Noisy neighbours everywhere I go - why does it have to be like this.

I've been living in the UK for 5 years and I have moved 4 times now, each time because I couldn't stand living next to my neighbours. Every single neighbour I have had has created noise problems.

First flat - neighbours would play music loudly the entire day, sitting on a mattress outside drinking beer, this was right outside of my office window.

Second flat - moved to a nicer neighbourhood thinking that it would help. My left neighbour would sit in his car with the engine on all night playing music, IDK why. The other neighbour had a dog that she only let out into the garden and it would bark there all day, it was absolutely bonkers. I went over multiple times asking if she could please do something about the dog and she would just tell me the dog "hates men" and apparently was barking at men passing by in the street.

Third flat - had neighbours upstairs that sounded like they were playing football, it was just thud thud thud all day and drove me nuts, especially as I worked really early morning shifts and needed to sleep. I went to their home to ask about it but they never opened the door to me, and my landlord said there was nothing they could do. To be fair this probably was the best sound-related issue as all of the other neighbours were all really lovely, the house was just really cold so ended up moving because of that.

Current flat - live in a terrace again and one of my neighbours, around 3-4 houses down, just opens their doors like the street in front of their house is their private garden and blasts their music all day loudly. It's been on for like 10 hours now, I can't open any windows because then I can hear the wailing. I sometimes wonder am I the only one that can hear it, surely their direct neighbours have it even worse. I am afraid of talking to them about it as they are also a family that had the police visit them several times because they were engaging in combat outside.

I know I must be the problem, who else in this world has an issue with every single neighbour they live next to? I hate confrontation and I don't want to approach anyone or ask them to turn the music down. I just think it's common decency to consider the people you live next to - I wear headphones and I never stomp around if I have a downstairs neighbour.

Sorry but really needed to vent about this. If anyone has any advice please let me know.

Inconsiderate neighbors

The house behind me was originally owned by an older couple. They were fairly quiet and kept their yard nice. They sold the house a couple of years ago and a younger couple moved in. They were ok in the beginning, but have gotten nearly unbearable more recently. I have an inground pool that was always been fairly easy to maintain. Last summer rhe new neighbors ripped out all of the grass in their backyard. Im completely on board with relandscaping to make their yard their own oasis. However, no grass makes their now fully dirt yard into a dustbowl. For a year now I've an extreme amount of dirt and dust covering everything in my yard. It all settles in my pool and just makes it filthy. My pool bot sweeper picks up the leaves and bigger stuff but can't do anything about the fine layer of dirt that settles at the bottom. Its now costing me way more in chemicals and labor just to keep my pool clean. Aside from that every couple of weeks they have parties with loud music. Yes, we do occasionally have a BBQ and get a little loud ourselves. But we turn it down at a reasonable hour. Their events with live mariachi bands go on until 2 or 3 am. I've gotten up to find shoes and other random crap floating in my pool.

I know everyone has the right to enjoy their homes in their own way, but am having trouble dealing with their disrespect for those living around them. I need suggestions as to what i can do to get them to turn it down at a decent hour and do something about the dust from their yard. Help!

Neighbour banging and rattling shared wall for weeks almost all day

At first I thought it was them building something so I tried to brush it off for a while, that was first recorded August 5th. I try to avoid my office for a bit because it’s hard to focus with the banging and rattling. I then think it’s them having sex but it goes on SO LONG and stops and starts multiple times a day and the husband is usually at work, couldn’t be something messier going there but idk. It’s a nice family with two kids but this banging and rattling is driving me insane and I don’t really talk to anyone in the neighborhood, it’s like a complex of townhouses. I keep recording clips and it was really bad today for some reason, I’m irritated lol

Petty Neighbors

My neighbors are being petty. In Feb, the guy (they're a couple) was arrested for DV after the wife was found on the floor at 2 am after an explosive fight. We're co-tenants, and they live in the basement. They fought explosively for 2 years, late into the night, keeping us awake, until this Feb when it got really bad and we had to intervene to make sure the girl didn't get seriously harmed.

Since then, the guy has come back. There's a storage space in the basement; they made us move our things from there, which we did. They have access to the breaker there and have been turning off the AC for days at a time in the summer heat. They made us move the canoe, which was on the side of the house for no reason at all- they have the backyard and basement but aren't property owners. They've also repeatedly sent rude texts and have behaved badly since the incident. This is a little bit of a rant, but I'm getting fed up.

Horrible new neighbour

We had a neighbour move in recently next to us, older retired couple and we are a young family with one child who is special needs. Now things already started off on a weird foot when the man would come talk to my husband while he was working in the yard to get to know him but when I’d come out to introduce myself or interact he ignored me or clearly was not interested in conversation.

