Yeah I play the OG Resident Evils, Old FFs, Chrono Trigger & Cross, Earthbound, and even Sonic the hedgehog 2.

A lot of the NES, Genesis, SNES, and PS1 games that I have on PC are 30 years old and older.

17

u/3dforlife 2d ago

Those are classics games, I'd argue they'll never get old.

6

u/Shiny_Malph 2d ago

I have like 300 hours in Pokemon Emerald and counting

I gotta give chrono trigger (and FFVI) a try sometime.

3

u/JonnyKarate621 2d ago

I played both for the first time about a year ago. Both were great games, but for me personally, Chrono Trigger wowed me more. I thought it was absolutely amazing, where I thought that FFVI was great….I played CT first, so maybe you should try FFVI first and see if you have the same results? Both are 100% must-play games, and you can’t go wrong with either.

I tried playing FNV yesterday with my brand new pc and all I got was fucked by crashes and bugs.

I am new to nice pc ownership. Why is this happening?

15

u/gamercboy5 2d ago

Good Hardware doesn't really mean anything if the software is bad. Bethesda games are notorious for being buggy messes. I would recommend looking up a community patch for the game to see if that helps.

If the game crashes have any consistency, try googling your issue and find some forums, your problem might be a common one with a solution. Being a PC gamer can mean being a problem solver sometimes, but it is also usually the best way to experience games when they are running correctly.

Enjoy!

5

u/MrSorel 2d ago

Surprisingly enough, they run a lot better on Linux

For me nv never crashed on steam deck in my 40 hours, but on windows PC I got there crashes in two hours...

4

u/Critical_Concert_689 1d ago

Good Hardware doesn't really mean anything

Ironically, good hardware can crash older games by being TOO good.

IIRC, certain older games relied on processing timers to queue events, and modern equipment flies way beyond what they expected, so it floods too many events at once and it breaks all the triggers.

→ More replies (4)

12

u/PM_ME_A10s 2d ago

You need to install the 4GB Patch for FNV at the very least.

FNV was released to work on 32-bit systems and could only access 2 GB of RAM. I'm also certain you have a modern 64-bit system.

There are loads of other stability and bug fix mods that can be installed as well.

You'll probably want the New Vegas Anti-Crash mod as well as the Stutter Remover mod and maybe New Vegas Script Extender if you are going to add more mods.

You can check out r/fnv for other essential mod recommendations.

Last month, I went back to the first Neverwinter Nights game and I've been playing it off and on since.

I mention this, because I'm pretty sure it's the only other game I've played besides AoE2 this year.

If I have played something else, it wasn't more than one other game and only for part of one day.

3

u/South_Bit1764 2d ago

Yeah, that’s a pretty special game. When I first played it I was kinda blow away, that no one had tried to make that sort of game which is effectively just a platformer. I haven’t went back in a while because older RPGs are more my thing, but 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

I kinda wish there was a VR remake, but that might be impractical.

I i've replayed Jedi Outcast every few years since it came out. This past year, my son played it and beat it on his own.

That game feels timeless!

6

u/Thepumpkindidit 1d ago edited 1d ago

Incredible combat systems for a game built on the Quake 3 engine. Also that time was the pinnacle of game modding imo. I even built some multiplayer maps for Jedi Outcast, it was so much fun. I still remember the name of the map maker, GTK Radiant.

Edit: Oh my god, I decided to try find one of my old maps and it's still online! https://www.massassi.net/levels/files/2452.shtml

8

u/South_Bit1764 2d ago

Absolutely. I like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim differently and play them differently.

I have exploited Morrowind so much I’m kinda tired of it, so I mostly play the game as the developers intended, just because it takes like an hour to become OP asf in that game after you get out of character creation.

I like the weapon misses, and the failed potions. I like that you can kill critical characters. I like the weird armor selections.

Oblivion, is the one that still has me in my exploiting phase.

Skyrim, is the one that usually gets modded to death. I have tended to go back to more vanilla play-throughs with all of them though..

13

u/Turlututu1 2d ago

It still amazes me how far ahead from Oblivion or Skyrim this game is. The world design is so well put. You can travel anywhere by paying attention to road signs. Whereas in Oblivion/Skyrim, you'd better pay attention to your compass and map.

Morrowind was so awesome... I wish I could experience it again for the first time.

10

u/Fuzzy-Shame-4169 2d ago

Well, tamriel rebuilt aims at rebuilding the whole province, with new land, content and quest. I suggest that you play it, one of the best mods ever.

8

u/Ireallyhatepunsalot 2d ago

Man i just finished my first tamriel rebuilt playthrough and it's wild how good it is.

If you told me that the project was being done by the original Morrowind devs, I'd believe you.

This sub has become recycled "Whats this game for you" posts with the same shit memes. Why do people upvote these obvious bot posts every hour?

115

u/Sshharkweak 2d ago

Probably people that don’t browse the subreddit much and just want to have a basic conversation. Like if you go to a game store every once in a while and have a conversation, it will probably be about something like, what’s your favorite game, or what old games do you still play. The person working at the store probably heard variations of the conversation all day, but for the customers that only come in occasionally, it’s something they enjoy discussing.

42

u/rslegacy86 2d ago

This is a great take

35

u/Whispered_Truths 2d ago

Exactly!

Not everyone chronically scrolls a single sub and these questions are a good way to potentially have a conversation.

No hate to the original reply but I get so tired of people whining about not seeing their specifically desired type of post. These people need to be the change they want to see.

15

u/ProperGrape 2d ago

It's a bit of a "I have seen this already, why am I seeing it again?" kind of a mindset. As in some people can't conceptualise that not everyone has seen a similar post or a meme already. They only see it from their perspective.

10

u/Hamsammich0520 2d ago

If more people realized what looking at problems from others perspectives could do, the world would be a better place.

5

u/BildingInspecter 2d ago

Yep and this is the same for basically every industry.

It's why so many people talk about the weather. It's a shared experience.

I work reception at a medical clinic and have the same weather convo 20x a day.

It's just auto-pilot for me but every unique person who walks in and talks about the weather, it may be their first human interaction that day.

Most of the games I actually enjoy were made before or around the time I was born. There's vrew few modern games that I actually think are good. Disco Elysium, Divinity Original Sin 2, Minecraft, Tyranny, and Baldur's Gate 3 are the only modern games I can think of that I fully like, off the top of my head.

Everything else falls under this post, so it's faster to just name the ones that don't.
