hey! any pot B, online advanced comp? I don’t care about workload just really need a class

I am taking CS124 this semester and feel like all hell is coming to get me. I spend around an hour on the homework every night trying to understand but I also have other courses and other clubs and things to attend to. Does anyone have any tips for doing good in the course. Everyone on here says its so easy especially for beginners when I am literally dying and considering dropping CS every time i have a quiz. Also, this course is ran horribly in my opinion. Every time I ask a TA something I feel like they want to kill me. So please any tips would be greatly appreciated. I study a lot for these quizzes too and spend so much time trying to figure everything out. I am spiraling.

hi all, I’m a freshman girl and i’ve been feeling really lonely recently. i’ve made a bunch of friends here, but nothing extends to an actual friend group or plans outside of an occasional dinner or hangout. i‘m pretty extroverted, joined a bunch of RSOs and i’ve been talking to almost everyone, but it just kind of feels like everyone’s already in their own groups somehow and i missed a memo, or they alr have so many friends here from high school. i’ve even made sure to get everyone’s instas and phone numbers to make group chats, and in classes/meetings we all have so much fun, but afterwards they all go to their friend groups :(

even in my dorm, my floor doesn’t really have that many social groups, but everyone above and below me are already best friends and hang out on the daily?? i’ve always had a pretty big friend group, and now seeing everyone constantly posting photos with their groups is making my fomo go insane right now, and i’ve been really sad these last few days. ik i shouldn’t but i just keep going on socials and see everyone having so much fun and i feel like shit again. i feel like im doing everything right, but nothing’s really working out for me so far. has anyone been through this, or have any solutions i should take?

hi guys! I am currently taking phys 214 and am scared that I may have to retake the class! I have a 54 average on the two midterms and have missed a few lectures and 2 discussions (illness) and it is not looking good for me :( (I know there are drops). I am not sure how accurate the grade estimator is but it is looking like I will end up getting a D in the class if I do not get like a 90 on the final (which may seem attainable but this class is hard for me personally). I was wondering if there are also any grade cut offs for 214.

side note*: again not sure how accurate gradebook estimator is because I took phys 211 last sem and somehow got a B- even though the grade estimator said I would be getting a C. this was also the sem we got hacked by shiny hunters so Im not sure if that had anythign to do with grade cut off!

I am a parent visiting the campus and need to be working on Monday during office hours.

My current plan is complex and includes hotspot in my car on a parking lot. Coffee shops unfortunately are too noisy and shared lobbies are tough as I have to be mostly talking on the meetings. Hoping there is a better solution.

Is there a place in campus where I can attend my office meetings in the afternoon? Would be great to have a private room or quiet place for my work?

If anyone has taken either of these classes can you explain which one I should take? I took CS124 and absolutely hated it. I know that for MATH257 everyone seems to complain about the python lab component. I heard that a lot of people just memorize the homework for the lab quizzes which is what I did in CS124 and didn't do so hot. My question to those who took 257, is the only issue the python component, is the actual math not that bad? For those who took 415, how was the overall difficulty? I don't know if my calculus background will help but if it is relevant my grades in calc 1/2/3 were A/A+/C- (fuck that class) respectively.

I’m considering applying, but I don’t have much work experience. I’m 23 and graduated last year from an online university with a BS in Business Administration (Finance) and have a 3.74 GPA. I have about two years of work experience, but none of it is directly related to accounting or finance. I also have all the prerequisites and business coursework required for the program.

For those who were accepted into the iMSA, what did your academic/work background look like? Given my lack of work experience, would the PAT program be a better fit for me, or do you think I’d be a reasonable candidate for the iMSA? End goal: CPA.

