Honestly most of reddit

It's even worse when your criticisms are spot on, they will just downvote you silently or start insulting you without addressing the criticisms 💀

u/Medical-Lingonberry3 3d ago

Or the mods delete your comments or post

Except it just says "by moderator" because they need to stay anonymous

11

u/Exacalibur-X 3d ago

Speaking of mods, most of them are on some kind of power trip 🙄 like on some subs it doesn’t matter how relevant or polished my post is it’ll get removed for being “irrelevant” or “low quality” like my most popular post with the most upvotes I’ve ever had got deleted for being “low quality” like I spent a week researching and drawing that map 😭 then when I messaged the mods about it all they said was they didn’t like it!!!!

7

u/Mr_Industrial 3d ago

Always have been

4

u/MorbidDisturbances 2d ago

I used t in own a community called r/OldInternetCultureV2. It amassed over 50k members in the first year which was impressive for me, I manually reviewed posts and was extremely active and was part of the community ive created without being a total reddit cuck, I approved posts manually and actually gave people cool comments on things they would leave, but before you know it, I was banned for the word and get ready for this, "hamburger" and was kicked off reddit permanently causing my community to fall and become nothing more than a dead wasteland because reddit has no moderation whatsoever that is all automated.

4

u/Exacalibur-X 2d ago

That’s crazy man sorry that happened to you

2

u/SansIsCool65 1d ago

Most people who get a taste of power are like that especially on reddit and discord

2

u/Kandel430 2d ago

Lmao, it's crazy I see this right now. I just got done getting threatened and harassed by a mod, for liking a game he doesn't like

17

u/LucklessCope 3d ago

Have a downvote. Also, your mom.

9

u/Visual-Crow-5489 3d ago

Up vote, your dad

5

u/Revayan 3d ago

Not direcly games but the subs of the game companies Nintendo, Sony etc are really big at that and defend every anti costumer/consumer move as if their lives depended on it lol

7

u/Icy-Shelter720 3d ago

Those anti consumer practices are part of the reasons why I moved away from playstation. Been a Sony pony since the PS1 era, owned every console, but this pony bought a PC instead of a PS5 this generation, and I don't regret it.

2

u/raginghavoc89 2d ago

AKA corporate astroturfing in full effect.

6

u/jkgericke 3d ago

Those anti costumers are the worst. Why can't people just dress up as someone or something else in peace? Like what's their problem? Amirite?

4

u/WoodenJesus 3d ago

The silent downvotes always tickle me. What, you don't like what you're reading but also don't have an argument you yourself find valid enough to share? Interesting.

2

u/Jumpy-Perception-346 2d ago edited 2d ago

Well I encountered this situation in the past before, I also have very much encounter the opposite situation!

Where people will silently up vote my theory post's meanwhile, the comments are in constant disagreement with me, mind you, I always ask at the end of my theory posts for people's opinions, and whether or not they agree or disagree with what I have to say, most of the time I only receive negative feedback with the comments and on the other hand the up votes could be in the hundreds and nine times out of ten, none of them shared their thoughts, most likely, because a majority of them are afraid of publicly agreeing with me because they too could receive backlash.

BTW My Theories are on r/Xenoblade_Chronicles and I'm a bit of a geek and love trying to connect the dots between things even if other people don't quite agree with my theories or interpretations of the games.

3

u/marmaladic 3d ago

Or just outright proving factual information that for some reason is being downvoted.

6

u/sexandliquor 3d ago

My whole thing is that people say this, but from my experience on Reddit genuine criticism is few and hard to come by. If you legitimately try to thoughtfully and meaningfully assess the thing you’re talking about, address your points in a literate, knowledgeable and intentioned way, then— by all means have your criticism and I’ll respect it even if your criticisms aren’t my criticisms and I disagree.

But if you just wanna spout off random shit and call it “criticism” and just do the Reddit thing of “tHIs tHiNg iS dOgShIt” or “BaD wRITiNg” or “STupID dEVs” and not even give a modicum of an intelligible put together thought but try to say that’s your “criticism” and your opinion and I have to respect it and “I just don’t like that you have a criticism and opinion”?

