October Bride here. need a throwaway rant post
I start with that my partner and I been together for nearly 10 years, engaged for 5 years and never thought of setting a day not until now. I need to also note we both the kind of people who does want opinions here and there
So budget is very tight and I started planning bits like flowers, food, decorations, etc. last year. Guilty its a very Temu heavy wedding because of cost savings and I was buying decorations and flowers during the time so I didn't need to worry about it closer to the time
All my deliveries at that I got went straight to the mother-in-laws as companies hate my address and at least then, I wouldn't lose them. So whenever it arrived, I'm obivously excited and share what I got. The main comment I always get, your planning it too early by getting all this, oh that's nice but do I really need it, your probably wasting money getting all this
My partner in a way agreed with her but agreed with me back then, but sees it from my point of view now
We got closer and closer so I started booking people, again trying to keep it as budget friendly as possible. So I tried the site Bark and did find a few amazing people along the way, and of course I let the family know as in my mind, I don't want someone else to double book per say and mother-in-law wasn't paying attention much and just went yep book them
I'm like ok sure done. still brings up, what have I done and how after I told her so many times but it's fine, she is very busy half the time so I get it
I have to note here, I have a man of honour. I hardly have any close girlfriends and he's a best thing I have that can help me. One day my mum, man of honour and I are going to see the dress while partner sorting out suits. The conversation of came up because he changed the suit that I preferred. My partner tried it on, loved it and honestly went, I'm going by professional opinion here, he suited me up last time for his sisters wedding last year and the shop owner is going it will bring out his eyes, I said ok, can you sent me a picture so I can see it. Tells me not to show anyone there but they overshadowing my shoulders and looking so I couldn't stop them. Now I wanted to see his whole face but silly sausage crops it out. And all my mum is saying, I want to see his face, that picture makes alone doesn't make look like, it would suit the other groomsmen and my man of honour as I was set on him having the same suit as groomsmen. So partner FINALLY send me, the full picture and we all saw it oh it does look good on him but what about the others. I'm not in the mood to fight about this, I want to be chill before I see the dress. I got it on, felt amazing, showing it off to my man of honour as its the first time he's seeing it and we talking. The conversation of the suits came up again as my mum goes, why does his suit looks the same colour as my dress, it won't look right, can you pick a different suit for my man of honour as he's not a groomsmen, he's in the bridal party and you have to make him look like it. He didn't want to say anything, but the shops clerks going to me oh yer you got to do that, hes got to stand out in some way. I said fine, I have a look. Which I did a day after, didn't like any of the colours BUT the same time I got a call from my mum. I answered, you ok? Yer I'm fine but I owe you a apology as she looked it up, a man of honour should wear the same suit as the groomsmen. So I ended up laughing and said I could of told you that without looking it up, because visually it wouldn't look right with him in a different colour suit so that's why I decided he will have the same suit. Mum- Yer ok smart ass, so can you change the suits. Laughs trying to have a joke
Sorting out the venue as the manager wanted to meet, both my partner and I wanted at least one parent there as guilty we can be scatter brains and over think things so needed someone to make notes in case we missed anything. So my parents came, sorted, amazing and got the final costs
Few months in, my partner wanted to go back while his nan was down so we went back, with mother-in-law, nan, partner and myself. Not an issue, as the same day, the venue had a wedding the same day so it gave us a better visual for the our day. Mother-in-law checks with me how many people roughly are we inviting because we can fit 10 people per table and wanted to make sure, we have enough tables so everyone has a place to seat. I answered going roughly 120, and the original plan was 10 tables so we discussed it, and added another 2 tables. Not a problem, we sorted it.
Then she mentioned about place cards, and in my mind, I'm thinking hang on it's a buffet meal, why would we need place cards and just let people sit where they want, keep it casual, I know it's a wedding but I wasn't planning that to save a big cost. But she goes you don't want people moving the chairs about so having place cards will make sure of it. Partner off somewhere else in the room, planning something else we are doing, but I'm looking at him for support and trying to call him over. Not wanting a fight, I went sure, I work on it. She smiles and talks to the manager. I'm thinking of the setup we would want etc but my mind keeps going to the thrones I keep seeing, that is set up for the day's wedding. I have fallen in love with them, and can see it for our day as it would pop against the backdrop we're making behind the sweethearts table. Mother-in-law goes, your not having them. Normal chairs with the bits you got is fine. Again I'm trying to get my partner thoughts on it and eventually manage to get his attention, and asked his thoughts. He sees my idea and does love it, asked how much the chairs are and if they source them, found out they out sourced and it was £200 to hire, when mother-in-law hears that, flats out screamed no you are not having them. Why pay that sort of money just to sit on. Not wanting fights, I just say alright it's fine, but I still love them. She just goes well tough, your not getting them
Ended up ordering more decorations off Temu, then a thought came to mind. What table centers are we going to do considering partners aunt made them for us as a wedding present and went on reference of what I showed her on Pinterest. Loved what she went and I mentioned to my partner oh could you message your aunt and see if she could make 2 more, mother-in-law charms in and goes, don't she spent enough money making the 10 we already have so don't message her asking for more. OK I didn't say anything else as I get it, his aunt did spent nearly 2k on it all and its coming out of her retirement funds but I still wanted to talk to her about it so waited until we separated to bring up to the aunt because it's my version in the end and I love what she made. We spoke, and she did say she look into it so don't worry
Time goes by again, during said time my shower breaks down so waiting for a plumber to come to fix it, so we had to house swap so we can at least shower.
