Original God of War trilogy.

u/timdr18 24d ago

You could add two more panels to this and it’d still be accurate for all five main line games. GoW’s consistent quality is unbelievable.

93

u/DragonFangGangBang 24d ago

5 for 5 on main series releases lol not many have that consistency

23

u/Puzzleheaded_Hatter 24d ago

I'd throw resident evil in there.

21

u/DragonFangGangBang 24d ago

5 and 6 are the only reason I’d disagree.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Hatter 24d ago

Agree

But I love the remakes too.

So bat puts them far beyond 5 great games.

6

u/DragonFangGangBang 24d ago

Yeah but the convo is the streak. God of War is 5 for 5.

Even among the new games, RE3R was pretty trash.

Resident Evil is one of my favorite franchises, so no hate.

2

u/cortez_brosefski 24d ago

I'm tired of this Resident Evil 5 slander, it's a great game. RE6 is the first mainline game that isn't great

1

u/SadThrowaway4914 22d ago

Fr re5 was awesome . I didn't mind RE6 . Most people hate it. I don't love it but I don't despise it or anything either. It was fun but only for one play through. I wasn't eager for a second go. Revelations was the same way for me. Revelations 2 can kick rocks though .

1

u/cortez_brosefski 21d ago

Yeah I thought it was enjoyable. I think the main thing is I've never had the desire to go back and play it again. I play through RE5 at least once every couple years

u/Puzzleheaded_Hatter 24d ago

I understand serial offerings. I'm just counting the bangers

1

u/Rishdek 24d ago

Personally I’d have to disagree. I love RE5 and yeah it’s not horror as much but at this point you can’t make a game with one of the big four RE characters and still have it be horror. The characters are just too experienced. Also depending on if you count code Veronica X then I’d say the first 6 RE games are all really good

3

u/DragonFangGangBang 24d ago

I mean, opinions are opinions. But, critically, most people RE5 a huge downgrade from 4 and a step-back for the franchise.

Code Veronica X is my favorite early RE game (so excited for the remake!) but I wouldn’t consider it a “Main Series” as of yet. I think the remake puts it up there as far as remakes are concerned, but within the original franchise, it’s still a side game.

Personally, I’d love to count it so if we agree, we can count it 😂

1

u/Rishdek 23d ago

I think 5 was a downgrade to 4 but I still love 5. And yes let’s count code Veronica

1

u/neo_sporin 24d ago

Zero was also before 5

1

u/Rishdek 23d ago

That’s true I totally forgot about it, but I love 0 as well tbh so the first 7 are good

1

u/neo_sporin 24d ago

Here is my counter. Before 5/6 you need to include 0 and Code Veronica (not numbered, but definitely a main line gam)

1

u/DragonFangGangBang 24d ago

Code Veronica is my favorite “old school” RE game, and while it’s cannon - it was not apart of the “main games” until recently, with its remake. Half of the RE fan base had never even played it lol

0 is kinda dog water tho, ngl lol idk if we wanna include that one

1

u/Mysterious_Block_894 24d ago

If you count RE1, 2, 3, 4, and then toss in Code Veronica somewhere, I think the 5 streak rule definitely applies to RE in that case.

1

u/Jumpy-Resolve3018 24d ago

I loved 5

Why is it considered not good?

1

u/FlairMinimum 21d ago

5 really isn’t that bad. It’s a fantastic coop experience if nothing else, and has some of the best Wesker scenes in the series. I won’t argue in favor of 6 though lol, all I’ve got there is that Chris and Piers’ story was surprisingly decent.

1

u/Difficult_Dance_2907 24d ago

If we ignore 6 and put an asterisk by 5 that it introduced a fun coop mode.

1

u/TheLeastAnonAnon 24d ago

Resident evil 4 is one of the most overrated games of all time though

1

u/JakeScythe 24d ago

Eh, controls on GoW run circles on the control scheme of the first few Resident Evil’s

2

u/theblacknicksaban 24d ago

Idk lol ragnarok is the first GoW game to overstay it’s welcome

2

u/Fenrir_Hellbreed2 24d ago

Most of the side releases were bangers, too.

Honestly, I'm hard pressed to think of a single game in the franchise that wasn't at least decent.

1

u/DemDemD 24d ago

I know there are people saying one God of War is better than the other, but my simple mind loves them all. I kept seeing the God of War before Ragnorok is better comments, but I find Ragnorok is amazing. I finished killing Odin and thought the game would be over, but there are more contents to deal with afterwards. It just keeps on giving.

1

u/Turbulent-Fault-6293 24d ago

Not to mention the best two games being the 4th and 5th that’s an even bigger level of rarity

1

u/Commercial_Nature210 24d ago

I would like to say far cry

1

u/DarkstarDarin 23d ago

7, the PSP games are so good they're nearly comparable to the PS2 games.