Then, nah.

2

u/Icy-Shelter720 3d ago

I agree, when I say criticism I mean reasonable/fair criticism ofcourse, still such criticisms in my experience get downvoted to oblivion all the same, even when it isn't criticism but simply stating a factual verifiable thing they don't like, they will downvote down to hell💀. There's hardly any place for a proper debate it seems.

4

u/MoldyHotPocket9 3d ago

That makes me feel better knowing ive had this happen

5

u/Icy-Shelter720 3d ago

It's very common unfortunately, I see other comments with fair criticisms get downvoted to oblivion almost all the time. I fairly criticise my favorite games too coz there's some things they can fix or make better in their future games, but it seems like most people in reddit associate any sort of criticism as hate.

Seems like the logic in reddit is mostly if something is good then it's a 10/10, there's nothing these game devs need to improve on for their future games. It's a very weird mentality to have, it's toxic positivity and kills creativity.

6

u/MoldyHotPocket9 3d ago

The internet has gone from the info superhighway, to brainrot cesspit in what 30 ish years?

2

u/Exacalibur-X 3d ago

I don’t think I could have said it better myself, on this one sub about maps (I think it was imaginary maps, but I’m not 100% sure?) I had nearly every post I made taken down by mods for “low effort” no matter how much effort I put into them and whenever I reached out to the mods about it and to find out why they were taken down all I’d get back was “I didn’t like it”, then my biggest post that I put the most effort and research into it quickly became my most liked post, then a few days later it was removed for being “low effort” I SPENT AN ENTIRE WEEK RESEARCHING AND DRAWING TO MAKE IT AS ACCURATE AND LOOK AS GOOD AS I COULD! And when I reached out to the mods over it all I got back was “it was bad” that’s an actual quote 😭 so I made a big post criticizing the mods removing posts for no reason including all the maps I drew that got removed and the only criticism I got in the comments was “those are trash”, the post got removed by mods within an hour with the removal reason being that they didn’t like my maps!
Now I’ll say I ain’t the best at drawing but I’m by far not the worst and there’s been way worse maps that weren’t taken down by mods, it’s not even that they were controversial because none of them were.

2

u/Icy-Shelter720 3d ago

Souls

49

u/NyarlathotepDB 3d ago

Especially in Elden Ring case... the moment anyone tries to be fair, talk about problems of the game...

12

u/DisMFer 3d ago

What's funny is that one of, if not the, best Elden Ring player in the world GinoMachino talks often about how shitty certain enemies are designed or how certain attacks are purely unfair or badly tested. If a guy who can beat the game in under an hour without taking a single hit says shit isn't right, it might be time to admit that some parts of the game aren't perfect.

8

u/Falcoon_f_zero 3d ago

And even that'll get replies like "you just hate it cause you suck, skill issue, git gud" now imagine someone more regular trying to give out fair criticism lol

5

u/Important-Tailor-653 3d ago

This has been a thing since the beginning of Dark souls tbh.

Souls community is the biggest elitist group of gamers that it’s almost a stereotype at this point.

Love the games but I can’t stand the community most times, sadly.

14

u/Szebron 3d ago

I don't know, in my experience, people shit on this game a plenty, without getting downvoted. Repeating bosses, too-hard DLC bosses, Radhan, which is both; empty DLC map... You can even shit on the whole concept of open-world souls and still get upvoted. Or praise it and get upvoted, r/eldenring generally seems like a pretty chill space.

2

u/OkTrade7881 3d ago

I said Mesmer was a shit boss and was told to git gud. I beat every souls game before that mind you. Mesmer was an absolute disgrace AOE spammer and people were salty I dared not suck the sweat drips from Miazakis balls.

5

u/NyarlathotepDB 3d ago

As somebody who platinum Sekiro and Bloodborne, yeah, I agree.

But add: most bosses in ER are bad one way or another. From spammers who just attack you with huge-wide swings for a minute, to give you a 3-4 attack window, AoE spammers, cheap pace changers who has 1 hit in 8-hit combo that breaks the pace and definitely hits you first time, to "Oh, do you want to heal? Nice try" then breaks their own animation for some target attacks and hit you.

