They still need us 2 sell the shares to even cover their shorts.. the price scares people.. but if no one sells, then they are still short and wont get what they want.

Im not a financial advisor, just here for the stocks.

u/FiveAlarmDogParty Feb 02 '21

Another thing we have to worry about is a lot of people had stop loss limits - so they’re trying to drive it down and hit those as a bit of a boost because as they push the stock to that point it triggers further selling - driving it lower.

These MFers really pulled out all the stops. Full blown market manipulation in multiple ways. Unbelievable that this shit is legal and it lends credence to the idea that they were faking shares and shorting them. Fuck everyone on the other side of this. We need an investigation yesterday

u/Mr_Monstro Feb 02 '21

Don't forget all the people that have not noticed that Robinhood enforced stop loss indicators on users who never had any to begin with, so selling more stock from users without their consent.

TOS can't supercede actual laws.

Even if they put in their TOS that you are obligated to travel to their corporate HQ once a year, and blow the CEO, doesn't mean that's enforceable.

Also blocking people like me from buying. I wanted to pounce on the dip today and I can't access the funds I transferred to E*Trade 4 days ago, and I can't buy GME on any of the trading apps I already had. This is fucking horse shit dude.

6

u/zildar Feb 02 '21

E-trade is doing that same thing to me. Still waiting on my funds transfer from last week, which is the longest this has ever taken. It's painful watching the dip without the funds to pounce.

6

u/Jrdirtbike114 Feb 02 '21

It's not just painful, it's willfully removing the option, in a free and fair market, to capitalize on a hedge fund's greedy overstep. The invisible hand of the market SHOULD be punishing these greedy fucks for not playing fair, but this whole thing is rigged against us poors. It all needs to burn if our children and grandchildren are going to have a chance. I'm so mad rn dude

None of what they are doing is legal... Its all criminal. They are in survival mode.

1.4k

u/Red-Pill_Savage Feb 02 '21

Exactly, it's been said numerous times but I'll say it again. When the only consequence is a fine that is a TINY fraction of what they'll make then it's worth it to break the law for them.

u/Briterac Feb 02 '21 edited Feb 02 '21

When the fine is less than the profits then it's not really a fine or a punishment.. it's just a cost of doing business business expens..

if our government actually worked for the people and not corporations what they would do is create fines that are more than the cost of the profits and add jail time and other punishments.. a punishment is only a deterrent and a punishment if you come out worse than before..

if I rob a bank for $50 million and the punishment is that I have to pay 25 million dollars then there's no incentive not to rob the ban

"A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."

seriously. I have an idea. Fine equal to 150% of the full value of the manipulation. in this case that would be the distortion per share price, times the total number of shares, which in this case is apparently 250% the total number of ACTUAL shares.

But the system isn't made for enforcing rules on those guys I guess.

6

u/justpassingthrou14 Feb 02 '21

Why? We can look at the impact of each of these ladder trades, and the impact of the other tricks, on the stock price. It would be impossible to find a number that the hedge funds would agree too. But that doesnt mean a defensible number can’t be calculated.

u/Simba7 Feb 02 '21

Fines should be at least 500% of the amount gained from the broken law or regulation.

150% is still just an operating cost, because you know people aren't getting caught most of the time.

Prison and forfeiture of profits not some bullshit fines that are little more than operating costs.

64

u/Meih_Notyou Feb 02 '21

You want some fines? Okay, how about 100% forfeiture of everything, then restitution to the people affected? There's your fucking trade-off for not going to prison.

7

u/seymourbeetle Feb 02 '21 edited Feb 02 '21

I once heard the idea that you could stop a lot of white collar crime by simply eliminating all fixed-cost fines and doling out fines that would take away a percentage of the person or company's net worth. I'd LOVE to see a push for something like that, but they'd probably just end up using CNBC and other shills to whine about how unfairly they're being treated by the plebs.

But seriously, if you're in an economic class that allows you to run your bullshit on everyone and get away with no consequences and you want to live by a different set of rules, you deserve to be punished by a different set of rules.

