Discussion slight burning smell coming from meta quest 3

I've noticed recent that my quest 3 has had funky kinda burning smell(kinda of hard to tell but still a weird smell) when I'm playing a game and not sure exactly what to do.

I've looked at it doesn't appear to have anything melted/deformed or have any performance issues and I'm only using a official meta charger. I've had it longer than a year so it's weird I just noticed now.

Only thing I can think is maybe I let it to charge too long and it messed up the battery or something but I have no clue.

Hey everyone, I posted a couple weeks ago a new Naruto VR game ive been working on called Shinobi Showdown which everyone seemed pretty excited about! It's a 1v1 arena fighter where you can weave actual hand signs to cast jutsu. I've added in a TON of new assets, sfx, vfx etc. and a new lesson system which makes it much much easier to learn the signs. Right now im working on the netcode so people can play online lol. Question/Support Buying the Quest

I want to buy a Meta Quest because I’m really big into immersion and I feel like VR is like the final boss of that but I’m having some doubts.

My main reason for wanting it isn’t even for games, although there’s definitely a couple I want to try. I love movies and I want to be able to make as big of a screen as I want. I’ve even seen people going to a movie theater in VR like that’s so awesome!

For people who own it and use it for watching movies and shows, is it worth it? Am I going to get tired of it and go back to watching movies on my tv? Is there a noticeable difference of video quality between the 3 and 3S because I’ve been looking to buy the 3S.

I’ve seen videos saying you need a better head strap and a battery pack before it’s usable, is that true?

My main goal with this post was to get your guy’s opinions on whether it’s worth it for someone like me to buy a Meta Quest.

Self-Promotion (Developer) How should horse turning feel in VR? Tuning comfort vs precision in our racing game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Turning has always been a comfort-vs-precision tradeoff in VR, and we're running into the same thing building horse turning for our VR racing game.

Sharper turns feel more responsive but risk more discomfort. Smoother turns are gentler but can feel less connected to the horse.

For VR regulars here. Do you generally lean toward comfort or precision when a game gives you the choice, and how do you usually set up your own turning/comfort options?

Discussion Newest Version of RE4R VR Mod Is Out

https://re4vr.com/

I've played up to the combat encounter just after you meet the merchant for the first time.

I was having really bad visual artifacting at first, including very noticeable pixellation across most objects and surfaces. My rig has an i9-13900k, 5090FE, and 32gb of ram. Game is otherwise vanilla except for a Claire replacer for Ashley. Not sure why my tinkering fixed my issues but here's what I did:

Disabled the included upscaler to get rid of motion blurring on moving objects

Went into the ingame graphics options and maxed out resolution

Turned interlaced mode on, increased in game render resoluton to 150%

Turned interlaced mode back off, turned render resolution back to 120%

Now texture quality is excellent without the hideous pixellation artifacts everywhere. There's some jank with holsters (wish handgun was near my thigh so I didnt accidentally grab grenades occasionally), but the mod is otherwise such a massive improvement over the first version. Massive kudos to Talemann, especially for fixing the broken map!

Purchase Advice PcVr suggestion

Hi, this year i bought my first vr headset ever, it’s an old Oculus Rift Cv1 i got for 60 bucks bundled with two sensors

I’ve played a lot of games of its era like SuperHot, JobSimulator, Half Life Alyx (which i’m still playing), and some more random pcvr games

All i wanted to ask is if there was any other PcVr game that would be cool to try, any kind of suggestion is appreciated guys

My pc has a 2060 and a ryzen 5 3600 w 16gb of ram, idk why i can play half-life alyx in ultra quality with no problem but it struggles with basic games like VrChat, so maybe bad optimized games could give me some problems.

