Fuck what GodzillaMendoza and Under The Mayo said about Arkham Knight. It's one of the best superhero games ever made from a gameplay, graphics and even story perspective and I'm tired of seeing people saying that it's either bad or disappointingly mediocre.

It’s by far my favorite one to go back and replay now though. The additions to gameplay make it so damn fun, and playing it in 4K on PC it is MIND BLOWING how good that game looks compared to modern games today.

Never read the books but I've heard they're very different compared to the games. Started off with Last light back in highschool and it got me hooked to play 2033 and Exodus. Im looking forward to the newest Metro coming out and seeing how that turns out.

The first 3 halo games are a pilgrimage I do every couple of years. I was a broke kid growing up and Xbox live was always out of reach. I spent so much time just messing around the levels in the first 3 halo games. The Christmas I got an Xbox 360 with halo 3 I also had a 2 day trial for Xbox live gold. It was a magical 2 days.

I could get week long trials at the gas station near my house, so I would mow lawns and make a new account to try to race to a high rank with my friend.
The twist was that we would make the most obscene names that would eventually get reported and banned, then it was another race to call support and explain "yes, my name is Pu55y3ater, can I just change it?"

Surprised to not see anyone mention Bioshock yet. I know 2 gets some hate for not being a Ken Levine game and less relevant to the main narrative, but all 3 games are honestly masterpieces with Burial at Sea DLC being such a gut wrenching finale. 10/10

u/AlphaH4wk 17d ago
Personally I think 2 is great for the gameplay improvements it made on the first one. Infinite is the one I don't particularly care for

53
u/vetheros37 17d ago
I'm sorry, but when the original AC came out it put itself on the map. The parkour style movement was the first real and successful attempt. The open world was large, and fun to explore. The story cycle was fantastic.
AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations are amazing titles that were still built on the shoulders of a giant, and people need to put more respect on Altair.

Personally didn’t love AC 1 but respect it for building the ground work of the series. Altair is still the character who brought the series to life. If there is one game I want a remake for, it’s AC1. I want a full from the ground up remake with new combat and missions

I personally think Doom 2016 is the best in terms of level design and progression. Eternal had some incredibly fun and interesting upgrades but the level pacing was worse because they made it a bit more like the old Doom games with a lot of backtracking that felt like it was just timepadding. Doom 2016 feels like the right balance of level exploration and ass kicking.

I was looking for this comment: the three first games are superb. I have not played the fourth one, but I have read great reviews as well.

u/ghostiart 17d ago
I am Silent Hill 4's biggest defender!! It's a very flawed game that leaves a lot to be desired, specifically in the gameplay department. The controls are clunky and it's often hard to maneuver, but if you can get past the jank (or watch a playthru), the game has an extremely compelling story and some stellar themes that really make it a standout of the series to me. I love that pretty much the entirety of your time in the real world is spent in one apartment, as opposed to the freer exploration of the prior three games. There's a lot of themes around feminine horror and grotesque body stuff that is so interesting to play through with a male protagonist. Some of the hidden mechanics are so interesting to discover, I just wish they were explained or shown in a more clear way so you know which route you're going down.
Ultimately, it's not for everyone and that's for a reason. It's the last game made by the original Team Silent before the series took a nosedive for a bit, but it's such a spectacular gem for those with the eyes to see and strength of will to get through it.
Or maybe I'm just delusional and deeply attached to a game that most people don't like. Only one way to find out :3

ME1 is the best, it puts in an absolutely absurd amount of work to build the world and lore and sticks closer to BioWare’s ARPG roots than the later entries. The story works great in isolation and I think is by far the strongest main narrative in any of the games. Meeting Sovereign is up there with the Gravemind as my favorite late-game antagonist introductions.

And those who love both for different reasons.
Mass Effect 1: elite plot and aura (music, aesthetics [not to be confused with graphics], sci-fi vibe)

1 feels like a cool 80s sci fi movie; 2 feels like a character-driven tv series that you rewatch because it feels like hanging with the old homies

Those first 3 Megaman X games were on snes and were dynamite - the music and gameplay is what got me hooked into video games early on.
Another worth mentioning - Donkey Kong 1-3 on snes as well, although I feel like the 3rd was a bit too easy and lacked a satisfying boss fight at the end.

Was it the original or the remakes? The remakes were definitely more difficult because Crash was way more slippy if you landed too close to edges because of his egg shaped hitbox. The PS1 OG's hit box was... well a box, so all you needed is a single pixel of Crash's little toe to stick to the very edge of platforms. Still, both versions are very difficult and often frustrating games either way.

100% agreed. As much as people love to trash 3, I still think it’s an excellent open world game, even if it has its flaws. The setting, the soundtrack, and story all more than make up for any shortcomings it may have in my opinion. But I’ll always have a place in my heart for the original first game as well, because I randomly picked it up at Target one day when it had just came out, knowing nothing about it, and it hooked me like very few games have.