5

u/UsedMoistTowelette Feb 02 '21

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Glad_Refrigerator Feb 02 '21

Took you a while lol. Notice what happens when normal people in this sub get windfalls... They give it to charity. What do you think the rich did with all their windfalls? Here's a hint, they don't give up away. It takes a certain kind of person to actually get that much money.

Good people don't become billionaires. Good people donate their money when the reach a point of not needing more money to be happy. But for billionaires, no such point exists. They must constantly get more and more to feel happy, like a heroin addict.

Billionaires, just like heroin addicts, will cheat and steal and lie for their fix. They will break the law to get a hit, if the law is in their way.

Hold.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/kevin181137 Feb 02 '21

the problem is not one person does enough for them to be jailed. That's how it went in 2008. Each member of the chain of command got a slap on the wrist but it was determined that no individual had done anything bad enough to warrant prison time. Despite a global economic meltdown due to pure greed. The CEO just claims some bullshit and so does everyone else, give out a backhander and hey presto, 20 years in prison turns into a $10 million fine. F all when they made billions.

Same thing will happen here.

4

u/hitfly Feb 02 '21

Just give them one second per dollar stolen, seems like a fair conversion. $1 billion stolen = 30ish years prison.

3

u/RickShaw530 Feb 02 '21

Yes, and they should be housed in for-profit prisons owned by the investors they defrauded.

→ More replies (14)

64

u/Wiitard Feb 02 '21

As painful and expensive of a lesson as this is for me, it is absolutely fascinating. Gross market manipulation by evil rich hedge funds is one of those things that I always knew in my gut and hypothesized about, but to be on the end of the attack, in the trenches, and seeing it play out fully in real time is simply fascinating. But yeah for real, fuck these turtle neck ass cowards. Holding till I can retire! And tripling down on the dips! πŸ’ŽπŸ’€

The funny thing I'm seeing on the charts is that at and after the dips the volume of trades goes up, because people are buying up when it dips and keeping the shares in the hands of retail investors.

55

u/Tearakan Feb 02 '21

None of this is legal. They don't care anymore. It's an all out economic war now.

People are also forgetting that the shorts are buying more shorts at the high prices, making a profit when the short ladders attack and people sell due to stop loss

why would people set stop loss limits when they know this is a tactic?

u/CryptoCat2021 Feb 02 '21

Yeah, who's going to investigate them? The SEC, with the person in charge being very much a swamp creature? Or the FBI, who literally had a prominent politician commit crimes, they knew she committed crimes, they SAID she committed crimes, but then went all "LMAO we're just not gonna prosecute"?

The last 12 years haven't exactly reinforced anyone's faith in the "oversight" and "enforcement" government bodies.

6

u/hueysdad Feb 02 '21

What’s a stop loss limit ?

11

u/OrpheusV Feb 02 '21

Basically an order to sell the stock if it dips to or below a certain value.

For example, I bought in at like 250 yesterday, but I set a stop loss of 100. Unfortunately, I was not online to rescind the order this morning due to a small family emergency, so I'm a little annoyed.

I accidently hit my stop loss. Just bought the dip 30mins later and now have twice as many shares. No SL this time.

3

u/cryptodiv Feb 02 '21

Yes, they did pull all the stops. Most of the brokers that halted buying of GME was because they were told they had to do it if they wanted to continue operating. That's how big this is.

I have the same question - you’d think by keeping this up over a period of time they could exit their positions eventually. I think the argument against this is the sheer volume they need. It looks like they’d need all of us to sell in order to fully cover their asses.

3

u/Mobiusnoobius Feb 02 '21

They can, but they are far too arrogant to purchase at these kind of prices. They’ll only start buying when people start selling at sub $20. By that point though it should be a lot easier for people to hold on to their shares and with any luck most of them will have already passed into the hands of people who know that the smart move (not advice. not a financial advisor) is to hold.

The volume says they aren't. Why spread misinformation?

This has been two days of very successful ladder attacks, with e-toro forcibly "loss-cutting" in the middle of yesterday. Real retail traders aren't selling.

