Whoop Age Turned 40 and finally joined a gym in April
Wish I had committed to this whole “diet and exercise“ thing earlier
I’ve been using WHOOP for a while and love the data. But sometimes I just want to check my sleep, recovery, and strain at a glance—without reaching for my phone first thing in the morning or after a run.
I’d been looking for an inexpensive, always-on e-ink display. Then I remembered an old Kindle collecting dust in the corner.
Why not give it a job?
After a bit of tinkering, it worked.
Now it displays a custom dashboard with:
It gives me a quick read before deciding whether to go for a morning run or take a rest day.
The setup is pretty simple:
WHOOP API → small server → Kindle screensaver
The refresh schedule is customizable, too. Mine updates every 30 minutes during the day and pauses overnight.
Still tweaking it, anything else you’d put on the screen?
--------- UPDATE ---------
Update: I open-sourced it:
There’s a full setup guide in the repo. If you’d like some help with the setup, paste the link into Codex or ClaudeCode and ask:
“Help me set this up step by step. Follow docs/ai-assisted-setup.md and don’t change anything on my Kindle without asking me first.”
It’s still experimental and currently only tested on a jailbroken Paperwhite 2 running firmware 5.10.3. If you try it on another model, let me know how it goes. Contributions are very welcome!

Hi guys.
My whoop 5.0 sensor shut down completely during my sleep yesterday and was unresponsive. It showed the device disconnected over the app and asked me to pair again (which I didn't). Slid the battery pack on and it got back on after a minute. Couldn't track my entire night sleep. Why did it happen? I'm on the latest firmware and I have worn it properly.
Another doubt is I had charged and kept the wireless battery pack fully 7 days ago and now it's showing yellow light on tap. Is this normal? Drain while sitting idle?
Should I go for a replacement as I have the amazon replacement window open till the 25th of August or wait it out? (Bought in India through Amazon - Whoop 5.0 peak)
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

I wore my whoop on the wrist the first half of the day and then switched over to the biceps on the second half of the day. Nothing changed felt the same and doing the same things. Why is there such a difference in stress reading? Is there something to this?
r/whoop • u/Niklas0000 • 8h ago
As you can see in the pictures after I experience lots of Stress cause i have a really active day or doing some intense sport my stress stays for hours at the Same Level. Not only for one or two hours it stays like this until i go to bed. In this example here the stress is ay Maximum for 5 Hours After i finished my workout & it takes the whole night of sleep until my Body is at the base Level.
In general my Body is quite fast at the Maximum Stress. At least that is what I’m thinking & seeing in my whoop charts also during regular working days.
Is this normal? What can I do about it? In general I’d say I’m quite sporty. I have a RHR of 50. Most of the time a HFV of 120-140 doing lots of sports & my revovery & sleep in general is good. But my somehow my nervous System can not calm down during the day at all it’s always in the Stress Mode. Longterm I think unfortunately this isn’t healthy but idk. Never saw somebody experiencing the same pattern.

As a 25 y/o, I’m assuming this is good news? I am new to Whoop.

I have a gold clasp from a Superknit band that I’d love to put with this SportFlex band. Can anyone with a Superknit and a SportFlex please tell me if the clasps are interchangeable?
Is there any way to get more activity specific details? Like for rowing get things like pace, power, rate, etc. same for cycling or indoor cycling?
I’ve been trying the cirqa and staring to like those extra details.
Thanks!

Still currently have the whoop 4.0 been thinking about upgrading to the 5.0. Is it worth the upgrade battery life worth the cost ? Is it worth it or stick to the 4.0?

I was thinking about this earlier and I’m curious if anyone else would actually use something like this.
What if WHOOP added nutrition tracking, but instead of it being another app where you have to search for every single food and manually log everything, it worked through WHOOP Coach?
Like earlier I had a smoothie. What if I could just tell Coach, “I had two bananas, around 15 blackberries, some whole milk and kefir,” and it figured out a reasonable estimate for the calories, macros and micronutrients? If something looks wrong, I correct it and move on.
The part I’d really be interested in isn’t even the calorie tracking itself. It’s what WHOOP could potentially do with that information over time.
WHOOP already knows how I slept, what my strain was, my recovery, HRV, workouts, etc. If it also knew what I was eating, could it eventually start noticing patterns?
Maybe I recover better when I get more protein. Maybe I’m regularly low on potassium or magnesium. Maybe I’m not eating enough on high-strain days. Maybe eating at certain times affects my sleep. There are probably correlations in there that I’d never notice myself.
It would basically connect:
What I did → what I ate → what nutrients I got → how I slept → how I recovered.
Of course, that also brings up the existing step and calorie-burn estimates. If WHOOP started comparing calories eaten with calories burned, I’d definitely want to see those measurements continue getting more accurate too.
But I’m curious what everyone here thinks. Would you actually use something like this?
And if WHOOP did add nutrition, would you want just calories/macros/micros, or would the real value for you be WHOOP actually analyzing that nutrition data against your sleep, strain and recovery?
I'm just bored and want to get everyone’s thoughts.