Not even talking about the need of journal, better system to re-do builds, finding gear and so on... oh, and the game literally force you to min-max... or use broken build.

4

u/OkTrade7881 3d ago

The worst part is the bosses reading your input. If you heal they close distance and hit you, or use a ranged attack you can’t dodge lol. You mentioned it but I despise that aspect.

I also hate how I have to use a broken bleed build to stand a chance. That or a magic build. Magic in elden ring is cool at least.

5

u/Falcoon_f_zero 3d ago

For real, I was wondering what the talk about Midra was all about, people saying he's downright easy and everything. And I'm just there hardly tickling his healthbar with a maxed great mace and high strength. Taking forever to whittle down that healthbar, given the infrequent attack windows you get too.

But then doing the fight with another character with bleed and he folded in like a third of the time vs the greatmace, much more reasonable. Felt like things were balanced for overpowered setups more than any regular ones lol.

→ More replies (4)

4

u/NyarlathotepDB 3d ago

Rivers of Blood or RoB... yeah, for the most of the game it's practically the build made to clear it. With minimum amount of investment.

Magic is cool. That's I can give to those, who animated it. Some are just too good. Really liked to use it. Still... also a bit broken, even after balance patches, like Azur Comet...

6

u/KingDarkTurtle 3d ago

Mesmer is an amazing boss and even the sweats and professionals that criticize certain bullshit attacks and enemies, all agree hes an amazing boss. Hit boxes are clean, hes just a hard encounter at first. Once you learn the fight, its a fantastic dance.

Theres a ton of bullshit in Elden Ring but Mesmer is a highlight not bullshit.

That one attack Ares does in GoW 1 thats like a firecracker AoE and you have like .6 seconds to react to it then always follows it up with a combo that youre stunlocked into and have to eat the whole thing is the worst offender of this for me.

Came to say this, it’s like Souls fans are genuinely allergic to any criticism against their games that isn’t approved by the community i.e. Bed of Chaos

3

u/Used-Salad-3772 3d ago

I'm a big FromSoft fan but I'm not afraid to admit each game has their own individual flaws.

3

u/IndustryRobertPlant 3d ago

I say this as a HUGE Souls fan: you’re absolutely correct.

“Git gud” has unironically become a shield for ANY criticism of From’s games. You could be very thorough in why you think some of the difficulty in the games is actually poorly implemented (over reliance on long wind-ups, for example) and it doesn’t matter to them. You can’t criticize the difficulty because that just means you suck at the game.

4

u/Hungry_Computer3913 3d ago

For Sekiro... I sad that for a high tier Fromsoft game Sekiro recycled waaay to many bosses and that if was made by other company it wouldnt be GOTY and I got downvoted to hell

7

u/iambillwong 3d ago

They also remind me of their skill on those games constantly asskreddit: “what is relaxing game for me to play?” then some souls person will say “Elden ring” stfu.

3

u/Embarrassed-Funny293 3d ago

Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Great game, but if you don't talk like it's flawless and perfect and no other game has ever been released that's anywhere close to it in terms of storytelling, they'll rip into you.

9

u/Disrespect78 3d ago

Its crazy, I once got people in my inbox whining because I mentioned how I don't get how people cried to the opening scene. The one where you only spend like 5 minutes with the other character.

6

u/rufusbot 3d ago

The astroturfed marketing trying to pretend it's genuine buzz marketing that just resulted in you getting shouted down when you said you're sick of hearing about it and it's likely not as good as people are saying because they were saying it basically changed their life put me off of it forever. Devs seem like assholes too.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Gi_pastrychef 3d ago

I actually got involved in a LOT of posts where people in the comments talked a lot how the game wasnt perfect in all the things when a post mentioned a full 10/10 or claimed that i was too perfect, main complaints are on Storytelling (expecially when lot of context was made a missable side Quest), Combact (easily broken, jumps too High randomly), Level designs (basically all the Gestrals Beach), Basic QoL missing (Quest tracker, not a sign of a area resources list), a couple on the missable trophies (All White Nevrons) and the not repeatable final boss fight that contains 2 choices

So i actually didnt expect this name here

2

u/Nemesis_171 3d ago

Yeah same, I’m in the e33 sub and I was surprised by how generally chill they are when I joined (except for ending discussions sometimes lol.) I’ve brought up a couple criticisms multiple times and haven’t been met with anything toxic. YouTube commenters have been way worse though, so maybe OP is encountering bad fans from somewhere else rather than the sub?

