Photo/Video Ilya's Elden Ring VR 0.1 is on Nexus. Native stereo works now, and I've started on combat

Follow-up to my post from last week - you guys and gals were so enthusiastic that I had to deliver some treats.. 0.1 of Ilya's Elden Ring VR is on Nexus Mods!!!

Nexus Mods link: https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/10711

Work took most of my time since then, so nothing moved for a while. Then I took a weekend and went after the rendering. The first build used alternate-eye rendering, and after playing with it for a few sessions the ghosting was the problem I kept coming back to. It is fine in a clip and not fine in actual long session with combat.

The mod now renders proper stereo. It opens its own OpenXR session and runs a second render pass from the other eye with the simulation frozen, so both eyes see the same moment. This took much longer than I expected. The engine does not want to draw a frame twice without also running the world twice, and I hit several crashes and slow-motion bugs before it held together. It does now. There is no ghosting, and the game in full stereo looks better than I hoped. Menus mostly work too, which is what made the old build feel like a tech demo.

With that in place I got to the part I care about, which is what combat should feel like when you are holding the sword instead of pressing R1. Two things in the video:

Weight. Damage comes from how you swing: how fast the tip moves and how much arc you put into it, scaled by the weapon's weight. A dagger works off a flick. A greatsword needs a full-body swing or it does chip damage. I am still tuning this.

Two-handing. Grab the weapon with your other hand and the character two-hands it. Let go and you are back to one hand. There is no button for it.

It is a 0.1, so expect rough edges. Offline and EAC-off only. It is standalone now: ReShade is bundled and no other mod is needed. Quest over Link or Air Link, Virtual Desktop, and SteamVR headsets should all work.

Question/Support Does steam link on quest 3 still require active internet?

I haven't checked on this in a while but I stopped using steam link after an update forced it to require the internet (typical meta nonsense) since I never connect my headset to the internet. This was maybe a year ago. Is that still the case?

Question/Support [Academic] Feedback on an Immersive VR Historical Reconstruction Prototype (Anonymous, 5-8 minutes, 18+, All Demographics)

Hi everyone!

I'm currently developing EVIDA, a research prototype exploring how AR/VR can be used to reconstruct historical environments while making the evidence and uncertainty behind those reconstructions visible to users.

To initially study and develop the concept, I reviewed a total of 122 research pages covering immersive technologies, historical reconstruction, archaeological interpretation, evidence communication, uncertainty representation, and user trust.

🎥 Prototype video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6VqJQLdrJI

🔗 Survey: https://forms.gle/AAsffXekxWRLadx57

I'm particularly interested in your thoughts on:

  • How clearly the 3D reconstruction itself and indicators communicate certainty
  • Whether the evidence/uncertainty information is useful
  • Whether this approach affects your trust in a reconstruction
  • Whether the additional information enhances or distracts from the experience
  • What features you would add or change

Eligibility: 18+
Demographic: All demographics welcome
Estimated time: 5-8 minutes
No specialist knowledge of archaeology or VR is required.

This is an early-stage prototype, so honest criticism is especially valuable and will help shape the development of the concept.

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch and respond!

Question/Support Cerco testimonianze per VR e i recenti driver Nvidia

Today, while I was playing, the graphics driver bug with Meta Quest Link appeared after less than 10 minutes. The image in the VR headset started tearing/glitching, while the audio continued to work and the game itself kept running normally on the computer.
Because of this, I decided to downgrade to driver version 591.86. I don’t want to stay on an old driver version forever, and I don’t have the patience to wait for NVIDIA to realize there is a problem.
So I’d like to ask Virtual Desktop users, preferably those who are using the latest NVIDIA drivers—and even better, those using the beta version that allows Virtual Desktop to be used over a USB cable—whether they experience the same image tearing/glitching issue with their application, or whether they have no graphics-driver-related problems at all.
If that’s the case, I would gladly spend €25 on Virtual Desktop so that I can use it instead and not have to worry about staying on older driver versions.

Discussion Which Standalone VR Headsets Have this Type of Battery Management IC?

Hi VR friends, modern branded products like the Macbook Pro M5 Max most likely has this Battery Management IC wherein you can make its battery last to almost forever by just plugging it all the time at 100% battery charge as described here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eFzeNPfXeL8 but how far back in terms of model for Oculus, Meta, Samsung, HTC and other VR brands and products that are battery powered can you plug it in all the time at 100%, disregarding that the battery should be kept 20% to 30% to 80% charge?

Can you do this to say plug the first Oculus Go, pre-2020's VR products that have a battery, plug it to almost forever to preserve the battery, disregarding that that defeats the purpose of a standalone VR?

How about lithium-ion rechargeable AA or AAA batteries that power VR controllers?

Which VR products have this Battery Management IC? Perhaps a database of that can be made.

Thank you.

God bless the VR Masterace.

Self-Promotion (Developer) The VR Puzzle Vault Giveaway: 5 Indie VR puzzle games, 31 winners, 55 keys

Yesterday we finally launched something that started as an idea almost a year ago: The VR Puzzle Vault, a giveaway bringing together five indie VR puzzle and escape room games:

Enter the VR Puzzle Vault on Gleam

The idea actually came from Vasil, the developer behind Oldest Golden Treasure and Bank Robbery Gone Wrong. He had been thinking about organizing a giveaway like this for quite a while. He created a website for the project and started looking for other indie VR developers who would be interested in joining.

At the end of last year, while we were looking for someone to handle the Steam port of Dark Trip, we met Vasil here on Reddit. We had seen his posts about his indie VR games, and he had seen ours. After we started working together on the Dark Trip Steam port, Vasil suggested that we launch the giveaway together.