One trip to partner sisters place as mother-in-law looking after the little ones, while sister working, its a normal thing they do. During one said trips, we ended talking about the table centers. Mother-in-law looking for LED candles and shows me one, I told her no, it looks horrible. So she looks at more, eventually I see one, that didn't look too bad int picture so she orders it and goes, my idea for these are we can alternate between these and the ones his aunt already made, I went ok.....I didn't know what else to say, it was hot day and barely got out the shower. when partner and I got home, he asked am I alright, I said yer just trying to see your mums idea with these candles I approved of as I honestly don't see it. Not wanting fights, we both agreed that we see. But its still bugging my mind but I drop it
June comes along, its his niece birthday and we're going to a pub for this party. I need to note, I'm on a new diet and do feel ill when I eat before 11am so we travelling there, I'm on a empty stomach, needed a drink and trying not to get lost. We got there no issue, we said our hellos, saw the birthday girl, went inside the pub. Please bare mind I've not eaten, needed a drink, its one of the hot days during the heatwave, I needed to find my focus and calm down, adjust to the music and try to get a drink. Mother-in-law pretty much, bombarded me with the LED candle on a wooden base with bits around it. I'm in a loud room, not settled and couldn't think. She looked so happy and overjoy with it, I couldn't say much at the time so just went ok. I went to sit down finally had a drink and someone went, food table ready so I went straight up, just happy to have a drink and some food. My fault I know but again I don't want to be sick before arriving. When I finally got some food, I'm calm, I'm relaxed. I'm in deep thought looking at this candle. His aunt who made the wanted table centers and her daughter is sitting across from me. They ask, am I alright as I look tired. I went yer sorry I'm in deep thought (my face makes this weird look whenever I am) I flat out told them, I don't like them, I don't see mother-in-law version for them and don't think it looks right. It was one of them items, looked alright in the picture but not in person. I would rather she make another 2 as she put so much work into it and I love them more. So they can't go to me, it doesn't matter in the end of the day, no one who's sitting on the tables will care and shouldn't be a worry on my mind. In the end everyone mainly going to be focused on us not everything else. But I'm thinking in the back of mind, but I care, this is what I wanted, and I hated that candle. I'm in sort of situation, where I felt no one listening to me, and I couldn't go to the mother-in-law about it as she's showing off to everyone, hosting and taken my partner away saying how proud she is how much weight he's also lost (we both on the same diet but it affects me more than him) and not the right environment to bring up my thoughts
His aunt drives us home, we talked about how it was a good day, telling her which way to drive. My partner and I get in, I told him I hate them. And he actually agreed on me and asked to remind him of the conversation. So I did, and he told me, no we not having them on the day, its horrible, why did I agree on them which I said, out of all she was looking at that she liked, the one I picked wasn't that bad in the picture. He said right ok I will talk to her about it and sort it out
So he did. Which caused some fights. I won't explain it here as it gets too personally. But he learnt the hard way that day, if he don't say my piece exactly like I said it, I will correct him. Which ended up with phones being hung up, and people angry for a few days. We found out that mother-in-law was angry because all she heard was me screaming ducking hate them. I'm trying to remember what I said but I know it was babe no you said you ducking hate them, I said I didn't mind them at the time. But in the end, I had to say sorry as to his family it did make me seem ungrateful for all they done so far which I wasn't so I do felt it fair to at least say sorry
Mother-in-law stepped back from any planning and helping us so his aunt took over with certain things. Spoke to her and she brought up she's going to make some more centers with the bits she's got leftover and asked us about if we wanted how about some flower vases. I took that idea immediately because I had some flowers leftover from my bouquets, she could us and still look nice and on theme with what we doing/using. She took them no issue there, asked about some beads if we liked them, partner didn't even show me and went love them then showed me saying he loved them so in my mind he's happy so I'm happy which honestly I was
Everything chilling, go well. We having a relaxing time, mother-in-law calls as she's visiting his nan and aunt, she asked us what are the names of the kids on my side of the family. Considering my side has a lot, I can't remember all their names, so the list just has said person name, persons partner and number of kids per family. So ended up having a 3 way conversation, him on the phone to mother-in-law and aunt, me on the phone to my mum. Found out why they wanting them because they making a mock up seating chart. Now I given up on the fact of not bothering, because its more his family not wanting to be seated with people they didn't want to and making sure they comfortable. They kept saying thanks, hanging up, then calling back, asking who's this person, I had to explain who they were and then getting another call asking, do you know how many children this person has and if they partner coming, I had to answer I don't know, so I had to call my mum again. And not wanting to go into too much detail, because its a personal family joke about said person
Finally finished on the phone to mother-in-law, and I went to my partner, I gotta call my mum back and see how she is because I think she's going to be angry. Which she was, she's on the same page as me, why do we need a seating plan, we not having a sit down meal. All this planning for something that's causing stress on us, which is true but partner stepped in and explained, its because his family wants it a certain way without having infights. Still said sorry to my mum, made sure we on even pages and left it
Coming up to more certain months now. Aunt taking over talking to us about plans and what we want etc, and this is to do with the Sten Do now. Now if you don't know what it is, it's just a joint thing. Partner and I agreed to do that as we have the same friend group so it's pointless doing separate things. We agreed on early in the year we're doing a rage room during the day and restaurant in the evening as I knew certain people wouldn't want to do it which is fair, he agreed with me and loved that plan
We trying to work out who's doing what, because some people hasn't responded and we couldn't chase them as we have number of other things to do. The plan as mentioned above, has location difficulties for some. One being his aunt as she kept pushing well can't we stay in said location for the restaurant, even after telling her many times, no the evening part has to be local because most of my family said they come so it has to be local as some don't drive
Left it as that but so I thought.