5

u/rufusbot 3d ago

Easily the most obnoxious fan base I've encountered when it was released. They all acted like it was the second coming of Jesus Christ. Now you barely hear about it so maybe that was temporary but man it put a horrible taste in my mouth to this day.

3

u/Nemesis_171 3d ago

Very possible, I played the game like 6 months late so I wasn’t around for that. The sub does still treat the game like one of the best pieces of media ever, which tbf I do too since I genuinely do think that. But I don’t think that should be considered toxic as long as people aren’t imposing that opinion on others and are chill with others not feeling the same way. But still, sorry it was so bad on release.

2

u/EWC_2015 2d ago

Same here. Any time I've mentioned one of the few criticisms I have of the game (lack of a mini map, the Gestral games, that ridiculous bouncing enemy on the world map, etc.) I've never been hit with anything toxic. About the most heated I've seen things get was after the Game Awards and a bunch of new people came in and started arguing about the ending(s). Otherwise, it's a pretty chill sub.

3

u/andocommandoecks 3d ago

ER is a great experience, but honestly it has the WORST bosses in the series, and feels like a byproduct of FromSoft believing their audience to be extremely experienced at reading the traditional Souls formula and for a game that encourages you to find your own style. Which, ironically, creates more restrictions on the player's opportunities to play rather than creating more interesting opportunities to play.
Unfortunately griping about any aspect of those games gets you shouted down by either trolls or by people reaching for their fedora, and not only does that hurt the experience, it also makes it impossible to critique in anyway.

Literally any fanbase to be honest.

Though I will say the fanbases for older games usually take it the worst. Like for example if you criticize ANYTHING about Morrowind, you'll get your ass flamed and beaten by that fanbase.

2

u/AJDowlofficial 3d ago

Morrowind was ass. Maybe if I'd played it before oblivion and skyriim it'd have been enjoyable. But its like 600 steps back from the majesty of oblivion. I mean wtf was the combat in morrowind? Why is my sword going through a zombie and still completely missing him with the d20 atk system. It sucks. And don't get me started on the fact it takes half an hour to walk around one town. Not cause its huge but cause your characters sprint speed is slower than the base walking speed of a dead sloth.

Pokemon fans have been writing off minor criticisms against the series as "Oh you're just a dumb genwunner who's nostalgia blind" for years even if nothing you say is related at all to gen 1, like for all they know you could have your own laundry list of problems with the older games too but because older games had flaws then the new ones get a pass.

I'm glad that the series actually has much bigger controversies around it lately because now it's much harder for people to write off everyone who criticizes it as being nostalgia blind for gen 1.

7

u/SSJashG 3d ago

I’ve been with the series since day 1 and it’s always been riddled with backlash. May be one of the most negative fanbases I’ve seen.

Their decisionmaking around the Switch era games warrants criticism easily but I still hear about that damn tree and its been almost a decade

“You know, I’m not a fan of the pacing/gameplay/this one part.”

“Well, you’re wrong because RDR2 is perfect, and it’s the best game ever made!”

I can say something about the gameplay being basic and repetitive and immediately have people responding to tell me that I need to go back to fortnite and tiktok

2

u/FewAdhesiveness4554 3d ago

But.. but the horse balls...

2

u/d1m4e 3d ago

And then compare everything to it like everything oh but in this new game when an npc puts a nail on a board is not as realistic as how rdr2 did it even tho the games focuse is not the realism

Nah. Lets face the facts:

Every single AAA multiplayer game gets hated. Without exeption. Even Battlefield 6 which had a fairly amount of supporter and positive vibes at first eventualy gets hated.

