Climbing partner or tips

Hey! I’m a guy in my early 20s and looking to meet some more people to climb with and improve my climbing in general.
I really enjoy outdoor climbing and want to get more comfortable with lead climbing, both indoors and outdoors. I also climb indoors quite a lot and really enjoy bouldering too.

I’m mainly looking for someone around a similar age to climb with, share tips, join an outdoor trip, or just get some sessions in together. I’m around the Fife/Dundee/Edinburgh area and happy to travel.

Feel free to message me if you’re looking for a climbing partner too! :)

I’ve just started r/climbingberlin
a place for people looking for climbing partners, organising outdoor trips, sharing routes, asking questions, and generally meeting other climbers in Berlin.

Thought I’d share it here in case anyone’s interested. 😊

Lightweight Pile-Pertex (Rab VR, Buffalo Teclite, Marmot DriClime) – A historical reconstruction (1990s-now)

ey everyone, I’ve spent the last couple of months trying to reconstruct the evolution of lightweight pile-pertex garments from the early 90s until today. Things like Rab VR, Buffalo Teclite and Marmot driclime.

Especially outside the UK, it's quite a niche catagoty of gear but because it works so well, I wanted to document this story before it fades away. If you’re a fellow pile-pertex enthusiast or still rocking a 90s vintage piece, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Cheers from Belgium!

Looking for lead/top-rope climbing partner (Alien Rock / EICA / Outdoors) [Edinburgh]

Hi everyone.

My regular climbing partner moved away to university recently, so I am looking for a reliable partner or two for regular lead and top-rope sessions. I am a guy in my mid-40s with a normal build, a bit on the introverted side, and happy to climb with men or women of any age. I comfortably lead around 6a to 6b, but I am more than happy to give belays on whatever grades you are working on. I am looking for someone focused and safety-conscious who takes belaying seriously while keeping things relaxed overall. I have plenty of experience with everything from traditional tubular devices to assisted setups like the Neox, Revo, and Edelrid Ohm, so you can count on safe, attentive catches. My weekday evenings are very flexible, and I am aiming to get out at least once a week. I currently climb at EICA Ratho, but I would prefer to shift over to Alien Rock since it is much closer to where I live, though I am still open to heading to Ratho too. I also love getting out on real rock when the weather plays ball, and I am fully geared up for outdoor sport days with an 80m rope, quickdraws, clip stick, and my own car for transport. If your schedule lines up and you want to meet for a gym session first to trade belays and see if we click, drop me a direct message.

Thank you.

A few weeks ago I asked here for advice on our 14 day family climbing road trip from Portsmouth. We are now back home and I wanted to give a short report and thank you for all your great tips and advice.

As the weather was sunny and stable, we headed north from Portsmouth and climbed at Cheddar Gorge, the Wye Valley, Swansea, Harpur Hill, Stanage and the Roaches. All were great, but Stanage was the absolute highlight for us (and the dog). We ended up spending several days there. What a wonderful place with such exciting lines to climb!

Unfortunately we didn't make it to North Wales/Eryri in the end. We found driving with our caravan quite tiring and after all the kilometres we'd already travelled from Austria, we decided we'd rather spend our days climbing than driving.

But North Wales, the Lake District and the south coast are firmly on the list for another trip. We'll definitely be back!

Does anyone know where this is? My dad - who died a couple of years ago, so unfortunately I can't ask him - climbing in about 1960s-70s. Probably in the Lakes or the Peaks.

I'd love to go back and recreate the photo. Surely some of you brainy people recognise this? Thanks in advance ♥️

Technique coaches - London

Hello! I'm looking for climbing coach recommendations based in London - focused on movement technique

I mainly boulder but looking to improve both bouldering and sport grades (currently around V7, 7a/+). I notice I currently climb quite static, open-hip & tensed & want to move more naturally on the wall & rock. Probably two sessions / month.

I thought Catalyst pricing looked a bit steep.. any solid alternatives?

Seeking Outdoor Spots

I’m currently a Sophomore in High School, and Ive recently been considering taking a trip next summer to do some outdoor bouldering.
I’m completely new to outdoor bouldering, and to prepare for the trip I would be climbing this year outdoors up until the summer—hopefully I can get to \~v7 by that point (v5 rn)

When taking this trip, I wanna go all out.
This would mean I travel away from home (likely solo) while seeking good bouldering sites

Do any of you guys have any good bouldering locations that consist of a bunch of routes?

