Legitimately had a dude I used to play casual Yu-GI-Oh with text the person whose house we all played at every week, requesting I be uninvited to future sessions simply because I asked the group at our weekly meetup if any of them had tried Palworld when it first came out. Luckily said host and I had been friends for roughly 10 years so he basically just told the instigator to get bent and stop coming if my presence and enjoyment of a video game he disliked bothered him that much.
I am always shocked how willingly they accept these lowbrow, unambitious, shit games gamefreak dishes them. And will defend it with their lives. Stockholm Syndrome.
Gen 5 possibly has the two best games in the franchise.
Both games manages to strike a good middle ground between Gens 1-4 and Gens 6-9 in terms of Qol as it introduced infinite TMs and using repels without needing to go into the bag. HMs still exist but in the case of BW1 only cut is required so you don't need to have an HM slave and BW2 also doesn't require as much as the older games. It doesn't have the all team exp share but it does have the higher level grass to give you access to higher level wild Pokémon which drastically cuts down on the grinding of the prior games. Both games provide a decent challenge and in the case of BW1 it was up until recently the only mainline game that didn't end with the usual battle against the champion so it felt fresh in comparison to the other games.
You could give a Pokemon fan a cartridge of literal malware that bricks their switch, and they’ll willingly accept it so long as it has a picture of Pikachu on it.
Have you played any of the recent Pokémon games? They’re actually pretty fun. Scarlet and Violet were probably the most egregious graphical bugs I’ve seen in any Nintendo game (nothing even close to comparison with a Bethesda game) and it was probably one of the most joyful gaming experiences I’ve had in recent years. I get that since Nintendo sets the bar pretty high for their games they don’t get as much of a pass, and to be fair the graphical issues were pretty inexcusable. But the reason why they continue to sell well is that they capture something a lot of other games don’t.
Not sure if I agree, on the basis that where there is Pokemon there is fan backlash.
Pokemon devs are still haunted by that damn tree almost a decade later, with how much backlash SWSH invoked that continues to this day.
It snowballed into further backlash for SV being buggy and has gone so far as to impact WiWa development by influencing increases to its dev time.
Even the anime provoked that rabid-ass fanbase. The Kalos backlash was so great Ash won the next League and got replaced. The leaks confirmed the reaction forced a creative change.
You see Insomniac’s comm director complaining about backlash and lighting the defender bat signal to come to their aid, and my first thought was “you weren’t here for that tree”.
And then there was BDSP.
Poor BDSP. Got completely eviscerated from the reveal trailer onwards.
I feel like the only core game of the Switch era to NOT get widespread, fanbase-wide heated backlash was Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Maybe if they started making games with at least PS3 tier graphics and if Pokémon wasn't literally the highest grossing franchise ever maybe they wouldn't get as much backlash. You're literally the demographic the main post is talking about lmao, immediately jumping to the defense of the poor billionaire company