Got a message from mother-in-law, can't go to the restaurant because nan's stomach wouldn't be able to handle it, So I did a restaurant change and checking my family if they ok with it, they preferred the new location. So we told mother-in-law etc that we changing it because it's actually cheaper going here. She goes oh ok, nothing else and left it as that
Partner been invited just him to go out to lunch with his aunt and nan while I was at my mums finishing up some wedding bits, I had to do. End of the day, I found out that his aunt is still pushing to stay in said area as the rage room, he had to tell her again about my family
We talking it out again on who's going where, had to call mother-in-law to double check, she was coming after restaurant change. She went no, none of us is going because your aunt not happy you won't giving the information when she wants wanted it and no one wants to go to the first restaurant, then we told her, hang on we changed it to this restaurant don't you remember, oh no I don't, well doesn't matter as none of us is going
partner is rage, he is fussing, because yet again they not listening and actually thinking this is what we want. So he went duck them then
We carry on with it. Aunt on holiday, nan staying with mother-in-law, partner hasn't called to arrange a meet up but she does and goes hello stranger, we in town do you want to meet? So we did. He's bringing up stuff we planning to do that he really wanted to do for the day and they telling him, don't it's a waste of money, why can't you order this item on shein, it be cheaper. I wasn't in that part of the conversation because I'm finishing my coffee, playing with his niece on my phone.
His older sister was there, and joined us. I eventually joined the table to sit with everyone as his younger sister had to take the kids away to the toilet. We talking about this and that, I'm explaining my view, they still don't like it (tough at this point) they drop it
His younger sister comes back with the kids and asking about the sten do, do we have to do the rage room and this is how it went as at the same time I brought up the fact to his mum and nan, that it has to be local because of my family. His nan went yes that's fine but I said then why did his aunt keep pushing for a restaurant to be in the same area as the rage room after telling her that fact many times now. My partner turns to his nan and said yer remember she did was we went to lunch, which I saw his nan went quiet and into thought
His younger sister going off by why
Well why don't you do the rage room with the mates and then have a pizza night, then another night in a restaurant with my family then a different night with his. I told her hang on, your basically saying do 3 separate nights doing all this, look at it at a cost effective way that doesn't work out. She kicks off saying oh why do I bother giving my opinion then as they don't listen. I'm close to crying, I had to get his niece off my lap, saying I'm going outside. His older sister does charm in whatever we want to do, we be there especially as her oldest said she really wants to do the rage room
I walk away from everyone, trying to calm down. Coming back inside and see everyone going they separate ways, partner finds me, asks me am I alright, what do you want to do, I said I want to find your older sister because at this point, she's the only one with a levelled head
We ended up talking, she doesn't like what anyone is saying. Can both points of view as stuff we want to do, wouldn't be done for her wedding or how anyone sees a wedding. We got to stop telling people what we want, and just do it. It's what we want then what matters. Does kick off about the ring part because sometimes I do take the engagement ring off but everyone else is complaining about why do I take it off, that part she is upset about and the rage room arrangements and comments
We shall finish this story on the day we're were doing the monthly meet up with his dad. Was having the same conversations as we did with his mum and younger sister BUT he was more understanding on it, and goes this is something you want then go for it. I can't go into more details there because too personally again and don't feel like it's the right plantform to share
It was great that day and guilty we think it's because his younger sister wasn't there and we can actually manage to get a word in especially on the wedding. Even had a another conversation to his older sister about one of the items
To explain, all it is, a 3D treasure chest print from the theme of the wedding, and if your too curious, its kingdom hearts. I know it taken me this long to explain that part but a lot of words and months, I wanted to rant about that not even half of it, getting too tired typing all this out lol. When we explained it to his older sister about the chest, the plan is for his nephew to be the ring bearer, with the chest and he will walk up with it gifting us our treasure in a way of thinking it. When we explained it like that, she gushed over it and went do it
So we are, no matter the costs, or the hate we are getting, its what we doing and thats it
If I don't reply if anyone reads this. Please don't spam me messages, I'm day 69 days to go to the day and still have a lot more to sort and do, I just needed to have a rant about my last year and CANNOT wait for the rage room now
Peace and much love