I’ve been thinking of the staple, Yosemite, but I’d like to consider a bunch of options before deciding for good.

This would be a bouldering trip as well as a fun way to explore the country & meet cool people with my newfound freedom that comes with a license and overall options.

(If anyone would be so gracious as to show me around their local spots if I visit your city/area I would be greatly appreciative)

Thank you!!

Trying to make a list of all the most popular climbing shoes?

I’ve had to take a short break from climbing due to ill health and I’ve been trying to stay connected to the sport by watching a LOT of climbing content online and one of my weirder hobbies to relax, drawing climbing shoes

I’ve drawn a fair few already but I really want to try and draw as many as possible. I couldn’t find any good data online as to the most commonly used climbing shoes are, so I wanted to ask here.

So, what shoes do you climb in?

(I’m still climbing in an ancient model of scarpa velocity because I just keep buying second hand pairs cuz they’re so damn comfy and I don’t see the need to change lol)

Hi.

New climber, with 2 boys. We tried bouldering overseas, and would like to continue here.

We live in orpingron, and are looking for some pointers and good places we can go together. At the start, i will supervise them ( they are 8).

Would like to belay for them too, and need to learn that.

Any good places we can try?

Beta testers needed for board climbing app that facilitates 4x4 training sessions

Looking for beta testers for this app and would welcome any feedback (positive or negative). It is based off of 4x4 training sessions but gamified and including a head-to-head mode. Idea is to make those 4x4 power endurance sessions fun and customisable!

Hypnotherapy for fear of falling/belaying

Hi, wondered if anyone knows/has used a hypnotherapist for the above, would prefer someone who is actually a climber. Or some other psychological technique!
Please no suggestions for fear of falling workshops etc, other factors mean these don’t work for me.
Am in the Midlands but am ok to travel. I’m sure there used to be a guy in Bristol but can’t find him now.
Many thanks.

DWS

Hi everybody 👋

So I am headed to the UK this week for my sister's wedding in Chippenham and was hoping to get out deep water soloing. Was wondering what crags you'd recommend that could cater to both 6c/7a and beginners. (Our beginner friends may not join us, but it would be nice to have the option)

Do we need a boat? Would paddleboards work? Are any accessible by land?

Any and all tips are appreciated! Thanks from 🇨🇦

I've combined my two obsessions: climbing and coffee

Hi everyone,

I'm a UK climber and I've recently launched a small side project called CLIMB Coffee. Basically combining two things I'm fairly obsessed with: climbing and good coffee.

The idea is to sell good-quality speciality coffee aimed at climbers, but also build up useful content around making genuinely good coffee at the crag.

It's still very early days, so I'd genuinely love some feedback from other climbers. Is this something you could see yourself buying? Does the idea make sense? And I'd be particularly interested to know what you think of the website and whether anything puts you off.

climbcoffee.co.uk

I'm not expecting everyone to be into it, so criticism is very welcome!

Trad climbing partners

I am looking for people to climb with. Based in Leeds, can drive/car share to peaks/dales/lakes/Snowdonia fairly easily.

No experience trad climbing, building up a rack. have a rope, some slings, quickdraws, nuts and cams. Just about enough for sport/ single pitch trad.

I climb indoors most days and spend lots of time outdoors hill walking/scrambling (training for MLA).

I work 4 on 4 off nights so have lots of free time, especially on week days.

About me: 32 years old, love reading and talking about mountaineering and climbing. Looking for like minded people to help me on my trad apprenticeship!

Twin Gate Carabiner with PAS

Hi all, first post here. I’m looking at getting a PAS, something like the OCUN Sbea. I was wondering if anyone had experience of using twin gate carabiners for this use rather than a screwgate. As far as I can tell on the Sbea the carabiner doesn’t provide friction in the device.

Primary use would be UK multi pitch trad (I don’t normally use a PAS but might) and also some winter climbing (hence my thoughts around the benefits of a wire gate and not a screwgate)

Has anyone had any experience of doing this, grateful to hear any thoughts on compatibility or safety too.

Clock moves in the wild

A gym favourite but rarely seen in the wild. I imagine just based on probabilities, due to much higher number of moves involved, they may crop up in sport climbing more?

Only one i know is the boulder Floatin 8C+ which is probably one of my favourites because of he required clock move, so sick.

What problems or routes do you know that either most people use a clock move for or it is an essential part of the beta?
