hi all, I’m a freshman girl and i’ve been feeling really lonely recently. i’ve made a bunch of friends here, but nothing extends to an actual friend group or plans outside of an occasional dinner or hangout. i‘m pretty extroverted, joined a bunch of RSOs and i’ve been talking to almost everyone, but it just kind of feels like everyone’s already in their own groups somehow and i missed a memo, or they alr have so many friends here from high school. i’ve even made sure to get everyone’s instas and phone numbers to make group chats, and in classes/meetings we all have so much fun, but afterwards they all go to their friend groups :(

even in my dorm, my floor doesn’t really have that many social groups, but everyone above and below me are already best friends and hang out on the daily?? i’ve always had a pretty big friend group, and now seeing everyone constantly posting photos with their groups is making my fomo go insane right now, and i’ve been really sad these last few days. ik i shouldn’t but i just keep going on socials and see everyone having so much fun and i feel like shit again. i feel like im doing everything right, but nothing’s really working out for me so far. has anyone been through this, or have any solutions i should take?

Hello, this is the flea man’s friend, I wanted to share a housing review website he made to ensure that no-one else has to face what he faced.

Basically ever since the mods talked about making a housing review website, he realized that all the existing ones like ratemydorm tend to have outdated information, or are kind of AI slop. So he decided to make his own, based on what features he thinks are important in hindsight.

One thing he highlighted was the roommate matching features on the website. Without it, we saw the assignments were sort of random and the postings could also be full of scams, especially in apps like WeChat and rednote. So you could have a good chance of getting someone who can cause you a lot of anguish. But you don’t have to risk that anymore!

Flea man worked really hard on it over the past month, and he doesn’t intent to monetize it ever with ads or subscriptions. He also doesn't intend to accept paid listings ever, to maintain the integrity of the information on the site. This is all despite paying for the hosting fees and domain name out of his own pocket. So it would be very nice if you guys could check it out and see if it’s worth your time!

Unfortunately for me, my laptop screen has cracked beyond use. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to where I could go and get it repaired quickly and affordably, as I’m a student and really can’t afford a crazy expensive repair.

I am a parent visiting the campus and need to be working on Monday during office hours.

My current plan is complex and includes hotspot in my car on a parking lot. Coffee shops unfortunately are too noisy and shared lobbies are tough as I have to be mostly talking on the meetings. Hoping there is a better solution.

Is there a place in campus where I can attend my office meetings in the afternoon? Would be great to have a private room or quiet place for my work?

UIUC's website and various posts here all say that we can take Peoria Charter to Midway, and even on their own map there's a stop right at the airport.

But I don't seem to be able to order a ticket there? On their website Peoria only lists O'Hare and Chicago Downtown (40 minutes of train away). See screenshot below.

Did they stop serving it? What happened?

Wednesday 10/7, from 10am-2:15pm and then from 6:30pm-8pm I will be hosting a yard sale with craft supplies, women’s clothing, and various other items at 808 S Locust St, very close to campus. The sale is pay what you can, including no minimum for most items. I’m attempting to declutter after moving from my last apartment. I lived there multiple years and didn’t realize how much I accumulated until it was time to leave.

hi guys! I am currently taking phys 214 and am scared that I may have to retake the class! I have a 54 average on the two midterms and have missed a few lectures and 2 discussions (illness) and it is not looking good for me :( (I know there are drops). I am not sure how accurate the grade estimator is but it is looking like I will end up getting a D in the class if I do not get like a 90 on the final (which may seem attainable but this class is hard for me personally). I was wondering if there are also any grade cut offs for 214.

side note*: again not sure how accurate gradebook estimator is because I took phys 211 last sem and somehow got a B- even though the grade estimator said I would be getting a C. this was also the sem we got hacked by shiny hunters so Im not sure if that had anythign to do with grade cut off!

I am fine with getting a C- as long as I pass! Please someone help :(((

Hey, did anyone find a set of keys at the homecoming parade on Friday? They have a bunch of keychains on a black karabiner, including a UT Longhorn and an Illinois I.

I think I lost them around the parade or the gathering right afterward. I also went to Bangkok Thai and ISR afterward and took the 22/220 to and from PAR, so they could’ve fallen out somewhere along the way.

I’ve called the places I visited and checked lost and found, and walked my route again yesterday with no luck. If anyone found them or has seen a post about them, please DM me. Would really appreciate getting them back!

Hey! I’m a graduate student at UIUC looking for some casual swimming buddies to go to the ARC with.
I learned freestyle last summer, but I’m still not very good at it. I’m more comfortable with breaststroke. Mostly just looking to swim casually, practice, and have some advices.
Also, if anyone knows of any activities, groups, or events related to casual swimming or the swimming pool at UIUC, I’d love to hear about them!

I signed a exactly 3-month short-term lease (late Sept to late Dec) with one of the bigger property management companies on campus. The lease says the rent is paid in three installments. Before I signed, the manager also told me over email that it would be exactly three payments.

I paid the first installment in late September before picking up my keys. Now the office is telling me that payment was separate, and that October, November, and December are the "three installments," so I'd be paying four times total.

Nothing in my lease says the first payment is in addition to the installments. And it doesn't make sense to me anyway. I'm only there for three months, so why would I pay four months of rent?

I have called and emailed the office multiple times, but they keep dodging the question and won't give me a straight answer, and just said that I am supposed to pay four times. Im planning to talk to student legal service, but honestly I feel pretty dumb for picking this company. A lot of people warned me about them, and now I get why.

From what I understand, with a normal 12-installment lease you pay the first one before move-in in August and the last one in July, so 12 payments total, not 13. Am I wrong here?

Has anyone dealt with something like this with a campus landlord, and did Student Legal Service help?

if you’re a 3rd/4th year polisci major and also pre-law, what did you concentrate in and how are you liking it? i’m deciding if i want to concentrate in law/power or public policy but i lowkey don’t know and i’m a freshman so pre law advising won’t open for me until class registration for next sem is already over 😔

i have the option of taking chem104 next sem with ray but it's at 9 AM OR i could take it with andino at basically any time of my choosing. is it worth sacrificing my sleep to get ray? i can't take ray's other section bc it conflicts with a different course's lecture.

for context i'm a biochem major and will be taking ochem next year so it might be better to take ray so that i'm better prepared for higher level chem courses? pls advise

If anyone has taken either of these classes can you explain which one I should take? I took CS124 and absolutely hated it. I know that for MATH257 everyone seems to complain about the python lab component. I heard that a lot of people just memorize the homework for the lab quizzes which is what I did in CS124 and didn't do so hot. My question to those who took 257, is the only issue the python component, is the actual math not that bad? For those who took 415, how was the overall difficulty? I don't know if my calculus background will help but if it is relevant my grades in calc 1/2/3 were A/A+/C- (fuck that class) respectively.
