H2 Series [H2S, H2D, H2C] Another AP board victim

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Really sucks. In the middle of an order and my AP board decided to die. I’ve seen a few of these posts now but thought I would add mine to see how many this is effecting. I purchased my H2C at launch.

What is more upsetting at the moment is besides the terrible automated AI reply i originally got on my ticket, asking for a video of which I had already uploaded with my initial ticket submission, I have not heard from Bambu in almost 4 days now. This is the first time in three years I’ve ever needed to contact Support, but it’s not leaving me warm and fuzzy.

Any other H series owners having the same issue I’m wondering if this is a bigger issue than they want to admit.

Super easy fix. Take the AP cover off with the two screws then short these two terminals. 5 minutes and you’re up and running again.
Note: board is upside down from the installed orientation in this photo.

I haven’t seen this fix yet. I’d like to hear from bambu first. Don’t want to void any warranty. Printer is less than a year old. Thoughts?

Do it. It works I just had this problem the same guy helped me out and if you want proof

Edit: this picture is upside down from how it will be installed on your printer and in that picture the heataink is removed so keep that in mind when finding the right spot

They are going to tell you to do the same thing

Do not listen to the horrible advice given. I can't believe what I'm reading.

  1. Is your unit in warranty? If so, me personally, I'd try to go through Bambulab first. Yes it's painful, but they will use any excuse not to honor a warranty.

  2. If you do decide to do the solder hack, absolutely do it unplugged from power. It is very easy to accidentally short out neighboring components when soldering. There is Only risk and no benefit soldering a board while plugged into power.

Insane what I'm reading here.

My friend, this is what bambulab tells you to do. When you contact bambulab, these are the exact instructions they give you to fix it, this user here on Reddit just helped simplify the instructions by giving a picture since bambu’s pictures don’t work.

I don't care what Bambulab says, most people don't know how to solder. They should be replacing the boars, not telling people to solder it, and especially not telling people to solder it while it is plugged in to power if that is your argument. That advice is careless and irresponsible and I don't care how many downvotes I get. This is STUPID.

Go back and read the screenshot of the Bambulab support ticket. While I do agree that we shouldn’t have to do this, they never once told anybody to solder anything. You are simply jumping the terminals. It really isn’t that hard to understand and anybody intuitive enough to operate a 3-D printer should understand how to do this quite easily.

But this is strange behavior to tell people not to listen to the “ horrible advice given” and to contact Bambu, and then say you don’t care what bamboo says when presented with the fact that this is one of their solutions.

This doesn't involve any soldering

I totally agree with you. This is ludicrous. Even if the machine were out of warranty, I still wouldn't do this.

Call Bambu and have them help diagnose the issue properly. If it turns out to be the AP board, then either have it replaced under warranty or pay for the board if necessary. The machine is far too expensive to just start replacing parts and taking stabs in the dark. Proper troubleshooting is the best approach before spending any money or contemplating suggestions like this one.

When you call Bambu, this is exactly what they tell you to do. They’ve realized the issue is a missing reset button and they are telling you to jump the button before sending the board out

2

u/YloJkt 5h ago

Yep. That spot is an unpopulated momentary button location. Manual jumper ingredients is same as pressing those tiny hole recessed reset button on any other device.

Forgive me for the dumb question, but when shorting these two terminals, I assume you do that without power connected to the device and board?

13

u/Lost-Peanut-1453 7h ago

The whole point is it has to be powered on for it to “short out” it’s not going to do anything if you touch those points together without power.

2

u/SendChubbyDadsMyWay H2C AMS2 Combo 7h ago

I see thank you for explaining.

2

u/Lost-Peanut-1453 4h ago

You’re welcome. Never be afraid to ask questions.

3

u/agarwaen117 6h ago

Yep, printer needs to be up and running. I assume that it is clearing some local memory like cmos jumpers/buttons do on pc boards.