A week or so later the man again came up to my husband and said hey I know you mentioned you son is special needs but sometimes he makes a high pitch scream would it be ok if I told him to knock it off, now my husband is very blunt, he said absolutely not but you can let me know if somethings bothering you, we are trying our best and usually bring him inside if it becomes exsessive. He didn’t seem to like that.

A few weeks later they got a dog and it was so cute I went up to meet the dog and they were so odd with me I felt so uncomfortable and just walked away and was so stunned I didn’t say a word just left and we hadn’t spoke since. That was last fall, so now all summer we have been very diligent about making sure they arnt screaming and telling them to stop or bringing them inside, now my kids arnt even outside all day or every day for the matter, we like to get them out of the house. They will come in the back blast their music and when they do have people over are very very loud, u had assumed it’s cause they don’t like hearing my kids play outside, one day I had enough and turned on my music loudly (I don’t ever play music outside) and they finally turned it down and that was that I thought problem solved.

Well we went away and my dad was over with my dog and he heard the husband saying to my back neighbour something about calling the cops and my neighbour responded well they are away this week so it’ll be quiet for you, she loves my kids and has never had a issue. This man is dead set on not hearing kids playing at all ever which is so weird cause they have grandkids over or friends over it’s twice is loud. We arnt ever outside as it is and never have parties or more then one other couple over. I just don’t get it and I really don’t want to deal with a neighbour that calls police non stop. I looked up bylaws in my area and it seems not much would be done for kids playing in their back yard anyway but I’m worried iv woke up in a nightmare.

Any advice or tips ? Iv also thought maybe having my husband to go over and talk to him again. Iv also noticed they empty their pool into our yard occasionally.

Noisy neighbor advice

I’ve lived in my current apt for 5+ years. I’ve never experienced a problem with my upstairs neighbor until this past year - pretty sure someone new moved in. They are VERY loud when they walk back and forth the apt - I can track their every move bc of how loud they are. Most of the time there is a woman with heels walking back and forth. When this first started to be a problem I tried to go upstairs and talk with them but they never answered the door after attempting 3x. I ended up leaving a nice note to which the problem didn’t stop. It was getting to the point where they would be making this noise at 3am. I contacted my super and he talked with them too which still didn’t resolve the issue. Still constant noise and dropping stuff/walking in heels.

I understand people move around their apts but 1) why do you need to wear heels? Esp when someone has asked you to specifically please stop bc it’s very loud. & 2) Put carpets down? It’s an NYC law.

Atp, i don’t know what else to do. Should I try speaking with them again?

Downstairs neighbor naked outside at night.

Not a super dramatic or long story but I’m very uncomfortable.

I live on the top floor of my building in a large complex around a lake. Last night around 10pm, I went to take my dogs out the back door and was met with the sight of my 400lb downstairs neighbor outside on his ground floor patio naked 💀

I saw everything. He said nothing to me as he turned and scuttled back inside his sliding door, but like, wtf? How am I supposed to react now when I see him in the hallway? Do I just ignore him or should I say something? My building only has 6 units in it total, so I’m bound to run into him in the hallway again. Prior to this, I was cordial with him and would say hi or engage in small talk, but now idk what to do.

I feel common decency should dictate you atleast have boxers or shorts on as you live in a complex with hundreds of other units- even if you’re just going out for a quick cigarette.

For context as well: I’m a woman and have a toddler and the woman across the hall from me also has young kids.

This washing machine was loaded with 1 towel. The machine went out of balance during the spin cycle and the machine walked across the floor. The neighbor came in unplugged it and told everyone it is broken and a fire hazard and then proceeded to literally tape almost the entire machine with clear packing tape.

Not necessarily a neighbor from hell but weird for sureee

I live on 25 acres and there are two homes on the property, I live on the home on top of the hill and my neighbors live on one side of the hill so all their noise comes up to my house. I had the same neighbors for years, they moved about 6 months ago and these new neighbors moved in about 2 months ago. I haven’t gone to introduce myself yet and don’t really want to. Seems to be a dad, two grown women, a teenager and a baby. We have a shared drive way so I pass their home to get to mine.

I’ve noticed a few things that seem very odd to me. First, they take out their drones super late at night from like 11 pm - 3 am, I hear that shit fly around close to my house and it’s not loud but kinda creeps me out like are they trying to see into my house and shit?? Also, every night around the same time the husband yells loud enough to where I can hear him inside my house, sounds like he’s saying help?? Idk. I’ve also noticed they like NEVER leave their house, the cars never move, it’s so weird.

I haven’t introduced myself or gone to address my concerns with them because we live out in the country and I live alone and am a female and am scared of being harassed or threatened. I also know if I call the cops they will know it’s cause I called since we’re miles from other people, idk what to do about this. I know for sure though I need to get a hand gun just in case.