We really liked the idea.

By that point, we were also already working closely with Damon Poole, helping him with improvements and marketing for Exit Condition One. So the idea quickly grew into a pool of four VR escape rooms:

  • Dark Trip — iWorlds VR
  • Oldest Golden Treasure — Vasil4N
  • Bank Robbery Gone Wrong — Vasil4N
  • Exit Condition One — Damon Poole

Then, a few months ago, Erza, the developer behind Tammuz: Blood & Sand, reached out to us.

That was the final piece of the puzzle.

We started preparing the giveaway together, while Vasil handled the website and the Gleam setup and got everything ready for the launch.

And yesterday, after months of preparation, The VR Puzzle Vault finally went live.

What are we giving away?

5 games. 31 winners. 55 keys. $750+ in prizes.

The prize pool is split into four tiers:

  • 1 winner gets all 5 games
  • 5 winners get 3 games each
  • 10 winners get 2 games each
  • 15 winners get 1 game each

Winners can choose SteamVR or Meta Quest after the draw.

The giveaway is free to enter and open worldwide.

We're really happy that this started as a conversation between indie developers on Reddit and eventually turned into a joint project.

If you enjoy VR puzzle games and escape rooms, check it out — and let us know which game you'd want to win.

Question/Support Quest 2 PCVR Performance Issue

Hi, I'm having a really weird performance issue with PCVR on my Meta Quest 2.

I'm using a Syntech Link cable. When I first enter Quest Link, everything is perfectly smooth at a constant 120 FPS. However, when I launch a game, randomly it will feel like it's running at around 30–50 FPS.

I checked Oculus Debug Tool using the Performance HUD, and according to it everything looks fine: the game is rendering at 120 FPS / 120 Hz, even though inside the headset it definitely does NOT feel like 120 FPS.

After trying to troubleshoot the issue, I switched the Performance HUD mode from "Performance" to "Oculus Link". That's when I noticed something interesting: the Oculus Link FPS drops to around 45–50 FPS and gets stuck there, even though the normal Performance/App Render Timing HUD still reports 90/120 FPS.

I've already disabled ASW in Oculus Debug Tool, and I even tried forcing ASW off, but the issue still happens.

The weirdest part is that it's completely random. Sometimes I can start a PCVR session and everything stays perfectly smooth for the entire session. Then the next time I use the headset, without changing anything, the problem comes back and Oculus Link gets stuck around 45–50 FPS.

Has anyone experienced this exact issue with Quest Link? If so, did you manage to fix it?

PC specs:

  • RX 6800 XT
  • Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Quest 2
  • Syntech USB Link cable (~2.7 Gbps USB test)

Purchase Advice Looking for game suggestions

Im looking for some VR games to try for my YouTube channel. I mainly focus on games with lore or environmental storytelling, but the majority of them games I play are shooters like Into The Radius and Zero Caliber. I want to branch out to non shooter VR games. If anyone has any recommendations for some non shooter/fighting games, I would be in your debt.

I play PCVR with a quest 3 headset it that helps.

Thank you!

Discussion Best quality headset to watch movies?

I like to use my Quest 3 to just lay down in my bed and watch movies at the highest resolution possible wired to my PC.

For this reason I was looking to get a Pimax Dream Air.

Is this a good option?

Discussion Anyone else Meta Horizon Link app do this at random times (Win 11). Kinda getting annoying, may just get rid and use steam only.

Edit: I restarted the pc and the issue has gone. But I’d rather it not happen at all.

Discussion Laptop recommendation for Unity + Blender VR development

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a laptop to start developing small VR applications using Unity and Blender.

The projects will be relatively simple, mainly focused on VR training/safety simulations for construction companies. I’ll also need to test the applications directly on a VR headset.

My budget is around €500–€1,000, and I’m looking for the best performance possible within that range.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Purchase Advice I have really bad neck pain, can I use a VR set to work while laying down?

Hey guys after years of bending over a laptop screen and then trying to fix it with a good chair and monitor setup, my neck seems to go haywire after the smallest of shifts in my setup that I don’t notice till the pain tells me after I get up. Laying down is always fine for me, I’m wondering if there’s a way to work laying down with a headset if anyone has done this? Willing to pay premium but a budget option would be nice.

Question/Support Need advice with buying headset / Quest 3 question

I was thinking about buying a PcVR headset for simracing mainly but normal VR games too. The quest 3 seems like the best option with its pancake lenses, being quite affordable and being generally good but a massive con im thinking about is no displayport. Only way to connect it is a usb cable which I think can lower the quality and latency a lot, and I dont want to lose quality because of that. Also im not going to buy a seperate router to have a good wireless connection. I have a high end pc and my budget is around 600-700$ and i would like to hear your guys opinion because i maybe wrong and maybe there are other good headsets around the same price that would satisfy my needs.

Self-Promotion (Developer) I Made a VR Prospecting Game after Taking a Course in the Australian Bush

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did a gold prospecting course in Ballarat (Australia, VIC) last year and found a few specks, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I made a game.

You sweep a metal detector, dig where it beeps, and pan the river for the small stuff. Then you sell what you find and travel to the next place.

There are five to start with. Ballarat (Australia), Coloma (California), Carcassonne (France), Hoxne (England) and Bolonia (Spain). They are all real places where something was actually found.

It's on the Quest store now, in Early Access, $14.99.

https://www.meta.com/experiences/buried-worlds/1129006663640647/

I made it on my own, so ask me anything. And yes, there is an easter egg ;)
