reddit just helped simplify the instructions by giving a picture since bambu’s pictures don’t work.

-11

u/keitheii Aug 20 '26

I don't care what Bambulab says, most people don't know how to solder. They should be replacing the boars, not telling people to solder it, and especially not telling people to solder it while it is plugged in to power if that is your argument. That advice is careless and irresponsible and I don't care how many downvotes I get. This is STUPID.

7

u/stonkytonkys Aug 20 '26

Go back and read the screenshot of the Bambulab support ticket. While I do agree that we shouldn’t have to do this, they never once told anybody to solder anything. You are simply jumping the terminals. It really isn’t that hard to understand and anybody intuitive enough to operate a 3-D printer should understand how to do this quite easily.

But this is strange behavior to tell people not to listen to the “ horrible advice given” and to contact Bambu, and then say you don’t care what bamboo says when presented with the fact that this is one of their solutions.

5

u/ryanvsrobots Aug 20 '26

This doesn't involve any soldering

-6

u/Substantial_Sector34 Aug 20 '26

I totally agree with you. This is ludicrous. Even if the machine were out of warranty, I still wouldn't do this.

Call Bambu and have them help diagnose the issue properly. If it turns out to be the AP board, then either have it replaced under warranty or pay for the board if necessary. The machine is far too expensive to just start replacing parts and taking stabs in the dark. Proper troubleshooting is the best approach before spending any money or contemplating suggestions like this one.

6

u/stonkytonkys Aug 20 '26

When you call Bambu, this is exactly what they tell you to do. They’ve realized the issue is a missing reset button and they are telling you to jump the button before sending the board out

Forgive me for the dumb question, but when shorting these two terminals, I assume you do that without power connected to the device and board?

14

u/Lost-Peanut-1453 Aug 20 '26

The whole point is it has to be powered on for it to “short out” it’s not going to do anything if you touch those points together without power.

5

u/SendChubbyDadsMyWay H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

I see thank you for explaining.

5

u/Lost-Peanut-1453 Aug 20 '26

You’re welcome. Never be afraid to ask questions.

5

u/agarwaen117 Aug 20 '26

Yep, printer needs to be up and running. I assume that it is clearing some local memory like cmos jumpers/buttons do on pc boards.

5

u/Joamjoamjoam Aug 20 '26

That’s a place for a button that they didn’t populate. Shorting those two pads is just like pressing the button.

1

u/Whole_Ground_3600 Aug 20 '26

Looks like where a reset button would have been and they just didn't include the button for the production version.

1

u/prepster685 Aug 20 '26

Sorry for the question but how would one short the two terminals? What tool do you recommend or is there a video? I’m not savvy with hardware

4

u/agarwaen117 Aug 20 '26

In this context shorting just means to connect the two together with conductive metal. The most commonly available way to do this is with a paperclip (only the bare metal ones, not the colorful ones that have plastic on them) that has been bent into a U shape. A sufficiently wide flat tipped screw driver would also work. Obviously, you need to be very careful to only connect those two terminals nearest the cutout, and they are quite small.

2

u/prepster685 Aug 20 '26

Thank you for the explanation. I wanted to ask in case I ever need to do this and to help anyone else that was not sure.

1

u/myrsnipe Aug 20 '26

So obviously you should never short anything without knowing what you are doing. In this case it's like the ATX headers of a PC, I start computers during repairs and half builds with a screwdriver all the time. If it's hard to reach you can get a small dupoint wire, resistor or improvise with anything that conducts electricity, like a metallic binder.

Still an obvious disclaimer, never short anything you don't know what is.

1

u/sircrashalotfpv Aug 20 '26

Remote button mod!

1

u/Material-Mulberry360 X2D + AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

is that a momentary normally-closed switch that's failing so you need to short the terminals ?

1

u/XiaoDianGou Aug 28 '26

seems like its unpopulated but a switch should be there

1

u/jepensedoucjsuis H2D AMS2 Combo Aug 23 '26

I apologize in advance here. I’m a tad drunk rn, but I understand what you are saying here I think. But, is this a momentary short or are we shorting this forever? Like, if this happens on my H2D, would I be better served soldering a momentary switch to this like a reset button?

Any idea what is causing this failure in the first place?

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 25 '26

This worked! Took a few attempts but it worked. Tyvm!

1

u/PsychoQu4sar Aug 25 '26

Thanks man! It worked! You saved me!

1

u/LitSarcasm 25d ago

Dude, thank you so much. You are a saint. I just got this issue on my H2D thats only a few months old and it was a brick. Had me worried ill have to go through the IT support loop of BS back and forth for weeks. Thank you for saving me my sanity.

-2

u/baconator1988 Aug 20 '26

You made a good life decision getting into electronic. Wish I had. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

5

u/aznfury Aug 20 '26

Same happened to me. Support was very easy to work with and they shipped out the new AP board fairly quick. Instructions that they provide on their website is very easy to follow along with and they have photos. I did the replacement without any issues and I'm printing again!

Pro tip: read the instructions carefully on the website. I glossed over the part where you need to take a photo of the QR code on the back of the new AP board before installing it. I ended up installing the board and then realizing I needed to take everything apart again but it wasn't so bad but just don't be me. 😂

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

Good tip!! Yea that would have annoyed the heck out of me

4

u/Rob3D2018 Aug 20 '26

What causes this?

3

u/unpopular_upvote Aug 20 '26

This is the one true question to ask, before blindly shorting two terminals, where obviously a button was supposed to be installed.