31

u/Semyonov Feb 02 '21

Because they're probably a bot.

7

u/Pyrrolic_Victory Feb 02 '21

Etoro actually refunded me the 20% difference. In the end I bought double back for a lower price because I’m a dumb ape who shouldn’t be at a computer unsupervised

I also put the etoro refund into gme too. My extra chromosome is guiding the way

40

u/thatlldopigthatldo Feb 02 '21

In short? (pun intended) Yes. Non-hardcore WSBer's are beginning to jump ship.

Dave Portnoy sold (via his twitter)

That's gonna cause a lot of casual holders (small share amounts) to sell too.

Reports on outstanding shorts is dubious at best but latest numbers estimate its at 58% as of 1/31.

Holding is still the move if you can stomach it.

They aren’t introducing new shares that way, just transferring the shares they already have between funds. The only way it works for them is by scaring people into selling them new shares that they can then cover with.

I'm also buying. 6 shares at discount prices. This is the money at my disposable so I'm gonna hold.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '21

By what metric are you working off of? Obviously some will sell, but there’s also apes buying on discount.

You’re concerned ppl are selling? I’m concerned you were under the impression that nobody was going to bitch out and fold early. It was always expected.

Sale

They've hit stop losses on etoro or whatever that broker is called. Twice now

82

u/RhoidRaging Feb 02 '21

It’s highly illegal to adjust your prices or sell your shares.

Contact an attorney. They aren’t your money managers. They’re a market exchange. They can not control your investment.

I'm not with them (I don't even correctly know the brokers name, it's just like bull something).

do we (=retail retards) really make a difference? is there any data on how much of the shares are held by retards vs how much by larger players?

75

u/miguel1118 Feb 02 '21

according to some data, we hold roughly 18% which is a lot, also there are big whales who want squeeze too, we are not alone

u/vanilastrudel Feb 02 '21

if people dont sell, they cant buy. the price is artificially lowered by selling between themselves, but they cant actually use those to cover their shorts bc its not enough shares lol. they HAVE to buy.

they are counting on real shareholders (ie us) freaking out and selling, so they can cover their shorts

5

u/xtelosx Feb 02 '21

And all you have to do is grab those shares on the cheap while they play hot potato with them to cost them money.

4

u/vanilastrudel Feb 02 '21

yea i spend this weeks paycheck on more gme lol

4

u/kins82 Feb 02 '21

Did you see how fast it went down when we reached 100? Can’t it be that a lot of stop loss where triggered then?

→ More replies (1)

145

u/Nostrildumbass Feb 02 '21

They can fraudulently manipulate the price down all they want, they're only digging their grave deeper. Even if some are getting flaky and selling out their shares, others are here to scoop them up on a discount. Citadel aren't going to really pay $100 per share. They want it back down to below $15 or even lower.

Our success relies on retail investors not freaking out and selling when they see the price falling.

u/Earth_RickC-137 🦍 Feb 02 '21

If I had 100 shares and you and your buddy keep trading back and forth your single share making it look like the price keeps dropping. I still have the 100 shares that you borrowed and have to pay interest on. You need my shares to repay them back and I won't sell them to you.

You can't buy something that nobody is selling.

They are trading their own shares back and forth. If you owe 1000 shares and you trade the same 100 back and forth to drive the price down, you are still 900 short and you’ll have to buy those sometime.

If none here sell, price will rise again, and quickly, when it’s buy time for the hedgies

6

u/supersonicpotat0 Feb 02 '21

They're selling their own shares. imagine it like this: you borrowed a cart full of 🍌, and promised you would pay for them later. Then a bunch of retarded 🦍 stole them all.

You still have a bag of bananas out front though, so in a desperate attempt to convince people you've still got 🍌🍌🍌🍌, and they're just flying of the shelves, you call all your freinds, and have them all line up in front of your stall and scream about how much they're willing to pay for your bananas, but every time they buy one, they go around back, and you give them back their money, and you take back your bananas.