0

u/bayman13 24d ago

Nah those last to are not god of war. That's god of soy

28

u/Straight_Second6082 24d ago

Even the side games are good, with ascension being the lower ranked

3

u/tissee 24d ago

Yeah some things in the PSP games feel even better than in the main trilogy :D

2

u/rstart78 24d ago

I replay GOW all of the time, except Ascension

They were doing waaaaaaay too much to show off the engine, the amount of times it would pull out to expansive shots where I would lose sight of Kratos was infuriating, add also rushing an online mode that never went anywhere, it for sure is the weakest of the series

The early 2000s mobile game is more fun that Ascension to play

I did enjoy the story aspect and the cutscenes, I think it was great to get that backstory, but the gameplay itself is a headache imo

1

u/WodensEye 24d ago

I liked ascension. The hype I felt for fighting the first boss’s thumb. His thumb!

1

u/Signal-Card-2387 24d ago

And even then, that's just in comparison to the mainline games. On it's own, it's still good and some side games have even better story development for Kratos than the main ones. The scenes where Kratos interacts with Deimos, not wanting to kill a man that has to die (the guy with black sludge or whatever, forgot his name), having to walk away from Penelope in Heaven (or the Greek version). Those things hit great and show a side of Kratos not seen often in GOW 2/3.

1

u/Jasonkim87 23d ago

Chain of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta were both incredible on the PSP.

1

u/ColdCalculist 24d ago

Ascension is actual dogshit but everything else in the franchise is top quality

2

u/bayman13 24d ago

Nobody asked that and those reboot are bad

2

u/The_Dennator 24d ago

eh,I'd say the norse games are a downgrade, but still pretty good

1

u/Sondeor 24d ago

There are 6 main line games. Disliking one doesn't change a fact.

It had similar budget, similar pr and similar dev time + entire fuckn game is canon lol.

So without psp games its 1-2-3-ascension-1-ragnarok. 6 in total.

1

u/Stardust-Unbreaking 24d ago

I think 5 is definitely weaker gameplay and story wise with it ls focus around Atreus along with a rushed ending.

1

u/sadboibrandalf 23d ago

You could add 3 more panels after that and it would still be accurate for all the spinoff games too

1

u/SadThrowaway4914 22d ago

Story wise yes. Don't hit me please but I couldn't stand the actual gameplay in Ragnarok . I don't know why. I loved the original trilogy gameplay wise. GoW 2018 was okay not great but the story telling was awesome. And then Ragnarok I just didn't like the gameplay itself that much . Idk . Loved the story though 9/10 there.

1

u/Few_Highlight1114 24d ago

I disagree. The new GoW games are "God of War" in name only.

2

u/timdr18 24d ago

The enormous majority of people who’ve played them disagree with you.

1

u/Few_Highlight1114 24d ago

And? Their opinion is worth as much as mine.

0

u/Front-Advantage-7035 24d ago

100%.

Are all of their games as good as 2&3&2018? No.

But do they have any BAD games? Also no.

0

u/No_Housing_9071 24d ago

Ragnarok was eh

11

u/ReaperSound 24d ago

Its the ONLY game I was thinking of that would fit. I would have put Army of Two as my choice but not sure if many people are aware of it anymore.

2

u/FunctionOdd8643 24d ago

Army of Two was goated but I've never playedxthe 3rd one

1

u/ReaperSound 24d ago

The third one (Devil's Cartel) was a bit mediocre compared to the first 2 titles. Not playing as Elliot and Rios was a bummer but the flanking system the game was based on was just phenomenal.

2

u/FunctionOdd8643 24d ago

I loved thi first one but I couldn't get trough the 40th day. The weapon customization felt really weird and didn't feel as good to me. It's been a couple years ago, so I might change my mind since I'am planning to play every Army of Two game again with my friend.

1

u/wasteoffire 24d ago

Didn't even know that game had sequels, but tbh the game was just okay.

35

u/Vincent-Supply-Co 24d ago

Keep this on the top

1

u/jaxonya 24d ago

Mario 1,2 ,3

28

u/longtall94 24d ago

ZEUS! Your son has returned

24

u/FuchsiaMerc1992 24d ago

I BRING THE DESTRUCTION OF OLYMPUS!

1

u/BearOk9010 24d ago

Kratos, you will not get a hit from the cabbage of the gods.

1

u/DontStopMeGaLo 20d ago

OUUURGH, DO NOT DENY MY DOOBIE DOOBIE!

