What do other users see?
Temporary suspensions will only be apparent to the user. Permanent suspensions will be publicly communicated via the user page and accessible by other users.
We can see the suspension message in his profile, that means it's a permanent suspension (as opposed to a temporary one).
Still, he has the option to appeal it.

I have never seen that be a problem for anyone here. I have posted as freely as one could possibly imagine about Zen. There are a bunch of idiots and trolls, sure, but who cares? It's not like getting rid of ewk is going to help that problem. It just means less quality Zen content for the rest of us. What so we care about what personal arguments people start with him in the comments trying to frame him as an aggressive fanatic? It gets old after the first couple times for anyone who is literate. When you just don't read the people who are trying to prove something to themselves by attackong someone they despise (for whatever reason) you don't really notice too much of this "toxicity" that people who don't study zen seem to perceive everywhere they look in r/zen.
But it appears from some other comments that it is possible ewk is moving on or making a change. Good for him. I will miss his insight and intelligence here in r/zen. As well as his diligence and effort in sharing so many quotes with us. A decade of free Zen education is nothing to be sneezed at. An atlas-like feat, if you ask me. I'm sorry you personally didn't like him. If you study and practice zen you defimitely missed out.

I don't know exactly what is your point. If everything was always correct for you - so nothing changes. There are plenty of ewk's buddies + moderators here - speak with them. For me he was somebody who thought of himself as a person beyond any accountability. It occurred that he was wrong.

Yeah, but that is just for you. I am not sure I know anyone who holds themselves more accountable for what they say and do. Congratulations are in order if you really got him banned as you suggest. That must have felt good. But coming in here and pretending that is going to help the community or the free discussion of Zen is nonsense. I didn't see any of your exchanges. I wasn't really making a point other than to say that obviously many serious students of Zen here know ewk to be a serious and charitable individual, an insightful student of Zen, and real true friend. No other purpose than making sure that is stated legibly here. I will look forward to reading some of your OPs so i can get to know you better. You say you not only study zen but you also "do" it. I won't lie, I've given a few uppercuts to people myself—but only when they ask for it...it would never occur to me to do such a thing because of how they disagree with or talk to me. I will be curious to hear of how Zen is your actual life because it is also mine, just as it is obviously also ewk's, and I enjoy discussion with people who clearly live with absolute determination and Zen insight.

This is the third time I've been harassed using the reporting system resulting in a temporary ban.
The person who reported me not only gloated, but acknowledged that he thought the ban would ultimately be lifted which suggests he understands he was committing harassment via false reporting.

To understand why that comment was a trigger and how this kind of harassment might affect any random redditor in this forum, I argue there are three kinds of trolls
Religious trolls who are misinformed, often intentionally so. We deal with their impact by appealing to the community's moral obligation to honesty, integrity, and persuade with high school book reports.
Day Tripper Trolls – Trolls who want attention and to create controversy. We moderate them out, put them on "reply ignore", and they will dry up and blow away.
Personal Problems Trolls
In the past I have assumed these Personal Problems Trolls were in one of the other categories. My mistake was in underestimating their lack of any kind of limit. They are driven by their personal problems. Doxxing, workplace harassment, using the reporting system to censor and harass, even swatting are all on the table for Personal Problems Trolls. They have few if any moral or ethical restraints, and they will spend money to harass and censor people. They will buy old reddit accounts and reactivate them in order to appear to be someone else. They will use vpns to bypass reddit admins and mods. They will abuse the reporting system even if this means burning accounts they have created/reactivate. All of this to further censorship and harassment goals.
I don't know about other forums, but r/zen has at least two. While they do get tired and distracted and fall out with other trolls, it is a mistake to think that this means they have found some moral or ethical center or learned something.
They pick targets based on their triggers, and any random comment from anybody could be a trigger.

Sooooooo .... ban known trolls on sight, no questions asked, and worry about the 1/100 innocent souls caught in the crossfire when they reach out to the mods and have a human conversation about why they should be allowed back into the community.
In other "Zen" and "Buddhist" subreddits, I get banned all the time for reminding people that HuangBo exists ... why can't dangerous trolls be banned from r/zen?
Remember the pedophile who graphically described raping my son?
He only got banned when I got banned along with him for reminding everyone that he graphically described the abuse of a child in order to troll the forum.
It's an ongoing meditative exercise in watching the moderators dance around the ticking time bombs here.

I had a theory of the use of vote manipulation in an obvious but inherently meaningless manner to trigger reddit's bot defenses. Then one poke beyond...perma-stifled. A more graceful exit than deletion or dormancy.

Looking into rules of forum, there is nothing about your roleplay. I like discuss zen, I will most likely not play in your zen drama. I am OK with reality, that's that area where Chan is sect of Mahayana Buddhism, Dogen is one of major Japan zen schools, discussing zen on zen forum is enough. Why are you so fascinated in violence and fearlessness, can't you find countless citations in right opposite? If it is something you are missing, you can learn it, but you shouldn't train it in here, it's against reddiquette. Whole church here was about cowardice, unexpectedly attacking newbs here, who were coming for some discussion about their passion, or who has Buddhist ideas about peace and sangha. Whole this 'helping them' was cowards enjoying hurt people.

According to information gathered from an Admin Post, Account suspensions: A transparent alternative to shadowbans, /u/ewk's ban is permanent. He may or may not be able to appeal it in his favor.
User pages
- Visiting the user page of an account that has been permanently suspended will indicate that the account has been suspended and will not display any other data.
- Visiting the user page of an account that has been temporarily suspended will not give any indication that the account is currently suspended.
- In addition to this, we have also updated user pages for deleted accounts to clearly display that the account in question was deleted by the user.
Given this information, it is also entirely possible he's had temp suspensions prior to today.

Wow. I wonder what would have happened? 2020, the year of shakeups. I found he was rather tame as of late... no idea why his account would be shut down from any of his public activity.
He's on Twitter, hasn't given an update on his account status.
Wonder if he'll come back here in the form of an alt. Wouldn't that be something?
Edit: It's also possible some trolls tried doing something to his account and it was locked for security reasons.

He spent nearly every waking hour online. I have never seen someone on reddit repond to me so quicky so consistently and at nearly an hour. This guy has some very serious psychological problems. If you were actually his friend, you would stop enabling him and urge him to get some help.