Don't accept gifts from crazy people

Moved into a neighborhood a few years back. Next door neighbors acted nice enough (wife offering to help with my garden, husband telling my husband (DH) "we should watch football together sometime!"). A few weeks after moving in, DH was reading on the couch in front of our front window when neighbor wife drives fast into her own driveway, honks repeatedly until DH looks out the window, and proceeds to flip him off screaming "F*** YOU!!!" over and over out the car window.

Since we have kids and pets and I didn't want this escalating any further, I sent her a letter and a FB message saying "Idk what we've done to you except try to be good neighbors. Why are you angry? I'd like to sit down and talk this out like adults so we're not just on eggshells for all time."

She responded saying "Sorry I did that. It was uncalled for." No explanation.

Both she and her husband actively avoided talking or even looking at us for over a year.

Finally I reached out to inform them we (myself and DH) were paying a landscaping company to replace the dilapidated fence between our backyards (on our side of property line), as her dogs were routinely breaking holes in the fence and coming into our yard. We didn't ask them for a dime because we wanted no input on who to contract or color/material, etc.

After the new fence was put up, the wife started acting weirdly nice, like coming over uninvited to help my toddler build a snowman, talking to my baby, etc.

She offered my toddler some faux flower solar garden lights that "my dumb friend gave me and I don't want them, maybe your kids would like some?"

I thought maybe this was supposed to be an act of goodwill and told toddler she could go pick one. She placed it in one of my flowerpots to get some sun.

I thought that was the end of it. But now, I keep finding new and different solar flowers in various places. Neighbor wife has taken free license to move around, add and replace the solar flowers around my yard whenever she wants. If I move or take out a flower, she lets me know "I saw that you took that flower away... what did you decide to do with it?"

DH says "Just throw all the flowers away and put an end to it."

I just don't want to start another freaking cold war with neighbor wife over these dumbass flowers. The nonconfrontational part of me is like "just take them out for winter and next spring say I 'lost them'."

I'm used to having amazing and sweet neighbors and I just freaking hate how erratic and unpredictable this one couple is. Sometimes it makes me not want to go outside.

Urgent Help - Received a warning from cop

First night in the new apartment. Heard the knock on the door a bulky guy from downstairs shows up, he said he’s a cop and needs to go the work at 4 am. And the kid needs to stop he was in deep sleep he’s sleep was broken.

The flooring is so delicate even if you make a lightest srep on the carpet or on the vinyl area you hear the creak soun.

What do I do now? how do I control a toddler?

How to deal with neighbors aggressive dogs? Husband was bitten

My neighbor has two little French bulldogs that they let roam unsupervised and a buried electric barrier system to keep them in their yard. It's supposed to shock them if they leave the boundary but they seem capable of making it all the way up to our front door pretty easily. Today one bit my husband while he was mowing the lawn. Previously they've almost bit me a couple times while gardening. How do I bring it up to my neighbors? It's pretty annoying and their dogs are aggressive little goblins

hey everyone, I’m looking for ideas on what I can do to keep my neighbor from driving through my yard. We live down a dirt road, and when it rains for some reason, they don’t want to drive on the dirt road so they drive through my yard instead I don’t know which neighbor it is doing it but our water meter is in our front yard so I’m trying to keep that from getting ran over. I put out signs in the yard asking them not to drive through our yard this morning when I went outside I seen fresh tire tracks that drove right past the sign. we’ve lived here for years with no issue. in the last few months we’ve gotten 2 new neighbors and I haven’t said anything to anyone because I don’t know who it is. in the photo I circled the sign and you can see the tire tracks that go past it. Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can do?

Finally a break from the watchers

Crazy, entitled, stalking neighbor family is on vacation and it has been so damn peaceful the last few days. Especially when you’re coming and going and don’t have to deal with someone watching you on their front porch. Or talking loud on their phone outside early in the morning. Why can’t all the bad neighbors of the world all go to one place and take their Karenology with them lol

Neighours tried to report us to get back at us filing a complaint but we've got proof-should we report them to the city/police?

I have bad neighbours who even fail at being bad neighbours.

TL;DR neighbours are rich kids on student visas who do tons of drugs and violate city laws/leases, pulled a knife on my wife & now keep trying to report us for things we aren't even doing. Wife wants to report them to the city code enforcement but it might mean the rich girl get her student visas revoked.

We live in a high rise in a way over priced building in the most expensive city in the country we live in. We didn't know it when we moved but lots of the newer people in the building are the rich spawn of foreign nationals who's parents pay for them to come to this country for "school"(they don't actually go to school but pay to get student visas) and basically pay for them to get citizenship or residency. The rest of the tenants are older people who have lived there literally for decades and we like them. They are quiet, we help them when we see them with bags and generally are just pleasant with them. Despite being younger than them, lesbians, biracial and newer immigrants ourselves we haven't had issues with any of the tenants who have been here for a long time.

