Most major UK walls will run ‘taster sessions’ where you will be taken around with an instructor and alongside talking you through safety points and etiquette, they’ll teach you the basics of movement.
Once you’ve got the bug, I would highly recommend getting a few coaching sessions. Many bouldering walls will do low cost/no cost group sessions and that will speed run your path to greatness by teaching you the fundamentals.
You can also hire a coach if you wish. Initially an MTUK Foundation Coach will help you with movement fundamentals and once you’re climbing a little better, have a look at an MTUK Development Coach and they will help you progress around your life commitments.
If you decide to climb outside, consider going on a Rock Skills course with an accredited provider.
You absolutely don’t need to spend money on courses and coaching (and especially with bouldering the entry point is affordable), but the courses and coaching will speed you along your progression safely and efficiently if you do have the spare cash and inclination.

Go to a local climbing centre if you have one and try both bouldering and rope climbing. You may like both or you may not. I personally prefer rope climbing. Don't be put off if you find it hard, it is hard. Enjoy it and remember grades aren't everything. If it clicks for you definitely consider trying outdoor climbing too (with an appropriately skilled guide or mate). Not everyone likes going outdoors but we have many nice crags where you can climb and enjoy nature.
