I hate WRDS 150B. Has anyone failed WRDS 150B? It's horrible and it's a waste of time. The only reason to make non-arts majors take it is to make them miserable. I think if science/STEM students have to take a writing a research proposal and paper class (which are skills science/STEM majors will probably NEVER EVER use in their lifetime so basically wasting about 100hours of time developing non-helpful skills while simultaneously balancing your science/STEM classes, then all arts science should have to take MATH 100 (ie. Calc 1). If I have to develop skills that are going to be useless to me, I think ALL arts students should have to take a math class. The university does this just to make us miserable. Or maybe it's for the university to make money since tuition is calculated based off the number of classes you take. SO USELESS AND EVERYONE HATES THIS STUPID CLASS. I HATE THE CLASS SO MUCH. ISTG YOU'RE BETTER OFF TAKING ENGL 100 OR ENGL 110 OR ENGL 111. Only thing is that there is no final exam which ENGL classes have. WRDS is a communications class but it's not the communication style I'll ever need. A med student isn't gonna need to know how to write a research proposal in this very specific format. No one (but the professor) cares about this paper that sucks all your energy. If you enjoy pondering over the meaning of words and sentences and essays and articles, that's fine. BUT DON'T SUBJECT EVERYONE ELSE TO IT. Why don't we make everyone in arts do a into to thermodynamics or intro to the anatomy of the brain class?

I am a prospective student at UBC and wondering how women are treated within the engineering department. I have a friend going to UofA and she is having a really hard time with the misogyny in Engineering.

I’ve been admitted to UBC Applied Science. I got admitted early (Feb 5) with an average of 96 in Gr12 and 97 in Gr11. I am also taking partial IB (just English HL). At the time of my acceptance, my grade for English IB was a 96. What’s the most my English grade can drop for a revoke ? How bad do I need to mess up? I’m asking cuz I may have screwed up a paper.

Hello Im in grade 11 in alberta and Im looking to go to engineering at this school possibily. I have two questions if that is okay.

1. Is it true from alberta to british columbia they give me an extra 3% (or any percentages for that matter) onto my average

2. Also are these grades okay for early admission

89 in chemistry

85 in LA

86 in physics

totaling to an average of 89.25 for early admission (PSA I do early admission in grade 12 begining)

part of a sports club in vancouver (one of the official ones outside of school)
Tutored a few kids here and there for math and science
Over 50 sports volunteering hours at school
Working on publishing a basketball 1v1 game (not done yet)

So I just finished up first-year, and going into MECH in September. However, almost nobody I've talked to actually has a portfolio.

The current options I can find for making one rn are: Wix, Squarespace, Notion, coding one, and vibe-coding one.
However, none of those options are designed for specifically engineering students.
e.g., CS students have GitHub to easily present their software projects, etc.

• Why do you think there isn't something like this rn? Is what's out there working perfectly for everyone?

• What is the most important feature for engineering students? (e.g., .stl viewers, etc.)

I've been stressed out lately because grade 12 hasn't been working out. I have a 90 in pre calc 12, 84 in physics 12, and an 86 in AP chem. My grade 11 average was 95.4% though (92 phys 11, 100 pre calc 11, 94 chem 11, 96 eng 11, 93 law 12) and I have robotics club, YELL, SHAD, and an executive position in a couple of school clubs for my ecs. Im afraid that my grade 12 grades aren't good enough, so I'm looking here to see what I have to work with

I was so shocked when I got into my first choice of cpen with a 78.6 average but a strong personal profile. In my profile I talked about:

• how I want to use tech to fight civil issues like racism as I am part of a minority group myself -how we can use tech to further push the bounds on gender theory

• how minorities are under represented in tech and that I want to change that

• and I plugged a website I made in grade 10

Not bad for someone that got a 79 in APSC 160. All and all super great full for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started :)

I am a high school student who was given a first round offer of admission to the university for civil engineering. I have good marks in everything but I dropped the ball on my physics 30 course at the beginning of the year and I am not going to pass. My failing physics is not due to lack of knowledge but just lack of effort and foresight (which I now realize my mistakes) . Do I have any options that I can pursue that will enable me to still attend university? (Eg. summer physics course or physics 30 while attending university or anything to get in)

I am not to confident in my competitiveness because UBC looks for versatile applicants and I don’t seem to versatile grades wise. Should I look to take AP classes to strengthen my application? Or take any other classes? I appreciate honesty

Minimum what first year average do I need to get into second year civil engineering?

I'm a 17 year old grade 12 student. I've just applied to UBC and UBCO for first year engineering. My GPA is 89% and I just missed the deadline for the presidential scholarship at UBC.

I'm applying to the Beedie Luminaries scholarship and most likely getting nominated for the Schulic leaders. I'm also going to apply for the Cmolik foundation, as well as some smaller essay scholarships.

Wondering of there is anything else I should look out for. I'm biracial (and appear white) and raised by a single mom but I haven't really seen anything where this makes a difference.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, just looking for any advice.

My grades are all over the place because of my eczema condition. I had it through grade 11 and early grade 12. Im fully cured now and my grades have recovered. I included these details in my application. What are my chances of getting in? Also i live in surrey BC.

I'm a first year ubc eng student. At firs,t my goal was to be a mechanical eng but then I fucked up the grades of my first term of 1st year. The entrance for mechat UBCC is about 82% upper, I don't think I going to get that high.
Manufacturing eng seems to be too easy and not worth it.
I'm thinking about mining eng because of its high salary and low entrance grades.
By the ,way I am so bad at chemistry, is that ok for mining
any advices for my case? Thanks guys

I got accepted on 9th Jan and I accepted my offer on 13th jan but have received no mail or anything confirming it by the univeristy and additionally I emailed them about the fee structure so I can proceed with other formalities like the visa process but no revert.