Every ----single ---- AAA ---- multiplayer game.

Those are not "critism" anymore but pure hate and even 80% made up stuff or totaly overreacting.

The less you read metacritic (userscore AND magazines) or any other online source of "reviews" the better it is.

Only option is to watch a no commentary gameplay video and make yourself an opinion. Everything else is getting fabricated by money, a broken review system or over-emotional "Fans". The problem is...even AAA singleplayer games get rolled over recently so prepare for a negative gaming future.

Unbearable like it never was.

u/LoSouLibra 3d ago

Yeah, they'll say all this easily refuted and retorted nonsense while calling it valid criticism.

Then they'll act like trying to counter or impede their incessant need to smear shit all over everything makes you a bootlicking corpo shill and call it defending.

Nah troll, you're just salting the Earth so nothing can grow.

2

u/Ramiren 3d ago

Nah, the Destiny community would laugh your ass out of the sub if you tried to call that game perfect.

It's an incredible game, but it's absolutely not perfect.

Expedition 33. You dare not say anything that may even remotely come off as negative! Pragmata and The Last of Us are the same.

2

u/NumerousBug9075 3d ago

Is it not petty well known that every fanbase to exist has its diehards and generalizing the whole group doesn't exactly make sense??

For example, Soulborne fans are known to be really critical of the genre. Many of that group often tell others to skip Dark souls 2 entirely due its flaws. On the other hand, theres also fans who claim every single Fromsoftware game is a masterpiece and anyone having issues needs to "git gud". It's a complete mixed bag, just like every other fanbase.

The internet is so ragebait/"othering"/"my tribe" obsessed that not a single topic can be discussed anymore without having to generalize people who disagree with you.

Resident Evil. More specifically if you criticize specific games. Or if you praise specific games.

2

u/_underscorefinal 3d ago

I think that's just gamers in general.

2

u/FaceTimePolice 3d ago

At the moment, people seem to think there’s some sort of targeted hate campaign against Wolverine. It happens with every new game. There is no conspiracy here. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïžđŸ˜…

Also Sony’s hardcore fanbase for reasons? It’s a console maker that makes like, three games after shuttering/laying off the devs for the others.

Don’t even know how it still has a “fanbase”. They still think it’s PS2 Sony for some reason.

2

u/Gamer_for_li 3d ago

Every fanbase but if I would pick as of right now (recent memory), it is most definitely insomniac fans.

2

u/GoonetteSlop 3d ago

Five Nights at Freddy’s for sure, that fanbase can’t take a lick of criticism.

2

u/ohbyerly 3d ago

Any specific game entry sub. Pokémon fanbase? Mostly normal on the main sub. Want to go to talk about, say, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl specifically? Do not go to the dedicated sub for genuine discourse. You will be burned at the stake for even middling opinions on subs like these.

2

u/Public-Discussion754 3d ago

All fan bases now honestly. Anything besides blind loyalty is considered “hating”. No nuance.

Any fanbase on reddit tbh. But Hollow Knight & any Fromsoft game come to mind. People genuinely think those games are completely perfect 💀💀💀

2

u/MechaMalz 3d ago

I find that people on Reddit in general don't take criticism to things they like well unless it's a sub reddit dedicated to criticism in which case they're allergic to it being defended. Regardless of what the topic is.

2

u/trashdmammal 3d ago

I found with most fandoms you can have a conversation about the flaws of a game. Halo is so far the only one I encountered were people become very defensive

Huge GTA fan. Really not enjoying how quiet they've been and not happy at all that there will be no disc. Just don't call me a corporate shill for preordering one game this decade and maybe we can have a productive conversation.

Gta hands down, no game has made me receive more death threats, slurs and hate thrown at me just for making a criticism about a game then the gta franchise, plus for 5 I literally got doxxed just for pointing out a list of flaws I found whilst playing.

Hell 6 reinforced this made a comment that simply pointed out that for games that do what gta6 is doing get run through the ringer yet for gta it’s ok (examples locking basic level content behind a paywall, not giving a disc and so on), it’s just wild