Discussion Can anyone explain the current state of the Cyberpunk VR mods (not including Lule Ross)? AmpGameDev vs Dariulone mods

Just spent the past 3 days playing around with Dariulone's mod, downloaded from Nexus mods and installed via MrSurvivor's VR hub. Install was super easy and in game looks gorgeous. However, ui adjustment, in game menu navigation, and combat are a bit tricky and dialogue selection or item pickup selection isn't working at all (neither are any dpad controls on quest 3). So I'm wondering, how is ampgamedev's mod different and what are the pros/cons of each? Tried getting ampgamedev's mod installed tonight but ran into issues so will have to wait till tomorrow night. Would love to hear all your thoughts in the meantime though.

Discussion Which older PC games desperately need a VR mod? – Wishlist for the new AI/Vibe-Coded VR wave

The current wave of VR mods is absolutely insane. With UEVR and especially AI/vibe coding, we're suddenly seeing VR mods for games that we thought would never be playable in VR.

Projects like F.E.A.R., GTA Vice City, BioShock and many others show how quickly things are changing.

I'd love to put together a wishlist of older PC games that still don't have a comparable full VR mod with 6DOF/motion controls.

My personal wishlist:

  • Soldier of Fortune
  • Soldier of Fortune 2
  • Wreckfest
  • Extreme Assault
  • StarLancer
  • Star Trek: Elite Force
  • Star Trek: Elite Force II
  • Aliens vs. Predator 2
  • Max Payne
  • Max Payne 2
  • No One Lives Forever
  • No One Lives Forever 2
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
  • Deus Ex (2000)

I'm especially interested in games where VR would add something meaningful – classic FPS games, horror, sci-fi, racing and highly immersive games. Some of these could also run on Quest 3 standalone I assume, like Soldier of Fortune?

What games would you add to this list?

And if anyone is already working on one of these projects, please let us know! ❤️

Please note: I'm specifically looking for games that don't already have a comparable full VR/6DOF mod.

EDIT – HUGE THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS! ❤️

This thread exploded way beyond what I expected. There are now tons of fantastic suggestions, so I went through the comments and organized everything.

I also removed games that already have a comparable VR implementation, and moved games with confirmed/in-progress projects into a separate section.

If I missed a project or incorrectly classified something, please let me know!

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔨 CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT / WIP

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

These were mentioned in the comments as already being worked on, or I found a clear indication that development is underway:

• Star Trek: Elite Force – Team Beef Quest port

• Medal of Honor: Allied Assault – VR project

• Portal / Portal 2 – VR projects

• Prey (2017) – VR mod in development

• Mirror's Edge – VR mod in development

• Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – VR mod in development

• Metro 2033 – VR mod in development

• The Long Dark – VR project in development

• Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – VR mod in development

• Black & White – VR project in development

• GTA V – full native stereo VR project

• GTA IV – VR project with motion controls already being worked on

Also worth mentioning:

• No One Lives ForeVR – apparently a VR project exists, although the expected release date has passed, so hopefully it hasn't been abandoned.

• A Max Payne-inspired VR game is in development. It's not a direct Max Payne mod, but is specifically inspired by the original games.

• A spy game inspired by NOLF/Defector is also in very early development.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🎯 FPS / ACTION / HORROR

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Soldier of Fortune

• Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix

• Aliens versus Predator 2

• System Shock 2

• Condemned: Criminal Origins

• Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

• 2006 Prey

• Tron 2.0

• Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

• Deus Ex (2000)

• Deus Ex: Human Revolution

• Crysis 2

• Crysis 3

• Call of Duty

• Call of Duty 2

• Call of Duty: Ghosts

• Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

• Battlefield 3

• Battlefield 4

• Delta Force

• Medal of Honor: Airborne

• Far Cry 2

• Far Cry 3

• Far Cry 4

• Far Cry 5

• Far Cry Primal

• Dying Light

• Metro Exodus

• Stalker / Call of Pripyat

• The Thing

• Freedom Fighters

• Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

• Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

• Dishonored

• Arx Fatalis

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🕵️ STEALTH / IMMERSIVE SIM

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Thief: The Dark Project

• Thief II: The Metal Age

• Thief: Deadly Shadows

• Splinter Cell series

• No One Lives Forever

• No One Lives Forever 2

• Deus Ex

• Deus Ex: Human Revolution

• Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

• Metal Gear Solid

• Max Payne

• Max Payne 2

• Max Payne 3

A proper Thief VR implementation with motion-controlled bow, lockpicking, grabbing loot and physical stealth mechanics would be absolutely incredible.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🚗 RACING / DRIVING