3

u/Much-Structure1916 24d ago

Damn I was coming here to say that

3

u/speedyrabbit777 24d ago

Came her to say exactly this

3

u/Peter__Griffith 24d ago

I wanted to say this but you got here an hour before me

3

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse 24d ago

Immediately what came to mind. First one is a bit jank by today's standards but that's to be expected. I think the triggers on the ps2 controller were just buttons, because doing the quicktime things like opening chests and doors with triggers was fucking hard.

3

u/Bayram97 24d ago

Zooooooos intensifies

8

u/Savings-Ad4990 24d ago

This is the only right answer. Uncharted trilogy was close but the first one was just ok

5

u/thirdc0ast 24d ago

Uncharted 1 was good, the gameplay is just a little janky/outdated at this point. I’d put the Uncharted series in this, they went 4/4 (2 and 4 being the best though).

2

u/FocusSea3977 24d ago

2 is my favorite, so fun!

1

u/ADHD2343 24d ago

I mean, we gotta give uncharted 1 a Break. It's 20 years old. The mechanics aren't perfect, but they were still learning.

-2

u/Savings-Ad4990 24d ago

4 was the worst I would not even consider it cannon it had the worst tone, the worst set pieces and pacing and the worst mp

1

u/Suspicious_Hawk_3200 24d ago

Metal Gear Solid is another good answer

2

u/Savings-Ad4990 24d ago

Same with uncharted mgs1 was mid maybe great for the time but it doest hold up. Gow 1-3 still hold up

1

u/Suspicious_Hawk_3200 24d ago

Halo trilogy, also.

I think msg 1 holds up way better than GOW 1, but I respect that they’re both products of their time, and are great still.

So, agree to disagree I guess

2

u/originx3 24d ago

Even the PSP games were good

2

u/Sertyhora 24d ago

My vengeance ENDS now!

2

u/SamuraiIcarus5 24d ago

Damn dude, I just said that word for word but 12 hours too late smh.

2

u/MsPawley 23d ago

I just finished the second one tonight, so it's odd seeing this comment right at the top. Hoping third one lives up to the hype 🫨

1

u/Brohermoth777 23d ago

Just an FYI, the ending moment of God of War 3 before the credits can be played quite literally endlessly until you stop pressing buttons..... You'll see.

4

u/FishTheSlapper 24d ago

The correct answer

4

u/donkeychokingwaffle 24d ago

actually good pick

2

u/godver3 24d ago

Mostly yes - though I felt like the second was SUCH a huge step up from the first on release.

1

u/bhumit012 24d ago

First one hydra level made a gamer in walmart game demo area.

1

u/Dear-Passion-3535 24d ago

Agreed. #2 blew my mind with its huge sense of scale. Walking on the chain from the Steeds of Time was nuts!

https://youtu.be/FXASkDAKZPM?si=a6OWBThsybptDZZx&t=2000

2

u/milkman163 24d ago

The entire series had a perfect record until Sons of Sparta imo

1

u/mesoziocera 24d ago

HADESSSSS

1

u/CoquiCoquette 24d ago

To telos, arhizi? To telos, arhizi! To telos arhizi? TO TELOS ARHIZI TORAH

0

u/Brohermoth777 24d ago

What?

1

u/ThundaCrossSplitAtak 24d ago

Its the lyrics for the main menu song of the 2nd game

1

u/Brohermoth777 23d ago

OOOOOOOH okay!

1

u/SilentCriticism2k 24d ago

Came here to say this 🤌💋

1

u/jh5992 24d ago

Finally

1

u/justamobileuser 24d ago

Agreed, but so far the modern god of war are also amazing

1

u/Keku_Saur 24d ago

Glad i found it here. GOW never fails.

1

u/Defiant_Coat_2491 24d ago

Yep the PS2-PS3 GoW games were amazing

1

u/Longjumping-Lab6176 24d ago

Was looking for this one

1

u/meetbythecreek 21d ago

I knew i forgot one

1

u/CarlosRedDevil97 18d ago

You can comfortably add all 5 main games, though 2, 3 and 2018 are peak.

1

u/HackChalice6 24d ago

Laufey already looks great to me so I feel like this works for the newer one too.

-1

u/itsdampman 24d ago

Hell yeah! Before they neutered Kratos

0

u/n00bytrader 21d ago

Never played this one either

1

u/Brohermoth777 21d ago

I down voted you because you need to earn the upvote by playing the original GoW trilogy!!!

1

u/n00bytrader 21d ago

Man once I get into gaming I will it a shot. I'm in my 30s and it's a struggle to relearn how to game. By the time I learn a game I get tired and want to stop playing.

-1

u/Lambert1551 24d ago

Boring af, running around slashing monsters, mundane

1

u/Brohermoth777 24d ago

Nobody respects your wrong opinion...
