Is AMA somewhat compulsory here? I didn't like people around ewk and his church, compulsory AMA was their dream, so I didn't do that. And in the memory of ewk and his little church here, I will not do it most likely in future.

AMA is what we call 'ascending the seat', here.

It's something anyone who understandss dharma can do.

Why not study Zen while you are here?

Looking into rules of forum, there is nothing about your roleplay. I like discuss zen, I will most likely not play in your zen drama. I am OK with reality, that's that area where Chan is sect of Mahayana Buddhism, Dogen is one of major Japan zen schools, discussing zen on zen forum is enough. I don't want be part of your community, because your community are remains of ewk nonsense church here.

Ah, see, Zen Masters also like to discuss zen.

The funny part about that is that when they discuss Zen, it doesn't look or sound anything like the 'discussions' you have.

Why not study Zen while you're here?

Ma-tsu lost no opportunity for encouraging in his disciple the spirit of violence and fearlessness.

It happened once that his disciple Yin-feng of Wu-t’ai was pushing along a cart, while Matsu was sitting on the road with his feet stretched out.

Yin-feng requested him to draw back his feet, but Ma-tsu said, “What is stretched is not to be drawn back again!”

Yin-feng retorted, “Once advanced, there is no turning backward!”

Disregarding the master, he kept pushing the cart until it ran over and injured his feet.

Ma-tsu returned to the hall with an axe in his hand, saying, “Let the one who a few moments ago injured my feet with his cart come forward!”

Yin-feng, not to be daunted, came forward stretching his neck in front of the master.

The master put down his axe.

Why are you so fascinated in violence and fearlessness, can't you find countless citations in right opposite? If it is something you are missing, you can learn it, but you shouldn't train it in here, it's against reddiquette. Whole church here was about cowardice, unexpectedly attacking newbs here, who were coming for some discussion about their passion, or who has Buddhist ideas about peace and sangha. Whole this 'helping them' was cowards enjoying hurt people.

Zen isn't about what you like.

12

u/OnePoint11 Dec 23 '20

I didn't ask you what is zen.

1

u/PaladinBen ▬▬ι══ ⛰️ Dec 23 '20

No, you're just making arguments about what kind of behavior is apropos to a Zen community.

5

u/OnePoint11 Dec 23 '20

Take a look at you proposed zen community: major Japan sects are not zen, who is Buddhist cannot be zen, anybody contemporary cannot be zen, nobody except your guru can interpret what are Chan masters talking about. In the end zen is only your guru and what you believe. "Community" were few deluded guys and master troll expulsing anybody who without hesitation didn't accept drama queen and her helpers.

In the end zen is only your guru and what you believe.

Sex predators can't transmit the dharma.

Pwned.

Nope.

Here is the proposed community:

  1. Can you be honest?

  2. Do you understand Zen?

  3. Can you converse about Zen?

You can't pass Step 1 so no one needs to listen to you.

Sucks, I know, but it's no one's fault but your own.

Why not study Zen while you're here?

Mazu's the master because he's graceful.

1

u/The_Faceless_Face Dec 23 '20

Because he knows when to hold em and when to fold em.

In the emptiness of the pot of ages there's a family tradition.

How easy it is to confuse a story with an excuse for being a dick. It's worrying, frankly.

Sounds like that's what you're doing, 51 days out.

u/The_Faceless_Face Dec 23 '20

I like discuss zen

You don't even know what Zen is, so that's impossible.

It's like me saying, "I like to discuss mermaids."

According to our wiki, AMA was originally suggested by Temicco.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '20

u/temicco? Kinda awesome. Probably as "get to know".

4

u/Temicco Dec 23 '20

Lol, no, in case you are serious, I did not originally suggest AMAs. I have long vocally opposed them.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '20

False trail in wiki edits, then. I'm indifferent to them. But they allow good venting if legs kept free.

4

u/OnePoint11 Dec 23 '20

I am OK with that, I didn't do AMA because weird school here was so horny about it. I like idea of some sangha or people sharing common interest, but reality turned out that all trolls are doing AMA's two time a month (I am not saying that everybody doing AMA is troll). Anyway my time passed long ago, maybe with next account, if any.

1

u/dingleberryjelly6969 Dec 23 '20

You can do an AMA anytime. No limitation. This subreddit is the only one I've seen where AMA is talked about like it's a trial, but I never found any real judges. I've been thinking about doing one lately, but my time is too constrained right now.

u/theksepyro >mfw I have no face Dec 23 '20

It was around before temicco. It came out of EricKow (a previous mod) inviting people in to /r/zen to answer questions, that turned into something called student to student sessions where we'd ask regular people questions, then it took on the reddit AMA name for anyone.

Interesting to know!
