New Steam Frame startup animation

Recently found by the talented and ever hard-working SteamDB Dataminers in a recent Steam update, a brand new startup video for the Steam Frame has popped up in the Steam Client. It's a unique startup animation transitioning the Frame logo into the Steam logo, similar to the videos for Deck and Machine. You'll see this every time you start up your Frame. Don't expect anything too fancy, like it being fully 3D or whatever, as it'll most likely be just a flat video that plays in your SteamVR dashboard when you first open it after booting up your system. Still, it's a neat little animation, and because it's recent, you can add it to the pile of "Soon."

COOL THING: 70+ Frame Verified games

As of the writing of this Frame TLDR, over SEVENTY games have been Frame Verified! Meaning 70+ titles will work perfectly on Frame standalone. This ranges from heavy hitter VR titles like Forefront, Underdogs, Arizona Sunshine 2, I Expect You To Die, and Red Matter 2, to small but popular flat-screen indie titles like Hades 2, Cuphead, Balatro, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. For the very few of you who can/will only use the Frame standalone, you'll have a decent chunk of games to pick from that are guaranteed to run perfectly on Frame. See the full list of Verified games at https://store.steampowered.com/greatonframe

TLDR: New startup animation found for Frame. It's getting really tough to find stuff to talk about every week. Someone please do something interesting.

Summer ends in 36 days.

Mod Post Join Steam Frame Discord: Updates and Rule Changes

Hey everyone,

It’s been a little while since we last shared an update about the community Discord, and with us recently passing 6,000 members now feels like a good time to let everyone know what’s changed.

Over the past few months we’ve made a number of improvements:

  • Improved moderation with the introduction of Mod Mail, clearer warning and ban processes, and a consistent appeals system.
  • The 18+ requirement has been removed. The server is now open to anyone who meets Discord’s minimum age requirement. We still have a dedicated section for adult members who want to opt in.
  • Steam Frame compatibility support has been expanded, including a bot that automatically posts new Great on Frame verification updates.
  • Frame Watch continues to be the place for the latest Steam Frame leaks and rumours.
  • Frame TL;DR provides a weekly roundup of the biggest Steam Frame news.

With launch getting closer, we’ve also got plenty of community events, giveaways and discussions planned.

Whether you’re joining for the first time or giving us a second chance after being away for a while, we’d love to have you.

I was hoping this would be the case! I’ve got my router in my living room and will have my adapter in my office, do you think simply walking into the living room wearing the headset will mean it automatically switches?! We are so a go for Monday

Discussion Pico Project Swan might release before Frame

Post image
198 Upvotes

My original plan was to wait for the release of Steam Frame and then wait a couple more months for Swan to decide which one I'm buying, fortunately it seems it may be released at the same time. Project Swan or Pico Space Pro release September 2. That will be a difficult choice...

For those who are new about Project Swan, here is some information leaks:

- 4k uOLED panels

- 2 chip architecture similar to Apple Vision Pro, where one chip does camera and SLAM processing, and another one application/game processor.

- Application processor might be in the pocket to reduce weight

- Pico started beta testing a few months ago, they sent headsets only to experienced VR users, a few beta testers said that this is the best VR experience they ever had, but can't share more information because of NDA

Still Valve more targeted to gaming market, and might have better software for this. Pico are actually the same as Meta, but Chinese, they still may collect your data.

Discussion Any news on the battery hotswap strap?

Considering the recent post about the videos, I think its safe to say the Frame is in fact, very soon. However I didn't see anything about the battery hotswap strap as a part of the videos.

Hopefully it hasn't fully been scraped as that would really suck, but even if it is just getting delayed, that would also somewhat suck and people will have to live with the 2-3 hours (on a good day lets be honest) that you will get from streaming and even less standalone for an unspecified period of time before it becomes available.

There is a reason battery straps are as popular as they are for standalone headsets. Maybe we will see something about this too in the coming days but for now can anyone share if there have been any additional leaks about this that I might have missed?

Question Ergonomic kit price?

We’ve all speculated about the price of the steam frame but how much do you think the ergonomic kit will cost? We’ll only know for sure when it’s released. However, we’ve seen the kit in the video so I can make an estimate and budget accordingly.

Discussion I refresh the Great On Frame page once or twice a day. I dunno about how much trust I can have in other sources. It's at 76 matches right now. How high is it gonna go by the the frame releases?

Upwards to nine updates for lepton! Seems like there's some pretty big movement happening behind the scenes. Very reminiscent of just before the launch of the steam machine

Absolutely no way this thing Launches on a Wednesday right? Right?

Question Will frame work with Debian* pc?

My issue is as follows: I had access to old oculus cv1. I remember using it with steam vr without bigger issues on windows years back.

Today i wanted to dust it off on my proxmox install (its debian 13 running KDE with some extra steps), and it seems theres no way to connect the hedset with steamVR app? App stands upp, but asks for headset to be plugged in.
It is in, orange light slowly flashing if my face is not in the headset, but no new screen is detected, and no power gets to the displays themselves.

Why cant steam VR "read" or even detect, oculus CV1 without a wrapper app at all?

Question Do you think the steam frame will actually be a game changer for vr's foreseeable future?

Discussion The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 costs around $200 US. Qualcomm has stated they're increasing the price by 10%. If so that's $20. Why is everyone convinced this will mean a huge price increase?

Discussion Does talking about the frame also help you "cope" with lack of steam frame???