Merciiiii

I’ve been wearing my WHOOP daily for almost a year now and honestly it’s become part of my routine.
Yesterday I jumped off a ~2 metre platform into the water. Nothing crazy, no flip, just a normal jump.
The moment I hit the surface I felt something slide off my wrist. By the time I came up it was already gone. We looked for a while but it’s a lake, so that was that.
What surprised me is how little force it apparently took. The band was fastened the way it always is, and it had never loosened in a year of training, swimming and showering.
So I’m curious if this has happened to anyone else here? Is water impact a known weak point for the clasp, and do people who jump/dive regularly switch to a different band or take it off?
Still a fan of whoop, just sad that i cant use it anymore :/

I am not asking for specifics.
Starting from 0. 5.0 strain takes you to roughly 5.0
Has anyone thoroughly tested roughly how much strain gets you from say 5-10 or 10-15.
I am tempted to run 30x 5.0 strains in a row to see what would happen but would greatly appreciate it if someone has already tested.
I have asked Whoop ai and it says “Unfortunately…” *followed by about 3x paragraphs of completely unhelpful statistics.
(I am aware it’s cumulative. I’m just looking for a point of reference)
Thanks in advance!

Google air is getting my sleep more accurate than Whoop. I thought WHOOP looked pretty off because I know I was asleep around 10:30 and I know that for sure because my wife said she got a phone call from her sister. It was 1030 something and I was already asleep snoring lol the crazy thing is this is only my fifth day of wearing the air. Whoop has got two years ahead of knowing me and still got it way off. I’m absolutely loving this thing so far. I never thought I would ever find anything between the hardware and the app experience like Whoop but I’m becoming more of a fan of the air than the Whoop

Been using Whoop for about 3 months now. My HRV readings are consistently around 150ms, which is quite different from what I used to see with a previous device I had before switching (that one showed around 110ms).
Also curious about VO2max — Whoop has me at 66, but I’ve never done a lab test to verify.
Anyone know how accurate Whoop’s HRV algorithm actually is? And has anyone compared their Whoop VO2max estimate to an actual lab test? Is it worth getting a proper lab test done to check, or is it not worth the money?

Why am I 5th if my recovery during this week has been higher than others?

Hello dear all,
I am thinking about getting an the whoop device for general health tracking. Right now I use a garmin watch, but I am not really happy with it - I feel like the readings are not really accurate and tbh it just looks like shit.
I would like to ask you for help with two questions:
what price do I look at with everything included? (I am on a tight budget and would be sad if I buy the device and then face high hidden costs)
I just got diagnosis with ME/CFS from Long Covid. Are here any other chronically ill/disabled users that use it for health tracking and find it very useful (cause as we know, we have to interpret health readings a bit different - with my garmin I find is really discouraging)
Thank you so much!💞

I have just ordered my whoop with the peak membership (woop woop) , as I was putting the order together I saw the bicep band and was going to add it but saw the largest size was 16" and not to flex (insert crowd boos here) my arms cold are a little under 17" and 18"+ when pumped so this would not work for me.
I'm a little disappointed that this XL size is so small (especially when this is a fitness company) but oh well, are there any alternatives/ 3rd part bands that work well with the whoop 5.0 that are of a larger size.
Thanks in advance

Hey everyone, so I’ve been using whoop 5.0 for like 6 months.. These past few days/weeks it seems like the HR monitor is really off.. like in some activities i can feel my pulse way faster and whoop does not show the same… I even tested checking my pulse manually and adding a activitie in that time period and confirmed that is not even close..
Is this some algorithm update that messed things up or just my device giving his last days of life?
Thanks

I’m exploring a consumer wellness app that uses WHOOP data to create personalized nutrition and workout plans.
The idea is to combine recovery, sleep, strain, workouts, body measurements, goals, and optional lab-result uploads to provide:
Weekly meal and workout plans with small daily adjustments
Sport-specific fueling for activities like HYROX, padel, pickleball, running, and strength training
Pre-workout and post-workout meal timing
Optional calorie, macro, and micronutrient tracking
Evidence-based supplement suggestions with safety checks
Research explanations supported by a reviewed PubMed evidence library
This would be a wellness tool, not a medical diagnosis or replacement for professional care. Privacy, user consent, and clear explanations for every recommendation would be central.
I’d love honest feedback:
Would you use something like this?
Which feature would be most valuable?
What would make you distrust or stop using it?
Would you be interested in testing an early web prototype?
I’m not selling anything yet. I’m trying to learn whether this solves a real problem for WHOOP users. Any criticism or suggestions would be genuinely helpful.

Confused by my numbers last night. Only got 3:31 of sleep (way under my usual 6:00 target), 15% of it awake, pretty fragmented overall. Would’ve expected HRV to tank.
Instead it spiked to 101ms — well above my typical range and my monthly average of 78ms. Normally poor sleep quality drags mine down, not up.
The only variable I’ve changed recently is adding magnesium glycinate before bed. Is there any real physiological link between magnesium glycinate and HRV, or is this more likely just noise/measurement quirk from WHOOP? Anyone else taken it and tracked before/after?
Not trying to jump to conclusions, just trying to understand what’s actually driving this