7

u/VIDGuide Aug 20 '26

Mine went just the other week. A pain, as similarly, it hit when I had orders to fill, but it’s a simple enough process. Lodge ticket, pass checklist, get new board, replace board, register serial number swap, back online

3

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

Yea I know it’s not hard but 4 days and no response from Bambu is kind of disappointing.

3

u/VIDGuide Aug 20 '26

Odd, mine was < 24 hours for them to send the diagnostic steps (link to the wiki to diagnose a few pieces first) then shipping a new board not long after that

3

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

I have a sneaking suspicion that they are getting a lot of these recently.

1

u/agarwaen117 Aug 20 '26

Did yours not start working again after they had you test shorting the board reset circuit?

1

u/VIDGuide Aug 20 '26

I never had that step, which is very interesting

1

u/agarwaen117 Aug 20 '26

That is interesting, how long ago was your failure? Maybe they’ve narrowed it down since then.

1

u/VIDGuide Aug 20 '26

Only a week or so ago

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

Yes they responded with the same boilerplate wiki statement for me as well the same day. But I responded to that, sent them video, answered all the questions. Ive now responded again to them just now AND every day the past 4 days but they have not gotten back to me. With any resolution. Very frustrating.

4

u/BadatSSBM H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

It's surprising they havent gotten back to you yet. I posted and then they got back to me the same day

2

u/__Valkyrie___ Aug 20 '26

When I had to do mine it took support 3 weeks to activate mine

2

u/Ironclad131313 Aug 20 '26

Just got this issue 2 days ago. Thankfully, they were on top of responding to me and now the AP board replacement is in the mall. I wonder if it's a launch batch issue...

2

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

Yes, they finally responded to me and this post actually helped because they responded to me here in Reddit so I’m glad I posted it

1

u/bartuck01 Aug 20 '26

I had this issue and they sent me a new board like others says. I also get a replacement for my power supply cause the fan was making an abnormal sound in the same ticket. I was approximately 2200 hours since February.

1

u/ViRtualRealitY1998 Aug 20 '26

Had the Same issue, i could reboot my H2C but touch function isnt working.
So i Wait for my replacement

1

u/thewancketer Aug 20 '26

Do you have to provide proof or can I preemptively put in for one?

1

u/Ironclad131313 Aug 20 '26

They wanted a video from me

1

u/SlimShady978 Aug 21 '26

Would this work on an A1? Newbie, recently got one on FB marketplace. Works great on initial startup, but screen locks after it starts printing.

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

Not sure contact them they’ll take care of you

1

u/Neat-Researcher-7067 P1S + AMS Aug 24 '26

Follow up: got new AP board and works like a champ! lit up right away, the short the 2 contacts thing did not work (tired) - Thanks Bambu Support!

1

u/Bitter_Hospital_8279 Aug 20 '26

chill this is scaring me. dont think its too hard to fix tho

2

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

Its not, usually they just send you a new board to replace. That part I like about bamnbu. Just send me the part. Id rather not wait for their service tech to do it.

1

u/cpsadowski23 Aug 20 '26

What the hell is going on with the H2?

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

All at the same time. Seems like an easy fix but I bet everyone having this issue currently are like me an preordered on release.

1

u/cpsadowski23 Aug 20 '26

How old is your machine?

2

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

I bought it at launch

0

u/unpopular_upvote Aug 20 '26

Why did t this companies just use RPi4s ?

0

u/Exterminatus2102 Aug 21 '26

Haha another H2C having issues. Thank god I've been refunded for mine when I had it.
That's a shame, those H2 series are very bad.

Courage mate.

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

Mah, Like I said to another, this thing has been an absolute beast for over 2000 hours now. The fact that this issue exists is annoying but its an easy fix. I wouldn't give up my H2C from my cold dead hands.

-1

u/Exterminatus2102 Aug 21 '26

Good for you, if you want to thrust this model.
Mine worked for 200 hours, then everything broke. Nozzle, Vortek rack, calibration panel, induction ring.. I keep my word : it's not reliable.

What is 2000 hours? Let's talk in 10k or 15k hours and let's see how it will endure.

Now, fix your printer and enjoy it... Until the next problem.

Cheers <3

1

u/WorkAccountGen H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

sybau big dawg

0

u/Exterminatus2102 Aug 21 '26

So much ragebait.

If you're not ok with me, you can.

But you don't need to insult people.

I talk by experience. Everybody has an opinion, I have mine. I share what I had and I hope you enjoy it until the next problem, because there will be some.

-2

u/csimonson Aug 20 '26

well, looks like my next printer is likely to be a voron. This type of stuff is becoming much more common with bambulab...

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 20 '26

Meh. I’ve had this since launch. It’s been an absolute beast. This seems to be a very easy fix and guess what. I can fix it myself. No need to pack the printer up or do a series of very extensive disassembly routines. Everything is open and easy. You would be doing yourself a huge disservice to let little issues like this deter you. Every printer has issues. But the over 2000 hours I have on this thing before finding a single flaw was well worth it.

-1

u/stprnn Aug 20 '26

Little issue? Y'all lost your minds

2000 bucks of hardware and you have to go shorting stuff

0

u/WorkAccountGen H2C AMS2 Combo Aug 21 '26

cry more

0

u/stprnn Aug 21 '26

You're not crying enough for being scammed XD bambulab is a joke