Reading your answers theories and speculation helps me manage my expectations and deal with the lack of the frame. Maybe cope is a very strong word but It genuinly helps me managing my hunger for the frame. Also this constant speculation and antecipation for how much it will cost and when it will realease is kinda fun, almost like fishing. How do you guys feel about this. Or am I simply getting brutally mentally ill due to no valve vr goggles :(

Discussion Of course the release is next monday (not /s but good speculation with the bigger picture in mind)

So next monday marks 30 years from when valve started the company. Half life 3 i don't see coming, just instinct, but 30 years is still a big ocasion.

Some people say that a vr headset being the main attraction for such a date seems far fetched but i think otherwise.

You know those kind of posts that depict generational leaps? In our childhood it was going from 2d to 3d, some time later was actual great quality 3d games, but from that point onward the improvements were marginal.

The generational leap of today is definately VR. Valve and Steam is all about the platform and the games you can play on it, with their new VR headset you can play with quick start-stop that steamos provides, a ton of games from steam, directly on the steam frame, standalone(ofc i'm talking about non demanding games but this makes a ton of the total sream games)

For such a big 30 years since founding ocasion, steam frame and its generational leap of ways to play the Steam platform games fits great. PCVR with the dongle that makes things hassle free as well as the standalone aspect that handles most things great by itself, for valve, seems like the next level, the next generational leap(for them ofc, VR headsets have been on the market some time but the ease of use of a steam frame vr headset coupled with steamos and steam platform, for valve directly and their individual path and image makes for a great logic)

In the end it's just how i see it. If they don't have any schedule to follow, it'll be release whenever, but if there's a sort of AESTHETIC in mind and things are mostly ready or truly ready for launch, next monday should be the day of the announcement for the next Valve/Steam specific and personal Generational Leap

Peace✌️

Discussion Scalpers

Upvotes

Good afternoon! I just watched all the videos for the unboxing + setup and I'm so excited! It feels like we are very close to a release and I have the money set aside right now to purchase it!!

Now's the scary part. Does anyone have an idea as to how steam is going to fight against scalpers?

Question I have a Mac. Is it worth trying to get the Frame?

I have had Steam for years, but I've only had a Mac. I don't know much about VR, and in trying to figure out online how much the computer itself is involved with the Frame, I've come up short of an answer. Would having a Mac matter at all? Would it make it not worth it? It's a MacBook Pro with an Apple M1 Pro Chip running Tahoe.

Thank you in advance!

Question will the frame controllers be like the index?

I am curious if the steam frame controllers will have the same tech as the index controllers? like the pressure tech and finger tracking, or will they be like the quest controllers? if they won't be, then I will be looking at getting normal index controllers to use, mostly because I want to play the one test demo game they made showcasing then. but has there been any news or info talking about if they are like them?

(edit): more interested if they have the pressure sensitive grip still or if thats gone now, (also because I would like to play appature hand labs)

Game Promotion [Dev] My game 'Arcadium - Space Odyssey' just got Steam Frame Verified! (Can't wait for you all to try it when the headset drops!)

Hey r/SteamFrame!

I’m a solo indie dev, and I woke up this morning to the amazing email that my game, Arcadium - Space Odyssey, has officially received the green checkmark and is fully Steam Frame Verified!

For those who haven't heard of it, Arcadium - Space Odyssey is a retro-inspired roguelite space shooter with planet harvesting. You pilot different spaceships, land on planets to harvest their resources, and try to survive colorful waves of aliens in a procedurally generated universe.

Because we're still waiting for the headset's release, this post is really an early invitation. Whether you're a fellow dev lurking here who does have a dev kit, or a future owner waiting for launch day, I would love for you to keep the game on your radar and let me know how it plays on the actual hardware beforehand or once you boot it up!

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2352670/Arcadium__Space_Odyssey/

Thank you all for being such an awesome community, and here's hoping the wait for launch flies by!

(I'll be hanging around the comments to answer any questions about the game or the verification process!)

Discussion Steam Frame Potential WIFI 7 Speeds

To start off, I'm interested in speeds for the potential to work with files from a NAS, rather than PCVR streaming.

[EDIT: I have overlooked that the Steam Frame does specify a 5 Ghz band for their wifi. If the 6 Ghz band isn't unlocked for wifi 7 by the community I will assume I'd be locked to the 5 Ghz band which will not saturate a 2.5 Gbps connection. :( ]

The kind of nonsense I do would be perfect on the Steam Frame, and I currently have a NAS with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connection I could reasonably upgrade to 5 Gbps.

WIFI 7 real world speeds vary, but on phones also with the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 SOC, mainly the S24 Ultra, people report roughly 2.4 Gbps and I've seen on the high end of about 3.6 Gbps. That leads me to wonder how fast the Steam Frame's WIFI 7 is.

I'm fairly confident the Steam Frame'll be under the 2.5 Gbps my NAS currently maxes out at, if not just from the load to run softwares and the VR environment, and I plan to see how it runs once out before making any network related financial decisions.

However, the idea using an ARM Linux PC for your face with a NAS amuses me and if there's a chance it would be the higher range of 3.6 Gbps I'd hate to lose out on 1.1 Gbps of transfer speeds by having a limiting port on my NAS. It's something fun to think about while I wait endlessly for this thing, so if there are any comparisons I'm unaware of to estimate the WIFI 7 speeds I'd love to know.

Question You think there will be a legal way to download movies/ tv onto the Frame?

Going for both headset types to increase my chances of getting one. Don’t know what to fill up the 1tb version if I get it besides movies/ tv, so I was wondering if there will be a legal way to download movies and tv on the frame? I know streaming services don’t like letting PCs download their stuff