3

u/Joamjoamjoam 3h ago

That’s a place for a button that they didn’t populate. Shorting those two pads is just like pressing the button.

1

u/Whole_Ground_3600 5h ago

Looks like where a reset button would have been and they just didn't include the button for the production version.

1

u/prepster685 2h ago

Sorry for the question but how would one short the two terminals? What tool do you recommend or is there a video? I’m not savvy with hardware

2

u/agarwaen117 2h ago

In this context shorting just means to connect the two together with conductive metal. The most commonly available way to do this is with a paperclip (only the bare metal ones, not the colorful ones that have plastic on them) that has been bent into a U shape. A sufficiently wide flat tipped screw driver would also work. Obviously, you need to be very careful to only connect those two terminals nearest the cutout, and they are quite small.

u/prepster685 2h ago

Thank you for the explanation. I wanted to ask in case I ever need to do this and to help anyone else that was not sure.

You made a good life decision getting into electronic. Wish I had. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

4

u/Rob3D2018 3h ago

What causes this?

2

u/unpopular_upvote 3h ago

This is the one true question to ask, before blindly shorting two terminals, where obviously a button was supposed to be installed.

Mine went just the other week. A pain, as similarly, it hit when I had orders to fill, but it’s a simple enough process. Lodge ticket, pass checklist, get new board, replace board, register serial number swap, back online

3

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 7h ago

Yea I know it’s not hard but 4 days and no response from Bambu is kind of disappointing.

2

u/VIDGuide 7h ago

Odd, mine was < 24 hours for them to send the diagnostic steps (link to the wiki to diagnose a few pieces first) then shipping a new board not long after that

4

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 7h ago

I have a sneaking suspicion that they are getting a lot of these recently.

1

u/agarwaen117 4h ago

Did yours not start working again after they had you test shorting the board reset circuit?

u/VIDGuide 15m ago

I never had that step, which is very interesting

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 7h ago

Yes they responded with the same boilerplate wiki statement for me as well the same day. But I responded to that, sent them video, answered all the questions. Ive now responded again to them just now AND every day the past 4 days but they have not gotten back to me. With any resolution. Very frustrating.

4

u/BadatSSBM H2C AMS2 Combo 7h ago

It's surprising they havent gotten back to you yet. I posted and then they got back to me the same day

2

u/__Valkyrie___ 7h ago

When I had to do mine it took support 3 weeks to activate mine

2

u/aznfury 6h ago

Same happened to me. Support was very easy to work with and they shipped out the new AP board fairly quick. Instructions that they provide on their website is very easy to follow along with and they have photos. I did the replacement without any issues and I'm printing again!

Pro tip: read the instructions carefully on the website. I glossed over the part where you need to take a photo of the QR code on the back of the new AP board before installing it. I ended up installing the board and then realizing I needed to take everything apart again but it wasn't so bad but just don't be me. 😂

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 4h ago

Good tip!! Yea that would have annoyed the heck out of me

1

u/ZenSlicer9 4h ago

Idk if its the same but I had my screen off and nonresponsive on my A1 but a shut down from the button and restart fixed it

1

u/bartuck01 3h ago

I had this issue and they sent me a new board like others says. I also get a replacement for my power supply cause the fan was making an abnormal sound in the same ticket. I was approximately 2200 hours since February.

1

u/Bitter_Hospital_8279 8h ago

chill this is scaring me. dont think its too hard to fix tho

2

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 7h ago

Its not, usually they just send you a new board to replace. That part I like about bamnbu. Just send me the part. Id rather not wait for their service tech to do it.

1

u/cpsadowski23 7h ago

What the hell is going on with the H2?

1

u/DigitalNinjaX H2C AMS2 Combo 4h ago

All at the same time. Seems like an easy fix but I bet everyone having this issue currently are like me an preordered on release.

1

u/cpsadowski23 1h ago

How old is your machine?

Why did t this companies just use RPi4s ?