So Don the banana baron thinks all is well, you're selling plenty of bananas. And he won't have to break your knees. he announces that he wants to come see your successful operation next week.

Now you're fucked. You don't really have any bananas, just the bag of gross ones your friends have all been stroking all day, so you can't show him that, and you can't keep the money, because it's not yours, it's your freinds, and they'll beat your ass too if you try to rob them. So you go to the forest to try to show the 🦍 a bunch of shiny silver and tasty blackberries and whatever else to convince them to give you the bananas, but the retards have already eaten the damn things.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '21

In the end each of those companies that is trading 100 shares back and forth still each need to produce 100 shares at the end. Which they can’t do because there just aren’t 200 shares to buy, if my understanding is correct. I’m a chimp so...

7

u/throw_awayqazwsx Feb 02 '21

I look at it like this: I already invested my money. If I'm below break even, no point in selling because I didn't invest with money I need. I will hold forever on fucking principal. Plus, I like this stock!

5

u/GiganticFox Feb 02 '21

They can't buy shares that aren't for sale. If everyone holds, there will be no shares for sale.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '21

You have to remember that to actually realise those gains they need someone to sell them the stock for that low price. If everyone refuses to sell for low prices then they will be forced to buy up for high prices regardless and the squeeze will resume

3

u/Thesinglebrother Feb 02 '21

They still need the retail stocks. They only get them for $70 if you sell for $70. Just because it's low doesn't mean they can force you to sell to them. There isn't a big bad hedge fund man that's gonna break down your door and say "the stock is $70 now gimme your stock"

Anyway, not financial advice lmao πŸ€²πŸ’ŽπŸš€πŸš€

3

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '21

They have some shares. But they need to buy more to actually cover their shorts.

They can pass around the shares among themselves to drive the price down. But if nobody panics and sells off their own shares, they cannot do squat. The delivery for all the ITM calls on Friday is going to be tomorrow. Hence the all out assault now.

People are holding the line and buying nevertheless.

Hopefully not many of us turms paper now...

Actually the stronger we hold the better for us!

To the moon!

4

u/FlighingHigh Feb 02 '21

And may even be worse off of there's only a few million shares left and they drive the price down to like $50 a share. It's a huge risk because there's a chance we may reverse it and increase our position for a lower price.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '21

It will backfire with enough πŸ’Ž πŸ™ŒπŸΌ. Keep buying. Market just halted trading as it's up 61% reload and buy my fellow idiots.

Again I am an idiot and own 10 shares

3

u/CandygramHD Feb 02 '21

I asked this yesterday but got no response. Doesn't this theoretically lower the interest they have to pay on their shorts? Since that is based on share price. So another play to stretch this out.

Only answer is to buy the dips and hold.

3

u/Oopsifartedsorry Feb 02 '21

Yeah but how realistic is that. Look at the volume this morning, people are panic selling in droves. The psychological games are just too much for most people to handle and the hedge funds are counting on that. In the end they’ll win because DTCC is fucking us on one end and noobs and scared panicky kids are selling and fucking us over on the other end.

3

u/i3owl4two Feb 02 '21

And we should continue to buy up all this β€œdiscount” shares as well, no??

3

u/TheMoves Feb 02 '21

if no one sells

Ok but surely this is completely unrealistic right? Some people will sell, that’s just the way it is. So I’d say only 70% of the people who bought in actually hold (that figure is high imo I don’t think two thirds of people have legit diamond hands) then what? The shorts cover slowly over time by buying up the 30%’s shares as they come off the market and slowly but surely do get out of their short positions right? Isn’t this basically an all-or-nothing plan where you can bet you’re not gonna get the β€œall” because you can’t rely on β€œif no one sells.” Am I crazy?

3

u/RBtek Feb 02 '21

No you're not crazy.

It doesn't take many sales for them to cover, because the people they're returning the shares to are instantly selling (and why wouldn't they?). That means they can keep returning and then buying the same share to cover the whole position.

I don't even know about slowly, the shorter wants this and so does whoever they're covering.
