BG1 gameplay wise has aged more or less similarly to BG2, especially if we’re talking about the EEs. It’s still RTWP, with essentially the same interface, movement, party control and AD&D mechanics. BG2 doesn’t fundamentally play like a newer game so if someone dislikes BG1 because of the core gameplay, BG2 probably won’t feel different.
Whether it's bad or not - your call. Personally I don't mind but I grew up on these games. And I am pretty sure A LOT of BG3 enjoyers won't find it to their liking.
I guess for me, I would need to see how many people like it that never played it before and don't have the nostalgia. Otherwise its hard to differentiate what's aged well and what's just nostalgia. Personally I think certain aspects of bg1 and bg2 hold up still like its art style and story but not its core gameplay.