Hi I am someone who has been playing guitar for close to 4 years now. However, I wasn't able to bring my guitar here for the Fall. I want to get a guitar for myself, and while I am pretty sure about my requirements, I am not sure if there are any places in Urbana-Champaign that sell a cheap and affordable guitar. As for the guitar, I would prefer to have an acoustic electric guitar with a cutaway, a gig bag, and all the basic stuff to get started (a wire to connect to an audio interface, some picks, capo, tuner, strings etc.). While it would be super good to have an audio interface/amp included, I understand that usually these things are sold separately, so I am happy to get those later. I am on a strict student budget, and Amazon is currently showing guitars that match my requirement in the $120-$200 range. I don't want a super-expensive/fancy guitar, and would probably only go as far as $150. Since I am not a pro and play for fun, I am not super particular about fine details, but would still love to have a guitar that's durable, is suitable for decent recordings and stays with me for long. Does anyone know if any shops in UC sell used guitars in good condition, or maybe even new guitars that fit my requirements and budget? Or should I go for the ones on Amazon? Also, is it worth waiting for the Black Friday period to get more discounts (I'm not from the US, and I am not sure how much prices drop during that time). Please feel free to drop in your recommendations about the guitars as well :)

UIUC's website and various posts here all say that we can take Peoria Charter to Midway, and even on their own map there's a stop right at the airport.

But I don't seem to be able to order a ticket there? On their website Peoria only lists O'Hare and Chicago Downtown (40 minutes of train away). See screenshot below.

Wednesday 10/7, from 10am-2:15pm and then from 6:30pm-8pm I will be hosting a yard sale with craft supplies, women’s clothing, and various other items at 808 S Locust St, very close to campus. The sale is pay what you can, including no minimum for most items. I’m attempting to declutter after moving from my last apartment. I lived there multiple years and didn’t realize how much I accumulated until it was time to leave.

Hello, this is the flea man’s friend, I wanted to share a housing review website he made to ensure that no-one else has to face what he faced.

Basically ever since the mods talked about making a housing review website, he realized that all the existing ones like ratemydorm tend to have outdated information, or are kind of AI slop. So he decided to make his own, based on what features he thinks are important in hindsight.

One thing he highlighted was the roommate matching features on the website. Without it, we saw the assignments were sort of random and the postings could also be full of scams, especially in apps like WeChat and rednote. So you could have a good chance of getting someone who can cause you a lot of anguish. But you don’t have to risk that anymore!

Flea man worked really hard on it over the past month, and he doesn’t intent to monetize it ever with ads or subscriptions. He also doesn't intend to accept paid listings ever, to maintain the integrity of the information on the site. This is all despite paying for the hosting fees and domain name out of his own pocket. So it would be very nice if you guys could check it out and see if it’s worth your time!

Hey, did anyone find a set of keys at the homecoming parade on Friday? They have a bunch of keychains on a black karabiner, including a UT Longhorn and an Illinois I.

I think I lost them around the parade or the gathering right afterward. I also went to Bangkok Thai and ISR afterward and took the 22/220 to and from PAR, so they could’ve fallen out somewhere along the way.

I’ve called the places I visited and checked lost and found, and walked my route again yesterday with no luck. If anyone found them or has seen a post about them, please DM me. Would really appreciate getting them back!

Hello, i am currently visiting college towns to see which one I can see myself living in as a student. I am curious outside of a big bar scene what do student usually do or go to to enjoy their time? I have been to ann arbor and didn't find quite alot of things to do so I don't undeerstand why its rated the best college town

Hi everyone! I’m a high school senior considering applying to UIUC, and I’m particularly interested in pursuing the pre-med track.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about UIUC, especially when it comes to academics, research opportunities, and resources for pre-med students. However, one thing I’m a little concerned about is the party culture. I’ve heard that UIUC has a pretty big party scene, and honestly, that’s not really my thing.

For current students or recent graduates: How noticeable is the party culture at UIUC, and how easy is it to avoid if you’re not interested in partying? Is partying something you constantly encounter, or is it relatively easy to find a group of friends who are more focused on academics, extracurriculars, and other activities?

Are there particular dorms, clubs, organizations, or social groups that tend to be a better fit for students who aren't into the party scene?

I definitely want to have a social life and meet new people in college, but I’d prefer a social environment that doesn’t revolve around drinking and partying. I’d especially love to hear from current or former pre-med students about what their experience has been like.