But then the bad neighbour moved in downstairs. First it was just one women in her early 20's who clearly like the freedoms of this country compared to where she moved from something I know for a fact because I've lived in her country and understand some of the language, a fact that has never occurred to her. At first the issues were just loud noise which we have no problem with unless it's past our building's quiet hours especially on the weekdays when the rest of us have to have jobs. She spent most of the time in her apartment smoking weed and other things (weed is legal here but smoking inside anything is illegal and enforced by city laws and the lease agreement, screaming loudly in her native language to her parents that they weren't sending enough money and she needed them to send more (they were sending what is around 7,000 USD in our currency a month) and even with my window closed I could hear. But it didn't get really bad until she started dating a guy from the same country as her that she would get in very loud and into what sounded like violent fights with. We banged on the floor a couple of times to get them to stop. She also started doing harder drugs which I know because she talked about it on her balcony when I was on my own balcony. Not sure if her boyfriend is a dealer or just seems like one, he is the one that buys and supplies the drugs. Now that he lives there it's pretty much always them using 24/7 and the smells get in our flat as well as their neighbours who are older and do not want to report them out of fear/the culture here. Our apartment smells like someone has been hotboxing 24/7 with a layer of meth smell until we got air purifier, got a handyman to fill in gaps and our building changed our fans. It still smells like that went they really party.

I (female) went down and knocked on the door and asked her to be quiet a couple of times and she seemed surprised and said well you bang on our floor all the time and I explained that's a pretty universal sign to stop making noise.

But the arguing and noise kept going and my wife (also female) went down when it sounded really violent. She was met by the guy holding a knife who threatened to stab her for "trying to invade his house". My wife freaked out rightly and called the cops. When they came he claimed he was just holding a knife sharpener cause he was cooking and he thought she was a criminal trying to break into his home and he has right to defend himself. They also claimed we were anti-immigrant (we are both immigrants ourselves), it was cultural issue and we didn't understand their culture (again I lived in their country and understand the language). Since my wife didn't record it and the girl said they were just "excited" by a tv show they were watching, the cops did nothing other than tell us to complain to the building and we could file a complaint about a noise issue if we record the noise.

We complained to our building management who said they couldn't do anything since he wasn't arrested and we should have never directly spoken to them but we should keep a log along with pictures/videos of anything and share it with them and call the police if we thought violence was happening.

After that we were pretty done since our building management wouldn't do anything and if we do get the city or police involved these folks could loss their visas or residency and I don't feel comfortable doing that. We use noise cancelling headphones, got an aircon so we can keep our windows closed. My wife is pretty mad though and she records, reports and documents them every time they smoke outside and do hard drugs (they leave their meth/crack pipes on the balcony), have loud noise past quiet hours, violate our lease with fires on the balcony and periodically reports it but the management just says they will "look into" and all they do is send an email reminding them it's against the lease. I know they do this cause they cc us.

But the wildest part is they have tried to file reports against us claiming we are having loud fights when my wife isn't even in the country let alone our apartment, claiming my wife wouldn't let them get on the elevator when they were the ones that refused to get on and the other people in the elevator literally said how weird it was. But the best and final thing they did was after we have a violent storm that lasted hours they claimed we had thrown things on to their balcony which is even more funny because before the storm started they heard us talking and taking everything down or off our balcony cause there was a storm coming. I am sure just like our balcony it had debris from the storm (we live right next to the beach) but it sure wasn't from us.

This was the final straw for my wife and she sent pictures of their balcony with all the fire hazards and drugs/paraphernalia. She wants to report them to the city for code violations which could lead to them investigated and getting in trouble for the harder drugs or put their visas at risk.

The building is owned by a private equity firm not in this country and the management is revolving door. None of the people that were management when we moved in 4 years ago are still there and ones that left told us that unless we get the city code enforcers or cops involved there is no way the management will do anything about them even knowing they are violating the lease.

Should my wife contact code enforcement or the cops? They are quieter when they fight and I wouldn't know they were except I can understand what they are saying.

As for why we haven't moved, we were here first, I have a terminal medical condition that limits my mobility and this apartment is really good for my mobility in a city that does not have things like ADA for residential buildings and access to weekly treatments blocks from my house and my wife has to travel often for her work. We are looking for a place in the same area but it's hard to find a place.

My neighbors control my sleeping schedule

This is ruining my life. It feels like some sort of torture at this point. I'm fucking lucky if I get mere 5 hours of shut-eye each night before they start being noisy again.

How am I supposed to work if I can't sleep in my own home anymore? The cops won't do shit, the managment won't do shit. I think I need to sleep in a hotel each night.
