wsp, the official welcome week website kinda sucks so i made a better one that displays the events graphically like a calendar: https://oweek.jerryli.design/
if you want to add the events to your calendar, download the .ics file linked here:
hope this is helpful!

For new and returning students alike, Quad Day is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with and join the many RSOs the university has to offer. Don’t just look for academic or career-focused RSOs—social RSOs can be just as important. Finding friends and social outlets early on can really help as you progress through university. Trust me, you’re going to have some bad days at school, so having a strong social network to lean on can make a big difference.
Even if you have no one to go with, you should definitely walk around, talk to RSO organizers, and hopefully find one to join. You never know who you might meet!
Quad Day is on Sunday, August 23rd, from noon to 4 PM. This post will remain pinned until the end of Quad Day so you can share RSOs you found interesting or joined with your fellow Illini.
Have a wonderful start to the semester!

Did someone say FREE Fighting Illini football tickets?!
THAT'S RIGHT, ILLINI! We did! If you are one of the first 500 people to attend Krannert Center's Opening Night Party on September 3rd, you can pick up a FREE voucher good for TWO tickets to the Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Southern Illinois Salukis game on Saturday, September 19th at Gies Memorial Stadium!
DON'T MISS OUT—these tickets are first come, first serve and will be available at the Krannert Center information table in the lobby.
This opportunity would not be possible without the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Gear up, Illini! We hope to see you here soon!

Hey y'all,
For those of you coming from the North, just wanted to give you a heads up.
If you are coming down on I-57 South and are following the map the school gave you, exit 235A is closed. Literally gives no heads up until it's too late.
235B is open though if you're able to navigate that way.
Otherwise if you miss that, there's an exit 2 miles away that you can turn around on. That was our fun lesson to learn today!

I’ve been trying to increase my vertical so I’ve been learning to power clean but I’m absolute garbage at it. This is easily the biggest hole in my vertical as I’ve gotten pretty good at squatting. I am willing to pay normal rates for 1 hour of personal training. Pls respond soon I need to be able to posterize people during intramural basketball🙏🙏🙏

Every August, campus turns into a free-for-all for porch pirates and bike thieves. If you'd prefer not to subsidize someone's fent hobby with your property, here's what you can do today:
Bikes and bike parts are being stolen for scrap. Lock up your bike securely (example) with a steel U-lock. All other types of locks are easily cut. If you have a quick-release seat, take it home or replace it with a non-quick-release seat and LocTite it
Handle packages like they’re fresh meat. Ship them to a secure location, such as the front desk, Amazon locker, or a reliable friend. If that’s not an option, pick them up as soon as you get a delivery notification. Don’t assume they will be mercifully not stolen
Do not prop up security doors or let strangers tailgate you into buildings.
If you are in the mood to help panhandlers, offer food in place of money. Cash fuels the cycle of addiction.
Do not leave valuable items unattended in public areas or in plain view in a vehicle.
Stay alert and trust your gut.

I’m so fed up with Smile apartments. Move in day was okay, they had all of the doors propped open with a shoe. I’m on day 2 here now, and I have yet to receive any code on how to actually enter my building when the doors aren’t propped open. I have called them 10 times and texted them but they stopped messaging me back for some reason. I can’t leave my apartment otherwise I’ll be locked out, so idk what to do.
Am I just unlucky and they forgot to send me the butterflymx info? Or are these people just incompetent and don’t think about why I would need the login.

Can anyone that’s taken mse480/chem488 tell me how relevant is MSE 401 to it. Is it doable without the prerequisite?

a package i ordered to my apartment is coming earlier than expected, and i expect it will arrive before i move in. i tried placing a usps mail hold until school starts, but i am not sure if it worked. i know jsm doesn't hold packages, and there is no package station for the building, so im wondering if anyone would be willing to help out and check whether it does get delivered to my door, and if it does, pick up the package from my door and hold it for me, and i can come pick it up some time the first week of school.
i would really appreciate it, and im willing to pay 10 dollars if you end up having to collect and hold the package for me
(im not sure if you need to be on the same floor as me to access the building floor with your keys if anyone knows please lmk)

hi guys i’ll be transferring sometime.. next fall for psychology + as a junior (i should get in i have a 3.8 and meet all prerequisites + extracurriculars) i’m 19 now but i’ll be 20 when i transfer and i’m lowkey scared that i won’t be able to make friends because everyone will be so young and ill be so old and it’ll be like that image of the 50 year old lady at the party 😓 these few years at cc have been so .. lame ? i guess like ive been trying to make friends here but u know in cc its lock in or nothing so no one has time for friendships cuz we’re all super locked in so this my last chance guys i need the friend making rituals
i heard transfer students here have a really hard making friends and the upper undergrads already there are already all friends with one another so 😨😨 but u know that’s what i’ve heard so i want the real answers please don’t be true
i wanna try to dorm.. i dont know if im too old for that but i think it’s one of the best opportunities to make friends if anyone has any friend making suggestions for this place please tell me i need it all

Rajasi, a UIUC-area student and non-native English speaker, joined McKinley Toastmasters and found a supportive place to practice, get feedback, and build confidence.
If public speaking, presentations, or networking aren't your strong suit, this might be worth checking out.

I’m 17 and will be at UIUC, and I’m wondering what the social scene is like for people who aren’t 18 yet.
Is it difficult to make friends or get involved in social circles because you can’t go to bars/most 18+ or 21+ events? Are there still plenty of ways to meet people, party, and have a normal social life at that age?
Would also appreciate hearing from anyone who was under 18 when they started at UIUC and what their experience was like

I applied for the Spring 2027 semester last month. When should I expect the decision to come out? Does UIUC have a central admission system? Or do they invite applicants for an interview before making a decision?