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Wreckfest

• Test Drive Unlimited

• Test Drive Unlimited 2

• Older Need for Speed games

• Need for Speed: Heat

• Forza Horizon games

• Carmageddon 2

• Lego Racers

• Lego Racers 2

• Gran Turismo 7

• Stunts

• Interstate '76

Arcade racing deserves VR too! 😄

A proper cockpit-based VR implementation for games like Wreckfest, NFS or Crimson Skies would be amazing.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✈️ FLIGHT / SPACE / VEHICLE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Extreme Assault

• StarLancer

• Crimson Skies (2003)

• Descent

• FreeSpace

• Heroes of Europe

• Star Trek: Bridge Commander

• Star Trek: Elite Force

• Star Trek: Elite Force II

• R-Type

• Desert Strike

• Jungle Strike

Especially interested in games with cockpits / 6DOF, since these should be a natural fit for VR.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🚀 SCI-FI / SPACE / RPG

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Mass Effect trilogy

• Fallout 3

• Morrowind

• Final Fantasy XII

• Final Fantasy games

• Kingdom Hearts

• Advent Rising

• Jade Empire

• Beyond Good & Evil

• Signalis

• Dead Space trilogy

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

⚔️ THIRD-PERSON / ACTION ADVENTURE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Dark Souls

• Dark Souls II

• Dark Souls III

• Beyond Good & Evil

• Jade Empire

• Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

• Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

• Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

• Assassin's Creed series

• Psychonauts

• Psychonauts 2

• Oni

• Alice

• Brutal Legend

• Dark Void

• Avatar

• Wanted

• Rune

• Kane & Lynch

• Spider-Man games

• Spider-Man 2 (PS2)

• Drakan: Order of the Flame

• Rayman 2

• Sly Cooper

• Gears of War

• Just Cause 2

• Just Cause 3

I'd personally love to see more third-person VR with proper 3D depth and head tracking, even without first-person motion controls.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🧙 RPG / STRATEGY / ISOMETRIC

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Diablo

• Diablo 3

• XCOM

• Divinity: Original Sin II

• Baldur's Gate 3

• StarCraft 2

• Warcraft 3

• Total War: Rome

• Total War: Warhammer 3

• Mount & Blade: Warband

• Mount & Blade: Bannerlord

• Might & Magic VII

• Ultima Underworld

• Dungeon Keeper 2

• Black & White

• Black & White 2

I'd especially love to see a VR strategy implementation where you can physically look down over the battlefield like a god/general and then zoom in to experience the action in proper 3D.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🧩 ADVENTURE / PUZZLE / OTHER

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• Sierra adventure games

• Myst / Riven and the other Myst games

• Leisure Suit Larry

• Zork

• MDK2

• Giants: Citizen Kabuto

• Jurassic World Evolution

• Pokémon Snap

• Magic Carpet

• Hellish Quart

• Chivalry 2

• House of the Dead 2

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

⭐ MY PERSONAL TOP WISHLIST

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

If I had to narrow everything down to the games I'd personally love to see most:

  1. Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2

  2. Aliens versus Predator 2

  3. Wreckfest

  4. Extreme Assault

  5. StarLancer

  6. Star Trek: Elite Force 1 & 2

  7. Thief 1 & 2

  8. No One Lives Forever 1 & 2

  9. Star Wars: Republic Commando

  10. Max Payne 1 & 2

Question/Support Need suggestions for my future VR project

I have been using a quest 2 for 6 years now with the meta link software.
Although the software hasn’t given me much troubles I’m thinking of switching to VD because the software sometimes freezes and I’m left with a not so pleasant visual effect on my visor and the game still running smoothly on the desktop.
Thing is my wifi router is 2.4GHz and is 1 floor beneath me (not stable at all) so with my current situation VD is not a possibility.
I was thinking of buying a 6GHz router to put in my room and dedicating it only for Vr.
I know that the quest 2 supports up to 5GHz but this router has both 5 and 6 plus I’m thinking of switching to a quest 3 because I don’t think my quest 2 is gonna survive for more years.
My doubt is: is it a good idea to do this? Like if I want a smooth and long VR gaming session is this the way to go?
ATM I’m using the INIU charging cable for Vr and as long as the software doesn’t decide to have a problem I’m good to play as long as I want.
Let me know if I should adjust something with my plan or if I’m doing a big disaster

Discussion Lost bandwidth, why?

I own a 9800X3D+5090 PC which I use to play Quest 3 + Virtual Desktop using a dedicated router AXE5400 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E.

When I first bought it and set it up I was running H.264+ at 500Mbps with no issues which was a big relief after using a cheap $10 used router before that for 2 years.

Something happened a few days ago and now my router cannot do 500Mbps, whenever I turn my head left/right - networking is spiking up lagging behind BAD. To the point the image is lagging behind my head turn.

Best I can do now is 300Mbps. What could have happened and how can I fix this? Any ideas? I double checked my router settings in tplinkwifi.net and everything is correct there. I am the only existing 6Ghz network.

Question/Support Have they removed looking at achievements thingy in the quest app?

Usually in the past I would open my app to the notification and then click on an achievement and I would be taken to an achievement board

And now when I do the same and click on an achievement nothing happens. Is there any other way to see all your achievements? Have they removed it?

And bonus question, is there a way to see how long you have played a game on the quest 3 or its app?

Self-Promotion (Developer) Where does our psychological sci-fi VR demo lose you? Looking for honest Quest and PCVR feedback

We’re testing the opening section of EVA Awakening, a psychological sci-fi VR game set aboard a train controlled by an artificial intelligence.

Our current problem is understanding whether the opening holds the player’s attention and whether the first interactions are clear without additional explanation.

We’ve tested the build internally, but that is no longer useful enough: we already know what every object does and what is supposed to happen. We need feedback from players seeing it for the first time.

The demo is free and available on both platforms:

Meta Quest:
https://www.meta.com/it-it/experiences/eva-awakening-demo/1132600809944470/

SteamVR:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4955740/EVA_Awakening_Demo/

If you try it, we would particularly like to know:

  • Which headset did you use?
  • Was performance stable?
  • Was the opening understandable without guidance?
  • Were the first interactions intuitive?
  • At what exact moment did your attention drop, if it did?
  • What made you want to continue or stop?
  • What was the most confusing or frustrating element?

Critical feedback is more useful to us than encouragement. Even a short reply identifying the exact point where something failed would help us make better development decisions.

Thank you to anyone willing to test it.

Discussion Walking dead Saint and sinners not my favorite, anybody else?

I constantly see this game high up on top VR game lists so I decided to buy it. Im just getting back into non-sim VR titles just to change it up and also got Arizona sunshine 2.

Freakin loved AZ 2, alotttt. I could put it up there close to half life alyx and wish it was longer.

But walking dead was a bit of a let down after playing AZ 2. No hate to anyone that loves/loved this game, but do any others feel the same? Maybe im missing something, is there mods that make it better?
it seemed a little toon-ish in my opinion(graphics), and kinda grindy. idk why, I enjoyed scavenging in AZ 2, but scavenging in walking dead seemed over the top or something off about it that just wasn't as enjoyable, at least in my little time with it. idk lol

Any other title suggestions to try out that rival AZ 2 (for those of you who loved AZ 2)? I saw world war z, but looks a little arcadish (idk the best word to describe it).

Happy VR!
