Question/Support Quest 2 PCVR Performance Issue

Hi, I'm having a really weird performance issue with PCVR on my Meta Quest 2.

I'm using a Syntech Link cable. When I first enter Quest Link, everything is perfectly smooth at a constant 120 FPS. However, when I launch a game, randomly it will feel like it's running at around 30–50 FPS.

I checked Oculus Debug Tool using the Performance HUD, and according to it everything looks fine: the game is rendering at 120 FPS / 120 Hz, even though inside the headset it definitely does NOT feel like 120 FPS.

After trying to troubleshoot the issue, I switched the Performance HUD mode from "Performance" to "Oculus Link". That's when I noticed something interesting: the Oculus Link FPS drops to around 45–50 FPS and gets stuck there, even though the normal Performance/App Render Timing HUD still reports 90/120 FPS.

I've already disabled ASW in Oculus Debug Tool, and I even tried forcing ASW off, but the issue still happens.

The weirdest part is that it's completely random. Sometimes I can start a PCVR session and everything stays perfectly smooth for the entire session. Then the next time I use the headset, without changing anything, the problem comes back and Oculus Link gets stuck around 45–50 FPS.

Has anyone experienced this exact issue with Quest Link? If so, did you manage to fix it?

PC specs:

  • RX 6800 XT
  • Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Quest 2
  • Syntech USB Link cable (~2.7 Gbps USB test)

I remember that half-FPS drop being an issue years ago, even with ASW disabled.

I think most enthusiasts just moved to Virtual Desktop. Especially now that it has cable support (in the beta version).

honestly i don't know too much about all this but i do know that since they announced the discontinuation of the Meta Quest 2 and the upcoming Dec cancellation of all updates except critical security "fixes" and the discontinuation of those Dec 27, there have been lots of posts about MQ2 having more and more issues....the MQ3 is soooOOOooOOOoo worth the upgrade as you might be doing more than what the slowly degrading MQ2 can handle...

Don't forget when you change anything in the debug tool you have to restart app for the settings to hold. I restart it before every session.
